This is an unpretentious 'country bistro' where very good food is clearly the order of the day. It seems to be a family-run business and is situated in an old pub looking out towards the gorgeous old church and the sea, in beautiful Llanrhidian. In Bristol, great food such as that on offer here would be accompanied by swanky waiters, posh furnishings, all the trappings. But here what you get is a table in a converted pub, friendly service from amiable youngsters, and a treat for the palate. We really appreciated our amuse-bouches of oyster mushroom in excellent consomme. We both then ate the same starter of scrambled egg on toast and laverbread with smoked salmon, all the flavours and textures working together very happily. I should have written this review at the time, but now a couple of weeks later my memory is not perfect but I know I had a herby, crusted rack of lamb in just-right sauce, and Mr B had a fine breast of duck. We loved the home-made petits-fours that came with the coffee at the end, and would gladly come back again to this relaxed environment where the quality of the food and the skills used to cook it are a real treat. read more
