I remember as a small child hearing many heroic stories about this or that person getting home-runs, all kinds of base hits etc. In its heyday various local textile mills sponsored their own teams and a league was formed. Sadly the remains of this once great baseball field of honor is now just another relic of the past.

There are no regular airports nearby, no electrical transmission lines, no radio towers. It's pretty much the edge of civilization. The gates to the park are very securely locked and the rules of the airfield are posted. Pretty much, no trespassing and anyone who intends to fly their aircraft here must be a member in the Academy of Model Aeronautics or a similar organization. I had spotted one of these parks when I was in Florida a couple of months ago and was hoping that it might be open. Sometimes you get knuckleheads that mess it up for the rest of us but staff will sit them out and take care of it for you. Just make sure to communicate to the refs (look for safety vests). There is a small gear shop and they now have cold drinks and snacks inside too. You can also rent your gear to try it out before you commit to the hobby. They do birthday parties too. Photogenic but far from phenomenal, Arrow loopers are more or less a one and done for me. I can't…read morehold it against Carolina Cyclone that it topped Corkscrew's three inversions with what was then a world breaking four back in the day as Corkscrew ain't too much fun anymore and neither is this. And with these coasters more isn't always such a great thing. Still, I can't help but give these old school throwbacks a spin when I see em. Carolina Cyclone gets points for going over the midway, too, just like Cedar Point's Corkscrew. (Can you tell I grew up going to Cedar Point?) Not all of these Arrow loopers go over the Midway (tssk tssk Valleyfair and Michigan's Adventure) and it is such a cool added element. With a name like Cyclone and its aforementioned age it's probably no surprise to hear this coaster is a bit bumpy. Really only the two teardrop inversions are the somewhat uncomfortable parts of this ride for me but there was a whole peanut gallery of complainants on my train. I tipped the two gals behind me on my method of holding my head slightly forward from the headrest on the brake run as they pissed and moaned about the achiness they felt but of course it was a moot point by then as it didn't sound like they were planning a reride. I don't know where all the vocal critics were on Vortex. It's far worse than Carolina Cyclone. To me this coaster is clunky but mostly harmless- but also really not all that fun. If a company figures out how to replicate this classic look but make it a smoother and more thrilling modern coaster they'd probably make out like bandits going around and replacing these museum pieces.

I had the opportunity to play the course as an invited guest in a tournament. I was honestly blown…read moreaway by the facilities, the member hospitality, and most importantly... the golf. The course is a fantastic layout, the greens are challenging but fair, and the whole day was the most fun day of golf I have had in years. The clubhouse was recently updated and is gorgeous both inside and out. I highly recommend this hidden gem for its lack of pretension and its top notch golf.
