The site is low tech, with baskets instead of lockers, creasoted wooden cubicles and benches (gorgeously warm in the sun), and is without the slides and playthings seen in many places. It is a long pool at 100 yards, and the deep end is actually in the middle. Half is usually roped off for lane swimming, while small children and families cluster at the two shallow ends. The water isn't the warmest you'll find (although it is heated), but once you start swimming, it is refreshing. The long benches soak up the sun and are usually full of people sunbathing, talking and generally enjoying themselves. Word of warning, it does get crowded so on particularly hot days arrive early.

Well when I got there I realised that you had to be a member or pay a pretty heft greens fee, well at least to a student it seemed hefty! Moving away from this minor issue, you can find yourself a beautiful golf course with a lovely members club, this is one of those real and true society locations.

It also very much compliments 'The Junction' nightclub which was stuck out on its own before this was built, but now it is perfectly situated next to the bars and restaurants. It also features an LA fitness gym, which is well equipped and also has a lovely swimming pool, and also a decent cinema which isn't too crowded like the 'Vue' in town. A shame that the video shop has closed down, but I suppose that's the credit crunch!

There are pool tables and games machines around the area so that you can play while you wait for the lane to become available. I do recommend booking as it does get busy. Sometimes they have special nights where if you get a strike with a lucky pin then you get a free bottle of cheap bubbly - what more incentive could you need to get a strike! It is fairly new so all in good condition at the moment. i think you can also get a discount on your car parking if you get the ticket validated when you pay.

Plus points: long opening hours (though they don't always stick to closing times if you're a late bird), good range of machines and weights all on one level, hot showers, plenty of lockers and changing space. Pick the right times and the place is surprisingly poseur free, with more than enough machines and space for you to work your guts out without interruption. Low points: fairly disinterested staff imo (I know it's cheap membership and guess they are on peanuts but still), not all machines that look the same act the same (I think this is due to wear n tear, so tend to have a favoured machine for each exercise to be consistent). In peak hours there are a few fitness fanatics who make you feel like why bother. Music is a bit too loud, take an mp3 player if you don't like chart music.

My son loves coming here, it's nice and close to the station and Tesco so we go on the train. He has a great time climbing, swinging and throwing balls around. The play equipment is not very well supervised, so you need to keep an eye on what's going on. There's a cafe which serves good meals and watery coffee which you can consume while the kids play. The toilets are good, clean and tidy.

I used the cardio machines, the pools, the sauna and steam room during my free trial. The pool was warm and clean, and was pretty quiet whenever I went there. The cardio machines were good, but some of the bikes didn't work properly which is annoying. I liked the changing areas and the showers, nice and warm and very clean throughout. I'd love to join, but £51 a month off-peak is too much for me at the moment.
