Over all the food is genuine German cuisine. I took the schnitzel with fries and so did my two food tasters. I am disappointed though in the complete lack of customer service to the guests who were there , towards our table , and to the employees. There was an older gentleman who seems to be running the establishment but was yelling at his employees, and the cherry on top was when he slammed my menu on the table. I am not over exaggerating. It was very busy because of the football game going on and the staff seemed lost and overwhelmed by it. I will say this (because the establishment doesn't deserve a full review) if you cannot handle the heat in the kitchen then you should get out. Not everything was great, but a decent meal overall. It was my second Schweinshaxe (pork knuckle) on this trip in Germany and it was even better than the first one. Super crispy and crunchy skin, filled with juicy, tender and flavorful pork meat. Skip the Sauerbraten (beef roast). It was dry and disgusting. Hash browns as a side was delicious though. Good place to people watch, though service is spotty. If you don't mind that, chill with a nice glass of Kölsch (Cologne's beer of choice) and enjoy the view and festive atmosphere.

The bar was full of regulars and while many diners may have been tourists, it was a local experience. Our waiter was a bit frazzled working by himself on a Friday night but our beers came quickly, he explained the menu to us, and brought the food relatively fast. They were out of some of the menu items but the specials on menu are their ghoulash items with meat from the nearby forest (deer, cervine, beef). And we were very happy with our ghoulash and spatzel.
