I've never been with a credit union before, only banks. I moved to a credit union because they are supposed to be better all around. Better rates, lower fees, more support, etc. But, being with this credit union has completely turned me off credit unions. This credit union only cares about the money they can snatch from you. I use the privilege pay option, which is supposed to be like overdraft protection, but this place will charge you a privilege pay fee even if you have money in on the same day. Example: the CU closed on a holiday that meant a 3 day weekend. I deposited money the night before they reopened to make sure I had enough to cover what was going to withdraw from my account the next day, but they still charged me the $28 privilege pay fee for every single transaction that came through the next day, regardless of my overnight deposit. They do the same if something goes through on your payday. If the bill is the one they process first, and your paycheck is what they process second, they will charge you $28 to pay the bill they processed first, regardless of the fact that you just had your paycheck deposited 5 minutes later. To make matters worse, they don't post "pending" transactions--or remove those funds from your account so you
know you don't have that money to spend, and they take 2-3 days to process purchases, so you never really know how much you have available to spend. If you look at your account and see that you have money, and use that money, they'll still charge you the $28 fee. Just this month I had a positive balance and they charged me this fee 4 times, WITH A POSITIVE BALANCE each time. When I called, they said I had something pending, that btw didn't actually post to my account until two days later, that actually made my balance negative. And even though that "pending fee" didn't actually post to my account until two days later, they still wouldn't return the $112 in fees they took from my account when I had a positive balance. The lady in accounting just said, "sorry ma'am. Maybe you should keep better track of your spending." Ya, I thought I was, looking at my account to make sure the funds were available. Has anybody ever been with a BANK that didn't remove the money that's NOT available for a pending transaction? Furthermore, has anybody ever been with a BANK that still charged overdraft fees even if their customer got money into their account the same day? I haven't. Not ever. And, I've had a checking account for the past 20 years. DO NOT BECOME A MEMBER OF THIS CREDIT UNION!! YOU WILL REGRET IT! THEY WILL TAKE MONEY FROM YOU EVERY CHANCE THEY GET! read more
