So here is my updated review. As far as staff, everybody was very cordial, polite, and showed up on time. Denise specifically had a great vision for what she wanted to do. That was appreciated. We were having our pantry and kitchen reorganized because we just have so much stuff and it made it very difficult to have any somewhat of organization. Denise, another staff member showed up at 9 AM to get started. Forgive me my mind is fried I forgot her name. Things started slow, which is understandable because there needs to be some two-way communication on how things are going to be and how we wanted it to go. Once things got going, we took a step back and let them do their thing. There was a bit of miscommunication on how things were specifically being charged per hour. We had an understanding in our estimate that 10 hours at $100 an hour was what we were budgeting for. $1000. As things progressed, I asked a question regarding how late they were staying since things seem like they were moving a little slow. I was told they were working from 9 AM to 2 PM which is five hours. So the miscommunication was that I was being quoted 10 hours With five hours for each person coming. That's where there was a miscommunication. I do not believe it was on purpose. I think it was just one of those things that wasn't clearly discussed. I can take partial blame for not asking the question, but I made an assumption. The girls stayed an extra two hours to try to finish the pantry. So the kitchen portion was not even addressed. And reach out to the boss Cathy, I explained where there was some confusion. Once it was explained that we were essentially paying $200 an hour for two people to be here we quickly hit our budget limit, which did not allow for a secondary follow up for the kitchen. The girls did their best to get the pantry finished as possible. There were many items that were still left out that we were told we could now figure out where those could go. The pantry is re-organized much better than it was before absolutely. Was it a $12-$1300 worth job? No based on many other estimates we had received this was the highest we had had. But based on recommendations we wanted to go with a group that had a background that seemed to have a strong foundation in this area. This is not personal, Cathy, Denise, and everyone else were spectacular people and I do not believe that there was the slightest intent for the miscommunication on cost. Again, the pantry looks much better than it did before, but there was also a bit of unutilized space considering so many things were left out. That seemed to come from the fact that Denise needed to rework things that the second staff member had done prior. As stated before, Denise seem to have a better vision and honestly may have done a better job on her own. Communication with Cathy is fine. She did try to address the issue by giving us a slight break on how we were paying, but I did make it clear. We definitely could not afford a follow up at what was being charged. My recommendation is this. If you're looking for someone to do a house move or to deal with a hoarding situation or an overloaded garage where you just need a ton of things moved out, boxed up and gotten rid of. They are the perfect solution. If you're looking for someone to re-organize kitchen cabinets, drawers pantry space , this might not be the best choice due to cost alone. They appear to be a fantastic company that does show empathy and care but I think due to the cost loan we would not be able to utilize them again. If you're on a budget, you may have to look elsewhere. Again, if you were doing a major move or you need to clean out the top overloaded area to get things moved out and gotten rid of. They are definitely the ones you want to call. For future in-house re-organization we would have to go with a different option that's more affordable within a budget. $100 an hour per person is just a bit much for the average homeowner. I do think Cathy for her communication and attempts to make things right. Most businesses won't even bother with that. She showed integrity. Again I believe there was just a unclear miscommunication regarding the cost. Having multiple staff on site at the same time. Question apparently I should have asked, but just did not think too. I'm giving them four stars based on the fact that I think they definitely meant well and Denise really did do exceptional work in the time she had especially considered. It took a while to finally admit I needed help but both Cathy and Carolyn were so nice and I never felt uncomfortable about my messy (!) house! Our family suffers from clutter. Patty and Laura were phenomenal at helping us edit out stuff in a painless way. I wasn't forced to get rid of anything but their approach at getting me to realize I didn't need multiples of an item or need to live with clutter so I wanted to get rid of stuff on my own. I really went into this appointment with some anxiety but within the first hour, I was happy, I was editing some areas without help. Some people have the gift to edit. I do not. I've been making quilts and pillowcases for 24 years and have amassed a large amount of fabric, including yardage and smaller pieces - some scraps and some I bought but never used (and probably never will). However, I'm not very good at organization and the mess has been frustrating me. I would trip over piles of fabric and bins trying to find what I'm looking for. Since becoming a first time mom, I haven't been able to keep up with the house and I felt overwhelmed with clutter. This company helped my mom pack her home a couple months back. She's been disabled and is still working on unpacking boxes in her new home. There's been at least $1000 in damaged items or things missing that she KNOWS should be here. The move is definitely not why things were broken. The way they were packed was insufficient for the materials (i.e. many glass things were cracked/shattered and now unusable). When we tried to get in touch with Cathy, we were told that she no longer lives in California and we could not talk to her. Definitely not recommended. read more

I sent in a request for a quote and called them to follow up and spoke to Cathy Bates. I specified my need for help and that it was disability and hoarding related and thought since their website specifies they are sensitive and understanding of special needs I'd at least get some helpful advice or a reference to someone who could help since I thought I might be too far away. Instead I was told they don't help in my area and have no suggestions besides just to just ask a friend or try craigslist. 1) If just asking friends for help would cut it why would I need get expensive help from professionals? 2) Telling a disabled person to try craigslist for a personal organizer who comes to your home and goes through your stuff is at the very least irrresponsible and possibly dangerous and I can't believe a professional would ever suggest such a thing. I have been faced with managing two downsizing mover for my 90+ year old mother in the past two years, and each time their planning, guidance, and hands on labor almost made it a stress free experience for me. I want to commend Cathy Bates and Practical Solutions for the job they did - as well as those they referred to me and to a friend. The team of three ladies that Cathy provided to pack were professional, quick, efficient and friendly (I'm so sorry that I cannot recall their names). The "Cowboy Movers" were outstanding both loading and unloading the PODS unit, even with my requests to pack my master bedroom things last so I could get to them first when the MB was done (the contractor completed my MB first so that it became my "apartment" during construction - so I wanted/needed easy access to those things). They did a great job at my friend's, too. Again, efficient, practiced and fast, while remaining friendly and business-like. I can't recall if Cathy recommended the "PODS" team, but they delivered the container quickly and removed it quickly with no issues. My friend also had a team of two guys who hauled away her extra items and the remains of the move (boxes, packing stuff, old garage items, etc) and they did a great job (in 102 degree heat nonetheless!). I may use them in the future - when I actually clean out my garage (not!). Overall, everyone who originated with Cathy that was involved - packers, movers, storage team, haulers - were clearly "experts" in their respective fields. They not only were dependable, efficient and effective, but they inspired confidence and made the overall experience less stressful. I've been successfully using the services of Practical Solutions for many years to organize the home of my elderly parents, which had become a huge problem in a house that had accumulated more than 40 years of clutter. Before starting the organizing, I was very stressed and depressed about the size of the job and the amount of work that would be involved, since I knew that there was no easy or quick solution because my parents didn't want to simply get rid of everything. To say that the task was daunting would be a massive understatement, since it involved going through rooms filled with thousands of items that needed to be sorted out individually. It was also too big of a job to do all at once for my parents, since making decisions about what stays or goes was always a problem for them, so I arranged a regular weekly organizing visit so that the process didn't become overwhelming. Although this isn't the fastest method to organize, it's what I knew was necessary to eventually get the process done right without excessive stress. After we discovered a family member was in desperate need of our help, my wife and I went into full "research mode" to find out how to even begin.
