    Rabbit Hole - Koel Bird

Ann Arbor is always such an interesting spot for a night out. During the school year, the streets…read moreare teeming with college kids bouncing around, which of course is what you would expect from a great college town. What I do love about Ann Arbor is that they balance out the drunk haunts of young adults with great restaurants and high end bars for the people looking for more than a pitcher of cheap beer. Rabbit Hole is one of those spots. Down the same little alley way as Circ Bar, this underground bar is tucked away, stone hallways and open up and lead to different openings that provide seating, a dance floor and an amazingly stocked bar. If you like bourbon you will love this spot. Our bartender was fantastic, absolutely worked with me on working out a drink. I know I took a pic of an espresso martini, but my drink was made perfect also. Another nice surprise was that it wasn't some crazy price on the drink (I mean any crazier than other places and quite cheaper than around my home), especially for Ann Arbor. Walking away from the bar is a dance floor, and surrounding it are booths in a separate rooms and tables on a level up from the dance floor. There are also two hallways that lead to more booths and tables in different areas of the bar. As you can imagine this is a huge place. We came on a Friday and it wasn't very busy, but school is out and the weather had just broke so not surprising. I really enjoyed my time and the company I was with, and I would definitely go back.

Another place actually open later, I needed to come and try…read more Rabbit hole definitely has a unique look. It reminded me of visits through caves I just needed some Stalactites. Definitely a bit confusing to figure out where to go. I wish I had been given some direction. There is seating against the wall throughout the winding halls. There is a dance floor and a couple bars. I loved the look which would definitely bring me back if I had also loved the Cocktails. The drink I ordered was way too sweet. I was underwhelmed. Most of their drinks looked on the sweeter side even the bartender mentioned. For my second I just ordered a glass of bubbly. It was also on the sweeter side but an improvement. For the prices, I really don't want to have to get up, find my way back to the bar to order my drink, then walk back to my seat avoiding the people and trying not to spill.

We spent a couple nights at Stone Chalet, and are glad we did. It's about one mile from where…read moreTherese H. grew up, and near the homes of two other family members. More important to you, it's nestled in a beautiful neighborhood about one mile to most elements of the U of M central campus. So you can walk, if you're so inclined, and five to ten minutes in a car gets you to any number of important or interesting places. Parking is on the street, which turned out to be no problem, as there always were plenty of spaces near the entry sidewalk. Perhaps it's helpful to say that the Stone Chalet campus is the site of a former Unitarian church. That's how I remember it, driving/jogging by during student years. Therese remembers it was the site of piano recitals. Anyway, the former "main building" has been converted to an event center (we didn't spend much time there) and the former parsonage converted to guest quarters. Our room was Alice-in-Wonderland themed, spacious and cozy for an autumn visit. Breakfast was ordered via an app, with many choices, including gluten-free options for Therese. If you want a good and even inspiring conversation, seek out the owner Vincent, who can share some fascinating stories about real estate and his efforts to purchase, maintain, and make profitable the Stone Chalet property. We enjoyed our time here, and wish Vincent, Daisy, family and staff, all the best. Thank you, Stone Chalet.

This was our first time trying Venue (since it was Lucky's grocery store)…read more Let me say, we will definitely be returning whenever we can [because we have been missing out, since they opened]. The food was phenomenal: we had the Rosemary table bread with hummus, meatball alfredo, grilled cheese w/ tomato soup and chocolate cheesecake. Our waitress Elle was on the ball, and had excellent suggestions. The atmosphere was wonderful: the music was not too loud, and even though it's a big space, the overall talking was soft enough you could have a normal conversation with your table mate(s). The art slideshow was fun to see as well. Venue is a fantastic place for a date night, even during a public event.

I had the Porchetta Reuben and my Bride had the Salmon Burger. Both were accompanied by shoe string French Fries, which were exceptionally delicious. For dessert, we shared the Brownie with vanilla ice cream, whipped cream, and warm fudge sauce. Again, really good. I had an espresso, which was expertly prepared and presented. Service was great. Our server, Daniel, was extremely attentive, knowledgeable, and quite sociable. We each had leftovers, which will make us another fine lunch. A word on the prices: We were pleased with the quality and quantity of the servings for the cost. In summary, Venue is a gem of a restaurant and we highly recommend it for any occasion. We made dinner reservations for Valentine's Day dinner before we left! A note on pricing:

3.5 out of 5 stars so I will round this up to 4 stars. I was in town for the Cinetopia film…read morefestival this weekend and I didn't want to make the 45 to 60 minute drive home Saturday night, since I was seeing movies on Sunday, so I opted to stay here. One of my credit cards gives me a $150 off deal if you book on the Delta site, with a prepaid stay, and this qualified: it was $175 for a King Executive suite (basically one room but with a sitting area), or I could've paid $160 for a standard king room. Since I was paying either $10 or $25, I opted for the larger room. Pros: -Decently sized room -Microwave, although we didn't use it, and mini fridge -Little sitting area (2-person couch, chair, table) -Super hot shower, although my fiance used it first and said it took a while to warm up -Surprisingly nice TP, like definitely 2- or 3-ply. Con: they wedge it into the holder and it doesn't spin, so I had to take it out. -Free breakfast, but pretty basic: some hot options, like sausage, potatoes, and eggs, but mostly cold options like cereal and certain breads. They did have a nice juice selection, they had orange juice and a V8 blend. -Comfy bed with lots of pillows -A lot of random amenities like a billiards area and other games, pool area, outdoor patio-type area, etc. -Easy access to US-23 Cons: -When we got to the room there were two bottles of water with a sign that said "enjoy a refreshing bottle of water, $1 each." Why not provide those complimentary for the room and add $2 to my nightly rate? I'd prefer that. -Not a lot of places to charge devices, at least not near the bed. My fiance had two slots in the clock radio, I believe it was, but they eventually stopped working. I had to plug my phone in near a lamp across the room. -This is a small one but housekeeping knocked on our door at 10:45 a.m. today while we were trying to prepare for 11:00 a.m. check out. I feel like they should know what rooms are checking out on what days? Not sure about that. That being said, I would stay here again, although $175 seems like a lot of money, albeit on a Saturday night.
