I was at the northwestern - ohio state game this past Wednesday and I have to say I came away impressed. The first thing that impressed me was how many employees were there to help with any questions. Also some other impressive stuff is the comfortable seating where ever you sit in the arena. Also plenty of clean bathrooms and places to get affordable priced food. The only complaint i have is as you get closer to the court the worse the WiFi signal gets. But over all this is a great place to watch basketball.

The new remodeled Welsh-Ryan arena was opened last year for the 2018-19 season. It's all new and modern, with a friendly accommodating staff. Docked one star because this place is way too small to be a Big 10 arena.

Just fantastic. It has the feel of a theatre, not a gym. Great sightlines. Seats are comfortable. 1st class!! Concessions are completely upgraded. A wonderful sports venue for Northwestern.

As many have stated I would liken Welsh Ryan more of a gymnasium over an arena/stadium. Which is a good thing imo. I t's a small school, by comparison, and this place seems to fit well with that. Big stadiums/arenas have their place, and they are great in their own way but there is just something about a throw back/High School/Hoosiers type of environment. That said, I believe they are renovating/building a new arena so this review will be rendered irrelevant very soon. We came for a Conference match-up with Minnesota and the place was packed and rocking. We adults had about Six 8-12 yr. old boys in tow and they were beyond excited and were treated to a great game. I've taken my 9 yr. old to Hawks/Bulls/Cubs/Sox games and it's always fun, but i've also taken him to my old HS (football/basketball) games and he's equally pumped. For that, this place completely works and priced right. Check it out, it is strictly no frills, all about the game, which i love.

I was here to cover the Ohio State basketball game and it's the first time I was in it with the new renovations and they nailed it! They did a great job, I love it! I even wrote an article about it. I'm very impressed. You can check out my article at Midwestsportsnetwork.com

We were told a shuttle bus would take us to the stadium from the Central Station Purple Line. Even after being picked up and dropped off, it was a 5-8 minute walk to the stadium. There was signage to show us where to go, otherwise we just followed people around us. The directions are to get off at Noyes and walk 20 minutes. I wonder if shuttles will be available during the regular season. Of course the residential/campus areas were swamped with cars so walking is probably better. We got through security no problem, no hassles, but they should have more gates and detectors if they are going to have games here! There were food trucks and booths with alcohol, merch tents, Porto Potties (heck no!) and tents selling food that was of course overpriced. It was a very nice day, cloudy with sun and dry; I can IMAGINE what it's like when it rains! NO indoor spaces to buy food, except a couple of huge tents? I was expecting a Soldier Field/Wrigley field structure where one can move to seats and stay inside but really stacked bleachers. The food trucks were ok but food was not super hot. The field had timers and score boards but not facing south, where we sat. We had to crane to see the score. There should be scoreboards on all sides. We found some indoor restrooms at half time thank goodness, and they were clean. Instead of going back to the seats we walked around and bought more concessions in the patio area. A medical company was giving away prizes, and we were able to see the scores on a big tv (Stars won!) plus there was a play area for kids. The lake view was very nice, I'm glad the Stars are pushing the lakefront attribute, but I can't say I would look forward to coming here regularly, esp as the weather becomes very hot or very cold, as there is no protection from the elements.

Everything ran smoothly (again keeping a temporary situation in mind) and they still ran a good concessions business. I had a spectacular NU football experience. A highlight was the concessions. For 2017 season they have put in a lot of effort toward revamping the concession department and it shows! When entering there is a trail of large cookie decals on the floor leading to the dessert stand. An adorable idea! They have brownie & cookie ice cream sundaes served in a helmet and Wildcat Float. You can either order the float with grape soda thats symbolic to their colors or traditional root beer. I had traditional and it was delicious. They also give you the left over can of soda. $5 a float. We also tried the smore. It comes pre packaged and they offer to open it, then top it with whipped cream. A confusing $7 for the smore it was very costly and I would skip this. Next, they have a very inciting and impressive candy cart stocked with everything!! What jumped out to me were the gourmet candies such as: white chocolate covered rice crispy pops with the logo printed on the front, chocolate covered pretzels, waffle cones filled with chocolate candy mix, the list goes on and all wrapped in cellophane & tied with a purple bow. This cart is literal Eye Candy! Now for the burger lovers. In the 100 level section there are several opened faced grills where flames are flying high and the smell is tantalizing! I really wish I saved my appetite bc everything looked ridiculously good. For every home game they will be serving one specialty item. To name a few: BLT Avocado Angus Burger, Chili Cheese Dog, Chicken Nachos and a Bacon DONUT Burger! They didn't only achieve at concessions, they OVERachieved! Another amenity I enjoyed was the seat back rental. You can rent plush cushions for $10 and they really come in handy! I should also mention to check out Wildcat Alley that opens at 3:30pm for night games. This is NU's free tailgate party where you can meet the team & cheerleaders, play games, see the marching band perform as well as other performances, and try food trucks! Having been a post bach student at Northwestern, my blood is ILLINI. I didn't think I could be this enthusiastic for NU but, credit is defiantly due! Cats threw down!

The stadium is older than your average stadium and it has not been well maintained. They have a very odd setup for concessions. It feels like your at monster truck show : ) Everything is cashless. Food is nothing to write home about. You will typically find as many visiting team fans as Nwstrn fans. Band is not up to Big Ten standards. One thing I can say is that it's pretty easy to park in downtown Evanston and catch a free bus to the game. Highly recommended. If you've never been to a game at Ryan Field, expect it to be windy. RF is located very near to Lake Michigan and you can get a lot of lake effect wind. And if you're planning to be in downtown Evanston, don't forget to stop and get a burger at Bat 17 (great pregame meal!)

This was the first time my 6.5 year old son tried it and he was able to use a skate assistant sled. Unfortunately, the usage time is limited for others to use as well. I think we had an hour in the room and another hour on the rink. Not bad, but we felt rushed in the room eating & cake. Then, at the ice rink they had FOUR skate assistant sleds for us to use. Now, it's a party with about 20 kids, most of whom haven't skated before. So 'sharing' the sled was an issue. I asked someone that worked there if we could borrow more (because I know that had more & they weren't being used on the other side), but she said we are only allowed 4. Boo!

But, the perk here is that they don't charge more for non-residents to skate, so if you're bringing non-local friends, they won't have to pay more than you (unlike Evanston and other skating rinks). I do wish that they had some sort of pass card though like Evanston and Wilmette rinks both offer. Their website is a bit dated and confusing, but I sent them a message on Facebook to confirm their public skate hours and they got back to me within minutes, which was nice. They also have skate sharpening, which I definitely need before I try skating again (but haven't used that service yet). The rink itself is nice. It wasn't too crowded when I went during the week a week before Christmas, and the skaters I did meet were friendly. The woman at the desk was helpful as well. I'll definitely come back.

I had my high school graduation here and it wasnt the most appealing of venues at the time. Most recently, Loylola has made several improvements and renovations across the Lake Shore campus. Definitely improved and quite beautiful for a "commuter" school. This arena is one of the greatest changes to the campus. Similar to other college basketball courts, the seats are right on top of the floor so you have a good seat wherever you are. The floor is beautiful in the maroon and gold. It has a good student section area that is right behind the Courtside seats. They have updated their big screens and monitors which are amazing for a Missouri Valley Conference school. They have bench seating as well as regular seats as well and it is comfortable compared to other places. Food in the stadium is fairly priced here with the typical nachos, hot dogs, and pizza. They do sell beer now at the arena as well. Overall it is a great arena that is always packed with loyal Loyola students and alumni on game day.
