Apparently, that was too much to ask. Instead, I was subjected to a mandatory tour that focused heavily on glutes and cardio. As a woman who was primarily interested in upper-body training, I found it incredibly patronizing to have someone seemingly assume what I wanted to work out based on my gender. I came to see the equipment, not to be mansplained to about how I should exercise. After finally getting through the tour, Russ, the manager, tried to sit me down to discuss purchasing a membership. Mind you, I had ALREADY made it clear that I was only interested in a seven-day pass. Apparently, "I'm not interested in a membership" doesn't translate very well here. And don't even get me started on their guest policies. I previously tried visiting with a friend using a guest pass, only to be turned away because the Santa Barbara location is supposedly a "premier" gym with different rules than other EōS locations. Apparently, being "premier" means fewer perks and more restrictions. The entire experience felt less like a gym welcoming potential members and more like a sales operation determined to squeeze a membership out of anyone who walks through the door. And judging by the other reviews describing how difficult it is to cancel a membership, I'm incredibly glad I didn't sign up. If getting a simple trial pass is this much of a hassle, I can only imagine what trying to leave would be like. My advice? Save yourself the headache and take your money somewhere that actually respects its customers!
