The highlights, for me, are the great variety of greens, fruits and vegetables (including organic ones!) and the fact that they sell Santïs meats, so I don't have to do two shopping trips. They sell also a good variety of rice (if you're not used to the filipino one, then they have Basmati, Jasmine, Brown Rice and much more) and beans. Thanks to the beans from Landmark, I can keep the Brazilian "rice and beans" tradition at home. And believe me, that means a lot to me :) I also love Landmark's food court. There's a green juice in some stall there that's is just perfect. I also like Bread Talk and Kumori, the Japanese bakery. I mean, there's a lot to explore there before you start pushing your shop cart! TIP: Landmark is cheaper than Rustan's and has much more variety than the SM Supermarket. Choose it for the big once-a-month grocery.

Located at the heart of Binondo on Ongpin Street, Bee Tin has not changed much over the years, making it a must-see stop in Chinatown. The Chinese deli/food mart has everything you need from preserves, imported food, Chinese candies and sweets, cured/smoked meats, dehydrated produce, frozen goods and more. I really like going here because there's so much to see and buy that's not usually in your local grocery. I think I picked up the habit of learning how to appreciate delis such as Bee Tin thanks to my grandma who'd always bring me whenever she needs to replenish her supply of preserves. Speaking of preserves, you really have to taste Bee Tin's selection because there's a lot of them! They are neatly stored in bins and you can buy them according to weight. My favorites are the plums - they are pretty large and the mix of sweet and sour has a nice effect on the palette. Another thing I'm crazy about is Bee Tin's beef jerky. While they also have the packaged kind of beef jerkey (I'm looking at you Cow Label), their own mix of the large and leathery strips of beef is a class of its own. You can also purchase these according to weight, and we tend to buy a lot of it. (Might as well make the drive worth it right?) The taste of the beef jerky plays between sweet and salty and the meat itself isn't too hard to chew on. Before I go to the check out counter, I also make a beeline to the chocolates and candies section. Sometimes they stock these really weird but good gummy candies from China (I once bought P5 packets of peach and cola flavored candies - these were really good!), and they also have imported Japanese chocolate snacks like Pocky. Other stuff you can see at Bee Tin are the packaged noodle soups, dry seaweed, Chinese candies and chocolates, haw flakes and lots more other stuff. Another plus for Bee Tin is that their prices are a lot cheaper than in regular groceries.

She would drag me here a day or two before our family reunions to buy cheese, meats and cold cuts. They do have plenty of options for cheese and cold cuts. A bit pricey, but the quality is really good. My mom and I frequent this supermarket because the lines for the cashier aren't that long, there are less people roaming around and shopping, and the place is pretty quiet. We like doing our grocery shopping in peace. If you get hungry in the middle of shopping, don't worry. You can sit down, take a break and eat. They've got cooked meals, a sushi bar, salads and sandwiches. Today, I found out that if you park your car at the 6750 Steel Carpark and shop at Rustan's Supermarket, you can have your car park ticket validated and you get free parking. Also, they put all your groceries in boxes. You can ask the baggage boys to help you bring the boxes to your car. They are so helpful.

The cacophony of sounds, visuals of fresh produce, aromas of various dishes from various cultures is alone a world trip in one place. My favorite have been the Indian food stall right at the entrance on the right. I also love the Hainanese rice, the halohalo and different fresh fruit juices. There's a French food stall which is pricey. There is a stall selling pad Thai but i didn't find it good. At times I've encountered live entertainment from local and at one time a Russian singer too! The fresh seafood selection is very nice and you can bargain which is fun! I bought a native chicken once and regretted it as after cooking it I found out the meat is almost non existent and whatever meat there was was incredibly rubbery! I was told to use a pressure cooker. Perhaps. Though I'll stick to normal chicken, maybe organic. Seating can be very limited but if you wait around patiently you'll get one eventually. I'm not that type so I go to the park just a few steps away and you can always easily find a spot to eat there. You can feed the cats too (cats are everywhere in Makati for some reason!) Bottom line- this place is amazing! PS: only on mornings though can you enjoy this place. So plan on it! You won't regret it.

But that's neither here nor there. The name works as far as the owners are concerned. And while there may be a number of supermarkets in the vicinity, starting with an SM Supermarket at the SM City at the Bicutan exit, to a smallish Tropical Hut in the middle of Dona Soledad Avenue, to a relatively new Puregold also along the main thoroughfare of Bicutan, Paranaque, but Big C has kept its clientele through the years. Incidentally, there are also a number of 7-Elevens and Mini Stops in the general area, but no problemo for the owners of Big C. The place just keeps rolling along with the times. There's no secret to the success of Big C. It may not look like much from the outside, but inside it is surprisingly air-conditioned. Best of all, their prices are still the lowest in the area. Because of this, a lot of restaurants in this part of town still get their supplies from this old supermart. It has everything that the big supermarkets have, there's sufficient parking, and once you've become a suki (regular customer), the cashiers will be friendly to you. For those who get hungry while shopping, there's a siomai stall at the entrance. There's also a small restaurant that's part of Big C, but I've never gotten around to trying it out yet.
