Chi Wellness - Debra Lin Allen, Qigong Healer, Teacher and Coach

Chi Wellness

Chi Wellness and Debra Lin Allen have been a blessing to me. If you're ready to explore Qigong and…read morethe ancient art of Chinese healing, this is the place you need to be! Qigong movement will teach you how to settle your qi (energy), cultivate harmony and balance between your mind and body, release negative energy and promote a sense of calm, balance and well-being within your body, mind and spirit. Want to go deeper? Debra also offers many classes and workshops throughout the year which will enhance your understanding and practice of Qigong. Debra and the Chi Wellness community are patient, kind, welcoming and caring. I've been studying at Chi Wellness for nearly 4 years. The positive changes and sense of self-empowerment I have experienced in my life have been nothing short of amazing. I feel very fortunate to have found Debra and Chi Wellness in my never ending quest for a deeper sense of self, knowledge, connection and self-healing. My only regret is that I didn't find Chi Wellness at an earlier stage in my life!

My Qigong journey started with Deb in 2004. As I've grown in my Qigong practice and with the…read moreguidance of Deb's ongoing movement classes, I've seen the positive results in all aspects of my life. Sometimes you don't know how much of a positive impact something is in your life until there is an absence. I was traveling a lot with my work and was not staying true to my Qigong movement practice and that's when I realized how much spiritual, emotional and physical support Qigong has in my life. I also learned how much the Qigong studies and movement have positively supported my journey with Bipolar. The movement, in particular, calms my mind and body, provides a grounded space, and improved my overall physical and emotional balance in life. Over time, for me, I learned once a week Qigong movement practice is exactly what I need. Deb was instrumental in my discovery of this and has supported me, without judgement or expectations, along my life and spiritual journey. Meeting Deb, having her as my Qigong and spiritual teacher, mentor and living example, has been and continues to be one of the best experiences of my life. I am deeply grateful for her, her school of Qigong studies, Chi Wellness practices and her unconditional love and support!

North Star Martial Arts - Martial Arts Games Workshop

North Star Martial Arts

I first met Scott through Chinese Medical school, where he taught Taiji, and soon thereafter began…read morestudying Bagua with him. While most in the Alternative arts and medicine community have incredible hearts and caring personalities, very few have achieved what I would call a high-level of practice, or, "Master" status. It takes a dedicated practice and training with highly qualified teachers (the 2 main factors that are missing in most practitioners'/teachers' backgrounds). Scott has trained intensively (and I'm not talking about a year here or few months there) with the best, and continues to dedicate himself to his practice to this day. Scott's expertise becomes more and more apparent the longer you study with him, as he never shows off his abilities or strains to prove himself. I wish nothing more than for him to get into the ring with one of these "Mixed Martial Arts" fighters, thoroughly kick their ass, and end that nonsense of a sport. Alas, he would never do such a thing. Scott's teaching style is very individualized, meaning everyone gets a lot of attention. He is attuned to the needs and sensitivities of each student, however different they are, and will adjust the lesson accordingly. From young children to older people, he has an enormous range as a teacher and instructor. I am looking forward to when my daughter will be old enough to begin taking kung-fu lessons with him. I recommend reading Scott's reviews for his San Francisco practice as well (don't miss the "filtered" ones), as there are some excellent testimonials of Scott as a teacher.

Where to begin, first of all about me and who I am, I'm 29 years old I've been studying buddhism,…read moremeditation, and body awareness practices steadily since I was about 12. I spent about 4 of those years heavily involved in aikido (w/ Frank Doran-sensei), kenjustsu (kashima shin-ryu) and kyudo (ANKF). More recently I spent about the last 5 years living in China as a full time live-in (gongfu) student of a daoist priest. I have been helping a friend teach some of his classes in the San Francisco area but have so far refrained from making it a personal profession though I have been encouraged to do otherwise. What to say about Scott? Having met various teachers in China, Japan, the US, and even some in South America, I have never met one that held a candle to Scott's mastery of gongfu (kung fu) as a vehicle for self defense, a cultural art form, or a vehicle for spiritual transformation, let alone all of them together or with an understanding of why they all matter and how they relate. I've met a lot of folks who traveled to china to live and train there, sometimes for years. It's really exciting to go to a place where it looks like "just in the movies". The thing about someone like Scott is... he's hard to spot. He doesn't live in a temple. He doesn't wear robes or have a topknot. He doesn't live in China and he's not Chinese. He doesn't even follow certain ritual forms of sounding profound that are standard among such teachers or drop buzzwords. So you typically need to have some background in order to see what he has. If you have a mature appetite for martial arts and want to train with the best, go check him out. If you are just curious and want to see what he's up to or if it's a good fit, he's very approachable and loves to talk about this stuff. If you're looking for cardio-kickboxing or to prove how tough you are to people, you should go somewhere else for that.
