Daughter just got married there and I have to agree the food was warm but not hot. The thing that I could not believe is they charge you $1.50 a chair if they set up because of rain in the gazebo and you do not use them. I attended a wedding here and it was absolutely beautiful! The ceremony was outside and absolutely beautiful! There were even refreshments, which was a nice touch. The reception was inside the Raisin River Room and it was adorable! The tables were smaller but fine. They had boosters and highchairs already at the tables for guests with children which was thoughtful. The food was AMAZING. I loved everything I ate (sorry I didn't take pics but I was having such a good time!) The staff was so kind and professional. I used to be a server for events like this so I know what their protocol is but man, it's still annoying when they clear your water glass by 8pm if you're not sitting down. I was also interested as to why the tables were laid out how they were because the reception was not having any dancing but there was a big open space that could have spaced out the tables more comfortably. I have been to two weddings here, and not only has the setting itself been gorgeous -- both weddings have been fun -- the type of fun you might not expect to have when you first see this place, thinking that it might be rather, well, buttoned-up. I see what Sam's saying about the potential WASP-vibe, but really, it's much more comfortable than that... this is coming from someone who has attended ceremonies and rehearsal dinners at places with "War Memorial" and "Yacht Club" in their titles. Now *those* places were WASPy, no doubt. I'm sure you could have your by-the-book wedding here and have it seem like a lil' fairytale, but both of the couples who hosted events here were pretty unique, and what I loved was how open the arrangements at Weller's seemed. They were open to bands, to letting family members of friends or friends/DJs take the stage, open to letting you bring in your own flowers. From what I understand from both sets of friends, the people were very easy to work with behind the scenes, and really know what's up (on timing, etc.) since they do SO many weddings. The service was so very smooth - everyone was helpful without being overbearing - the food set-p and quantities seemed flawless (I say this after being at two receptions in the past few years at other locations where they have run out a good portion of the food around the time my table was supposed to get ours).... with plenty of tasty goodness and drink for all! One of the weddings I'm a little fuzzy on (um, oops!), but I do know the pictures form both (incidentally taken by the same super-talented photographer) turned out great... and the setting is a part of that. The grounds are just plain gorgeous - whether in May or August, things are lush and green for an outdoor ceremony. read more

We had our wedding reception here in 2002, and everything was awesome. The planning was so easy with them, their people were great, the food was great, the attention to detail, the beautiful grounds - I can't say enough good things about them. What we really liked was their flexibility in food plans. We chose a buffet and everyone loved it. We had cocktails outside in June, in their beautiful gardens, then moved inside to the rustic carriage house for dinner. It was a really good setup for our musicians both inside and out. Our guests loved the event, as did we. Since then, Wellers has made even more improvements, and outside the gardens have been expanded. But today, they are struggling. Since the beginning of covid, they have been shut down through no fault of their own. Everyone who appreciates this one of a kind place should step up to help support them in any way they can. Wellers is a great asset to the community, and helps to create an excellent reputation for Saline. read more

the Good -- It's a beautiful & historical site. The food was pretty good as well as the bar service. the Bad -- it's all about their image and how they are perceived by the public rather than truly being there for the couple. The employees were not helpful or accommodating at all. In addition, the manager was quite snotty to me. I needed a piece of string to set up the name tag board to secure it because a part was forgotten to set up the easel. I went in the kitchen and asked and it was like pulling teeth to get a little piece of twine. Then I have to get a lecture about how people take stuff and don't give it back. No help whatsoever for the ceremony and don't even ask about the rehearsal, they can't be bothered with such mundane things. During the reception in the raisin room, I got the privilege of sitting under the leaky roof while viewing the nice waterfall of all the water leaking in the walls as well as the lights going out while I'm in the bathroom and being yelled at to get out. Not impressed. You think with how much they charge people they could afford a contractor to get their walls fixed. At first I thought it was because it's an old building but my husband is in construction and said it could most definitely be fixed. It's ridiculous to have guests sit under a leaking roof. Beautiful venue. Terrible service. Weller's didn't have enough seating for a friend's wedding, but claimed they didn't have the "man-power" to set them up. MEMBERS OF THE WEDDING PARTY SET UP WHAT FEW CHAIRS WELLER'S DID HAVE. Staff was not helpful or accommodating. Members of the wedding party had to confront the coordinator several times before chairs were brought out. Food was decent (would rate it about an 8 out of 10), but not what was actually advertised. The spacing was not properly disclosed to the bride. She had a beautiful wedding, but not thanks to this venue. If you plan on booking here, BE PREPARED TO DO THE WORK YOURSELF! My husband and I were married at Weller's Carriage House in August of 2004 and I am here to say that it was a DREAM COME TRUE! And pssst -- NOT that expensive. I think that a lot of people assume that Weller's is outrageously expensive because it is hands down theee most beautiful place to get married in the Ann Arbor area. It's not cheap, but it's not exclusive to the elite of Washtenaw County. I was impressed with how open Weller's was to our request's. We had not one, but two rock 'n roll bands play at our wedding. We also had free range to do whatever we wanted with the floral arrangements and we even rented a champagne fountain. The Wedding Photo's were AMAZING!!!! Uuugh, wow. The gardens really provide a top notch, dream come true experience that you just can't get anywhere else. Served cold... Room temperature... I had the first piece of chicken out of the tray... Cold... Prime rib was cold as well... no heating lamps... Plates were cold as ice... My husband and I got married here on 10.11.19 and the grounds and venue were incredibly beautiful! However the management was subpar at best. It's a shame that one person can set the tone for your entire wedding! First, they double charged us for our menu and never even acknowledged it until I approached it and once it was brought up they were so nonchalant about how stressed I was; responding to me with "oh it's our system and it happens all the time, no big deal, we will fix it." Umm when you are dealing with peoples money like that you need to be WAY more conscientious about handling it, then that! Second, the day of at 9am the banquet manager calls me (the bride) to see if I was aware it was raining and if I wanted to movie my ceremony inside or not, mind you the ceremony was not until 430pm AND she had several numbers for people she should of contacted other then myself! Third, it was decided that the ceremony was to be outside yet despite paying for the ceremony grounds not one single staff member could be courteous enough to wipe the guests chairs before the ceremony began! Fourth, we had an hour between the ceremony & dinner being served for the pictures to be done, yet the manager was running around harassing my vendors that we were off the timeline we had chosen. She did this several times until finally my day of coordinator, said to her, when pictures are done we will start! And to that the manager responded, "well they will be getting charged for going off their timeline." We were not able to cut our cake before dinner like we wanted because of how aggressive and persistent she was being & I even had my vendors say to me that they loved my venue but had a hard time recommending it to clients due to what they dealt with with the management that day! And finally, we had a late night snack that the manger came up to me, the bride, when it was time to serve asking me where I wanted it placed. That is totally something that should've been discussed before the reception! Overall I'm extremely disappointed with how we were treated as their guests, their unprofessionalism & negligence for their paying customers on the biggest day of their lives is frankly abhorrent to us all involved. It's a shame that the best day of our lives will now be met with the memory of disrespect & disregard for what we wanted that day. We are very disappointed. I have several food allergies and the bride made sure to put me in touch with the managers to make sure there was a plate that was safe for me to eat. The managers assured me everything would be fine on the day of, and told me the menu I would have. The day of the wedding, no one on staff had any idea what I was talking about. I was treated with condescension and annoyance from the management, and it was a complete nightmare because all I could eat was the salad and some green beans. On top of that, there were several miscommunications on Weller's end with the bride and a lot of the day of was a shitshow. I felt awful for the bride. read more

In the last 25 years I have been to at least five weddings and several other parties at Wellers, and every one was the same: stunningly beautiful venue, superb food, and courteous, top-of-the-line service. I know enough about the business to be able to say that having an accurate head count of the guests is absolutely critical to knowing how much food to prepare and staff to hire, and the caterers I have talked to (and I have talked to several) all say that getting an accurate head count, or even an approximate head count, is extremely difficult--many people nowadays don't RSVP! Even so, despite that difficulty, Wellers has delivered 100% in every way at every event I have attended. They are, quite simply, the best. read more

all i cab say is-WOW! our niece picked 1 of THE most amazing venues for her reception! the buildings, the gardens, the food & drink! there is nothing bad to say! the carriage house was stunning with paned windows everywhere, giving you breathtaking views of the beautifully manicured gardens. the gazebo outside for dancing under the stars made for a wonderful change of setting after dinner. the food, omg the food!!! the buttled appetizers were delicious & plentiful. we actually had to turn some away to save room for dinner, & we're glad we did!!! prime rib! Last weekend my daughter had a wedding in the Carriage House, and we were blessed with perfect weather! The grounds were beautiful and everyone felt comfortable during the ceremony. The food was delicious, and the waitstaff cleaned the dishes up right after guests were finished eating. We also loved how the staff dimmed the lights and how the room looked with the candles sparkling on the tables. I've worked with a wedding videographer and dj for over 3 years, and at a print shop doing wedding related printing and engraving for 7 years. If you want to hear "this is the most beautiful wedding I've ever been to" from 75% of your guests, book this place! I was married at Weller's Carriage House in mid-September of 2011. We used the stunning outdoor grounds for the ceremony, dined on one of the best meals I've ever tasted in the carriage house, and danced the night away under the gazebo. Weller's had 3 weddings booked that evening. If they hadn't told me in advance, I wouldn't have known. Even at their maximum capacity, Weller's handled everything flawlessly. Weller's staff was wonderfully efficient, polite and respectful of the fact that this is the most important day of your life (to date), and they are dedicated to making it the best experience it can possibly be. They handled every hiccup (including a medical emergency) seamlessly and with care. They are wedding professionals, and they are exceptional at what they do. Whatever location you choose, it is a shell--you fill it with your personal touches, your beautiful family, and your joy. You couldn't start with a better location than Weller's. The food was exquisite and there was plenty of it; everyone ate their fill. Weller's gave me the freedom to have a personalized DIY wedding and the result looked like a million bucks. Unbelievable photos. Happy guests. Cost-wise, it's more than renting your local lodge banquet room. But don't underestimate the value of the gardens and the banquet facilities: additional outdoor ceremony decorations, excluding bridal party flowers, but including ceremony flowers and vase--$65; my family and I designed our own reception table decorations for under $500 for 25+ tables. Knowing that the food and ambiance would be phenomenal (and they were!), I could limit the costs of the other big ticket items--alcohol, dress, flowers, photography, dj, etc.--without feeling like I was compromising my guests' experience of the event. Visited Weller's Carriage House as a potential wedding reception venue - was optimistic about website photos and grounds. Upon arrival, we eventually found staff member, Andra, in the Raisin Room. This is when our optimism immediately proved futile - not only was Andra clearly not enthused to offer any help, but had very little historical context to offer when questioned, and did not offer to guide us around the property, nor did she have any materials or information to take home. When we asked about flexibility of hosting different events (ie a shower, rehearsal) her only response was that both the Raisin Room and Carriage House required minimums, and we were obligated to pay that minimum, no exceptions. Long story short, Andra proved to diminish a potentially intriguing, historic, and lovely property with her abrasive attitude - we felt truly unwelcome & sensed we were wasting her time by being in her presence. This venue was absolutely beautiful, however, the service was HORRID. One of my best friends had their wedding here, and let me tell you, this place is GORGEOUS! However, their service, is so much to be desired. My husband, among about 15 other guests DID NOT receive dinner! No pasta, no chicken, no mashed potatoes only zucchini. When the entire table asked about the food, the staff member snapped at them and told them "no chicken, no mashed, will make more pasta." It was buffet style so one my say "oh maybe people went up for seconds, NOPE, just didn't make enough. They brought a SMALL dinner plate of pasta to the table of the ones who didn't get food TO SHARE! I am talking a SMALL dinner plate. it was horrible. They were rude to guests. Their bartenders were nice tho! I feel awful for brides and grooms who don't see behind the scenes of this place because they truly are RUDE. read more

The grounds are beautiful, the staff is extremely professional and helpful, the food is crazy good and the price really isn't as expensive as one might think. Weller's goes above and beyond in service and experience. From the keeping house to the outdoor refreshment to having staff personal serve the bride and groom dinner, it's just unparalleled. Also for those with celiac disease or gluten intolerance, rest assured you will not get sick as their staff is well versed and happy to sit down with you to go over food ingredients. Attended a wedding for close family over a weekend in July 2014. Had high hopes for a "fairy tale" wedding. Maybe for the bride and groom, it feels "fairy-tale-like" as they don't notice all of the short-comings. Tries to be a special place, but falls short... The "pluses:" beautiful outdoor grounds, patio, gazebo/pavilion and carriage house. Very cool that it is an historic property once owned by Henry Ford. The cool drinks, ready and waiting, on the patio upon arrival were great! Most of the wait staff was pleasant and did their job efficiently. The "minuses:" valet parking (B&G are charged $1 pp for valet!), seating in "the chapel", seating arrangement in carriage house (ridiculous!), extremely long wait for food, and the ridiculous rules and fees imposed upon the wedding . The Details: The front entrance (from the street) is very cramped and there is only one narrow way in. Cars are parked valet. All three halls use the same valet and parking lot, so you could be waiting for 600 people at "crunch" time. So if you are attending a larger wedding, the wait to park, from the street, can exceed 20-30 minutes or more. Due to that fact, many of our guests were late for the ceremony. The outdoor area is beautiful and welcoming. Water, lemonade and tea were available upon arrival, which was greatly appreciated on a hot day. Being able to stand/sit in the beautiful patio area before the wedding and mingle was extremely appreciated. The outdoor " chapel" area, although beautiful, is rather small and forces all guests to sit on crumbling (literally) concrete benches which leave a white dust on your clothes. Not to mention, the concrete benches get VERY hot in the summer: hot enough to burn skin! And, oh, you will NOT fit 200 guests in this chapel, comfortably, unless many are standing. The carriage house (where the reception was held) IS a beautiful room. However, someone (the hall management, I assume) errantly decided to put the 200+ guests in here using parallel long narrow tables, VERY close to one another, along the walls. We could not move or even put our legs under the table. For some reason, the hall uses tables which have sides which extend down about 8 inches from the top surface--no one could put their legs under the tables! Due to the cramped conditions, we could not get up to get a drink, go to the rest room or mingle without asking the entire TWO tables (ours and the one next to us) to also stand up!! VERY VERY uncomfortable and stupid! Perhaps round tables could have been used, which would have been WAY more comfortable. The food service was VERY slow. It took 1/2 hour for a salad to be brought to the tables and (took 1.5 hours before buffet food was ready . This after being called in to the carriage house saying that dinner's ready! The food was good but not great. Servers were ok but not great. Some of it tasted like the GFS (Gordon Food Service) meals served at many lower priced halls. I have had better at average wedding halls. The hall does NOT allow the "client" (the person paying the bill) to taste test the food in advance of the wedding. I have never heard of such a thing. Every hall I have ever worked with or been to allows you to "try" the food before deciding. Also I should note that the salad is served to your table, but the rest of the dinner is buffet (cafeteria) style! Why? At these prices? The outdoor pavilion/gazebo was set up , after dinner, for dancing with a DJ. That was fine and being outdoors was beautiful. All in all it was a nice, but somewhat disappointing day at Wellers. The grounds and the hall are NO WAY as large as they appear on the website. There are 3 wedding halls in the space of, perhaps, 500 feet: way too cramped! Since this was a family function, I KNOW what was paid for this function. To the person who reviewed and said that it really isn't that expensive, well, perhaps you have a rich uncle or Swedish bank account. This place is incredibly expensive: pricey for dinner, extra charge for the outdoor ceremony, extra charge for table skirts, extra charge for champagne glasses, extra charge for the soft drinks, extra charge for real glasses, extra charge to set up cupcakes (really? charging the family to lay cupcakes on a table!?). They "nickel and dime you" to death (don't believe me? How about charging $25 for a reading stand at the ceremony, or charging $25 to have a microphone available!?! Or charging $2.50 per slice to cut your wedding cake? That is greedy!) ! Most of these things are INCLUDED in the prices of other halls. The 200+ person wedding cost exceeded $25,000!!! Horrible customer service! I booked the Raisin room. They didn't tell me I couldn't take photos in the gardens...that I only got the other side which has no gardens...just bushes. It was the entire reason we booked it. They told is they coordinated with the other bride for us but then the bride got upset we were taking picture over there...imagine my embarrassment. Then I asked if we could use water to fill our center pieces and ice for water bottles for favors. They told us we had to bring water and ice with us which we did but what a hassle. When we got there they yelled at my mom because she was looking for the table numbers to help put the center pieces on the correct table. They were snotty with her and told us that we should already have a floor plan and they don't provide or put out numbers on until after the staff gets there. We spent hours working on the schedule with them and they didn't know or stick to it. They do not provide a coordinator to make things go smoothly! Then when I was waiting for food my new husband was getting my phone from under the table so I could take pictures. They walked up and told him to get back in his seat. We thought they were joking but then they insisted he sit down. It was very rude. All this to tell is they were helping us get food. What a joke!!!! If it wasn't for me running around to get things done it would not have worked. I had to be my own coordinator and make sure the staff was doing things right...even to the point of asking to cut the cake 3x's!!! If you have hired your own wedding coordinator I'm sure it would go smoothly but for the bride doing it herself you don't have fun because they need constant monitoring. My daughter was married September, 2013. We chose Weller's Carriage House because it was all inclusive and for the beautiful grounds it offered us. As we went through the process of required mtgs., paperwork, etc. during the planning stages, we discovered a lot of rules set for us to follow. Many were understandable, but there were some that were rather nit-picky. Those were the ones that were obviously set for the convenience of the owner and her higher-up staff. Some seemed to be established to make/save $$ on their end. I get it. It is a business. Weeks before the wedding, we noticed a "Help Needed" sign posted outside. It remained there for quite a while. Well, out of the two weddings being held at the same time, the other larger than ours, guess whose wedding was short changed on service? I felt badly for the TWO service staff serving, clearing, pouring, etc. for our party. They tried their best. My question/suggestion is this: If there is clearly a shortage of staff, why can't the owner and planners help? We were told earlier in the process that they are not present at the events. WHY? If you clearly know that there is barely enough help, why wouldn't you be there? My other concern, mirrors a review I read earlier in our process. It spoke of having not enough food for their guests. Another mother of the bride told me of her son's wedding a year before. She told me guests from another wedding reception came over and asked if they could get food from their buffet line, because the reception they were at ran out of food!!!! She gladly invited them in to pick from their buffet. Are you kidding me???!!! Like I said, the grounds were a gorgeous setting, the service staff were extremely kind, efficient, wanting to please. The food was incredible, just wish there was flexibility in planning for men who take more because they eat more. The appetizer/main dish count is cut way too close for comfort. It apparently leaves people hungry for more. Oh yes, one more thing. A large Pop Delivery truck pulled in to make its delivery blocking the drive to the guest parking area right at the time of our wedding ceremony!! I had to ask the delivery man to move his giant truck so the bridal car could get through! Oh brother. Maybe, just maybe, the owner and her planners need to give more face time to their clients, and help out when it truly counts. The service staff needs a HUGE bump in pay for their hard work and professionalism. Too bad their bosses aren't present to see how much they do for the Weller's Carriage House reputation. read more

Fabulous and unique venue for a wedding! Reception started inside the beautiful and rustic Weller's Carriage House and ended outside around the gardens and under the stars. Buffet style dinner was a crowd pleaser and the food was delicious. Servers and bartenders were attentive and professional (and fun!). Guests loved walking the grounds, taking photos, socializing and dancing under the outside gazebo. There are few odd things (what venue doesn't have a glitch?) such as the bathrooms are somewhat small and outdated (but this posed no apparent problem even with 175 guests) and liquor must be purchased from only one business. But seriously this was an amazingly great place to celebrate a wedding. We all enjoyed having the opportunity to move away from our dinner tables so we could meet and greet family and friends. Dancing outside to our heart's content was a blast ("you should be dancing, yeah!"). I would highly recommend this venue to any bride-to-be.
