I visited this place in search of a primary doctor after moving across the country. They took my insurance, I paid the copay, but Dr. Nance was not a good fit for me. I won't go into the details, but to summarize, she made me uncomfortable. Now, nearly a year after I had seen them last, they send me a bill for around $250. These services were long paid for through my insurance and the copay, and I was not notified that I owed any more. All payments had previously been resolved. Why are they sending an email stating that I have a balance, and why are they not mailing me a bill or calling to inform me of the balance? I will give them a call soon to figure out the rest, but this is highly unprofessional. It just reinforces my decision to not continue dealing with them. I will update the review based on the outcome of the call. Edit: It took them about a year to submit the bill, and they office representative could not give me a clear and concise answer as to why I owe, despite it being previously covered. She is blaming the insurance, but the insurance had already covered the payment over about a year ago. I am no longer on the insurance that I had last year, so if they tried to charge me again, it may reflect that I owe, but why wait so long to charge? I am waiting for the office manager to call me. This is unethical and a shady practice. They will not be getting anymore money from me. This bill may even have to go into collections. Final Edit as of Dec 2025: Never received a call back or any form of communication (besides another automated email notice to remind me of the bill). Double checked with my prior insurance, and it turns out they submitted their claim very late (as stated previously), but the insurance notes that their contract states they cannot bill the patient as well, since they submitted everything late. So they are breaching their contract with the previous insurance by billing me. Attached is proof of the statement by insurance, "THIS CLAIM WAS NOT RECEIVED ON TIME SO WE CANNOT PAY THE CLAIM. Dr.Nance made me feel EXTREMELY uncomfortable asking me multiple times to drop my pants 5 minutes into the visit. (No gown,no preparation as to this occurring.) It felt very, very awkward and wrong and I've seen other reviews of past patients saying the same. When told about a family history of substance use, she went on a 10 minute story about her alcoholic ex-husband. She told me she's proud of her 25 year old daughter who "pre-games (gets drunk) in the parking lot" before she goes to raves in LA, uses molly (ecstasy),and is the designated driver for her friends after. She touted her Princeton education and all her educated friends while trying to up-sell me on tons of expensive self help work she offers. I felt like I was being sold a used car! It took the staffer a long time to find someone that could draw my blood.This meant that I sat in a room directly next to a patient room and heard everything private being shared. The patient told the doctor the plethora of anxiety med.s she was taking, how her father had referred her, how worried she was about her health/the safety of other doctors etc. The only thing I came for was surgical clearance/bloodwork and her staff sent me/my provider NEITHER. They literally sent me/my provider the exact same clearance form my provider gave me, zero changes. No bloodwork, no medical review, not even a doctor signature and this was after TWO failed fax attempts and TWO failed email attempts! read more

Based on my knowledge of Dr. Nance' committment to self-improvement, and developing greater levels of self-awareness, as a phtsician and human, I feel that she warrants highest levels of recognition I can provide as an attendee at Wellessence, rather than a patient. Think they care about your well-being and health? Think again. I struggle with chronic migraines and am completely healthy otherwise. Called Wednesday to get my prescription refilled, no answer left a message, emailed and called Thursday, no answer. Got a call back Friday as I'm packing to leave town shaming me for not coming in for my annual (the only reason I would be to ask for my prescription). Got a second call Friday after I left town saying I can only get my prescription if I come in in person. I asked if I could do video visit- she said no. I asked if I could get one pill and book an appointment for next week, got a "sorry you're out of luck". Healthcare is hard enough to navigate as it is. If I get a migraine, I have stroke symptoms and need to go to ER. They'd rather me risk that than refill my prescription. See ya never Dr Nance - I hope you and your front desk ladies are better to your other patients. read more

Dr. Nance is great! She is very smart and willing to try alternative treatments. My only beef is that her technician doesn't correctly convert (or read the chart) from centimeters to inches. In fact, her technician (my term) showed that I was 3 inches shorter than what I really am which was confirmed by Northwest Community's Breast Imaging Center. read more

Very disappointed. To begin with I met a Doctor back in November who gave me her card for this practice. She said they focus on weight management. I need to lose weight so I called for an appointment. The receptionist failed to mention that said doctor has left and it is now run by another doctor. How can you fail to mention that the doctor you are requesting to see no longer works there. I feel like I was duped, lied to and disrespected. Their idea of weight management is to sell you weight loss shakes - yup liquid diet. All conviently located right at the reception desk. When I said i couldn't do that kind of thing I was given a carb/calorie count for the day. No meal plans, no nutritionist. Come back in a month to see how you're doing. STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE!!! They are liars, cheats and snakes when it comes to over billing for services and duplicate billing practices. After multiple phone calls in 2017, 2018 and 2019, and many messages left on voicemail-unanswered and messages left with office staff, calls never returned, that it was not until they sent me to collections in 2020 did they finally respond and provide me with the billing information I need to reconcile my account. Yes they have a so called web portal, but the web portal does not provide the detailed information necessary for reconciling to my receipts and office visit notes. And once you search on the web portal the message you get is...please call the office for detailed information. Get the run around. On March 27, 2020 I sent them the monies owed, but now I again have been sent back to collections for the same amount. My words of wisdom...STAY AWAY FROM THIS PRACTICE unless you have money to burn and want to be charged twice for the same services. read more

Dr. Nance and her staff are inviting, friendly and down to earth. You are not talking to a call center representative when you call the office, which is a huge plus and Dr. Nance reads the messages sent through her online portal. Most importantly, Dr. Nance and her LPN, Kathy, listen and take time to talk about best options, being realistic about life, its challenges and its happy moments. Dr. Nance very professional and thorough on your first visit. So busy the following year, 2019, I made an appointment with the NP. Had a full yearly physical with again total blood work. Blood was sent to True Health Diagnostics. BCBS did not cover all test done by the corrupt, bankrupt, crooked co.pany that Dr. Nance did business with. I recently moved to Schaumburg area and looked for a new primary care doctor, came across Dr. nance, made an appointment for my yearly physical which was paid at 100% through my BCBS, after a very poor visit with her I received a bill for almost $300, called my insurance, was told she charged me an extra office visit just for giving me a doctors name as a referral, I wished she could have giving me a heads up that she would be charging me for it, I would have simply searched and found a specialist myself, also was told to come back for a follow up to get my results which should have been part of the original physical but yet was charged again, I will never go back to her, she has no clue how to be a doctor just charge her patients anyway she can!!! read more

I was referred to Dr. Nance by another doctor. I was super excited to find out about their weight loss program. I was very disappointed when I arrived at the office. It's all about the money ... you pay first, prior to your visit, whether they take your insurance or not. You pay for the Dr.'s consultation, which is "information overload." Then blood work was recommended and I went from one room to another. It was way to much! I was then told that this is a shake diet, only 800 calories per day. I agreed to a second appointment where my blood results would be reviewed with me, you had to pay for that as well. Once reviewed, then I was told to try the shake diet for a week and to think of it as "reboot" of my system ... I was like "huh?" I bought the shakes and regret that I did. I called them back to cancel future appointments as I found the shakes and health bars, all on Amazon! That's not the point, the point is that you do not feel "one on one," rather, it's an "assembly line" feeling ... next .... next. I do not recommend this place. Be careful with this practice. Today 7.1.2019, I received a bill from them for 3.26.2016...yes, you are reading this correctly. While most people would be taken aback by something like this, I was not as I keep very good records. According to my records, and I have the credit card receipt to prove it, I paid this bill on the exact date (3.26.2016) for the exact amount they are trying to collect from me today 7.1.2019. Just a heads up because if you do not keep good records or have a receipt file, they will come back to you 3 1/2 years later to collect and you just might not have the documentation to backup you paid. Kara Nance and her office staff were very nice to me during the visit. The office is nice, and I didn't have to wait long. There is a convenient optional online patient portal, where you can obtain test results, and even ask the doctor questions, and she is nice enough to answer them herself. In order for you to get the most out of having Dr. Nance as a doctor, it is important first that you understand what kind of doctor office this is so you can use her services to your advantage. This is a doctor who specializes in (1) calorie counseling, when being overweight is due to calorie over-consumption only, but not from hormone problems or other medical problems, and (2) diabetes management or specialized insulin level problems. They do run standard CBC & Chemistry labs, do pap smears, and offer vaccinations. However, this is not a primary care doctor (other than for perfectly healthy people who never have any health questions), and this is not a gynecology doctor. If you ask non-calorie related primary care or gynecology/women's health questions, they will not try to answer or address those questions, and instead they will advise you to see another doctor in that area like she did to me. read more

A painful sore throat rendered this appointment that I booked at 1AM. When I entered, it seemed this place wasn't appropriate to address my needs as they seem to focus more on weight management and nutrition. Should've done more research before booking. Greeted by a sweet receptionist. Ushered to a room to check vitals by the nurse. Briefly stepped back outside to get my height and returned to the room where we began reviewing my social history as I patiently wait for her to close the door. She asked about past medical procedures, door wide open and zero eye contact. Asked about my mom's medical history, door still open and her face still glued to the screen. Asked if my dad's still alive. At that point, I asked her to shut the door and she apologized. Get me out of here. Was then brought to the exam room. The doctor came in saying the NP would work with me and she'd consult with her later (when I specifically booked with the MD). The NP seemed to second guess herself when I asked questions and needed clarification. Overall, quite disappointed and unfortunately would not recommend to others. PS. Asking the depression scale (PHQ-9) in a warm manner promotes a sense of security for patients answering. Most certainly did not get that warm and fuzzy feeling. read more

I had an appointment with Dr. Nance for bloodwork only. She tried to to upsell me on procedures I didn't ask for the entire time. When I was unwilling to do so, she was pushy & condescending. She was acting like a salesman, and trying to put as many items on my insurance as possible. She also treated my husband like he was being controlling because he helped me answer some questions regarding my medical history. If the roles were reversed (wife answering questions for the husband) no one would bat an eye. She insisted on a physical, and when I said no she told me that not allowing her to do a physical before bloodwork would hold her liable. I'm still unclear on what exactly she would be liable for. She is a doctor & is already liable for what she does with patients. It was double speak & was a scare tactic. I don't appreciate doctors who try to use their position to manipulate & can't recommend Dr. Nance at all. Only go to her if you enjoy doctors trying to manipulate you. read more
