A year ago, I finally told my doctor that I'd been experiencing at least mild depression and anger…read moremanagement issues for years. My father and grandfather tended toward depression, and I assumed that my negative thoughts and angry reactions were just the way my mind worked. The doctor suggested that I might benefit from counselling, specifically Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT). Fortunately, Diane Doll at Hinsdale Professional Associates was available to help me. Working with Diane over the last year or so, I have come to understand that I had it backwards: my thoughts and reactions were not the product of an inborn and unchangeable negative mindset. Rather, my negative way of reacting to people and the world largely created the negative mindset. Under Diane's guidance, I'm making good progress in how I approach and react to people and events. I feel happier, less angry and more at ease with myself and others. Diane is obviously knowledgeable and experienced in the science of psychology, and was able to suggest great resources that I found helpful. Her approach is supportive, encouraging and compassionate. Our sessions are conversations in which she takes the role of a coach or really good friend who doesn't tell me what to do or think, but rather helps me to discover a path consistent with the person I want to be. If you're reading this, you may be looking for help to make changes in your life and hoping that change is possible. If you are, and if you get a chance to work with Diane, you should do it.

Unfortunately, an "everything is 50% your fault" mentality is very strong and the Christian bias of valuing marriage over an individual's wellbeing is likely at play. I eventually quit therapy and quit my marriage and am doing much better, though the grief of the trauma from my marriage therapy is still with me. I recommend Relational Life Therapy - they will take sides and defend victims. My individual therapist is also here- and she is wonderful. IFS and EMDR has really provided breakthrough and emotional freedom from deep-seated early childhood traumas.

This felt more like I was a judge on shark tank than it did a discussion about helping our child…read more The only topics I've heard about is that they're "cash only" and that they have a "fellowship" so any other provider will pale in comparison. When I explained the $5.5k evaluation fee is unaffordable and I'd look for providers that take insurance they had the gaul to tell me how they too had a hard time with such expenses for their own children and it was worth it. Guess they forgot that they mentioned living in Hinsdale for over two decades. A decidedly NOT lower income neighborhood. The 5 page evaluation form consisted of about half a page on what the evaluation entails, 1.5 pages on billing, 2.5 pretty much saying how "awesome" they are, and a half page about Danielle (who switched from animal medicine to pediatrics!?).

We waited a month and a half to have an evaluation done for my son and they cancelled because I…read moreexpressed to them that their communication was poor and created confusion on our end, including the school district that set this up. They only communicate vial email, and they don't have enough staff to handle patients. They brag as if being this small is a good thing.. in reality, it caused much confusion for my family and the school district that helped set up our eval. Find another provider for this service. During the last month and a half, their communication has been spotty at best. Then they cancel because of this. She doesn't care about patients. They canceled because they cannot handle any criticism and left us a month and a half behind when it comes to getting help with no concern for my child.

He recommended TMS as nothing really helped me and I was on a lot of medications. TMS was a definite commitment but I haven't felt this good in the last 35 years!
