Great collections from a great variety of different artists. The employees are professional, informative and sweet. The layout of the gallery is clean and sharp. Quite a few abstract pieces (not my cup of tea), but all were wonderful, none the less. They even have tours here. Don't be afraid to ask questions! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a true piece that will be a major head turner for your home. read more

When a wall cutout of a huge Banksy artwork is greeting you from the window, your inner artist forces you to go in and satisfy her/his daily art appetite. While admiring Banksy's huge "Haight Street Rat" and thinking the gallery was closed, the owner opened the door and invited us in. Next thing I knew, we were in for an art lover's treat: a private tour with intricate detailed analysis and life stories of artists like Rudolph Bauer, Gerome Kamrowski, and Enrico Donati, comparisons of their works with their more famous colleagues'. All while surrounded by artworks of aforementioned artists as well as Picasso, Dali, and Miró. We spent almost an hour here. Yes, of course, the owner was trying to make a sale. But the experience was outstanding. Even if you don't like or understand surrealism, you cannot help but appreciate it after spending time with a passionate art connoisseur like that. read more

It's funny to walk in and know exactly what the workers here are thinking: "He can't afford anything here." I don't mind because I can't afford anything here. The smallest object here went for about $9,000. Break it, they break you. Currently they have a pretty good show going. You'll find work from Chagall, Bauer, Calder, and Picasso to name a few. The lighting is a bit worrying since there are hot florescent bulbs shining directly on works. There was another piece that was somewhat dangling from its frame. What a shame. A worker here notified me that this place used to be "Clothing Corner." So if you walk upstairs there's a little nook and cranny that used to be the dressing room! I didn't realize it until she told me. There are three levels to explore. I'm not sure if they have an elevator for customers. Definitely worth the look if you're into just plain great art. Since they have so much artwork, the layout feels cramped and condensed. But it's free so I can't complain much. The workers aren't snobby, only extremely bored because of the lack of potential buyers. read more

Incredible collection. The listings are a little steep. Bought a couple pieces to round out my guest house. read more

Weinstein Gallery - Art Galleries Near Me - San Francisco, California

This Gallery's sign in the window, hand writen, saying that "its warm inside come in" doesn't necesaraly seem to fit with the Galleries upscale association. The sign doesn't lie, the staff is nice, friendly, knowledgeable, and aren't to pressuring or critical. The gallery it self is 3 levels and has a vast collection of amazing art of all types. The experience will alter your perceptions, develop appreciation, and overall blend, enlighten, inspire, revise, elevate, charm and give vision to a new direction of Art Galleries. read more

I am not sure what I loved more about my experience with the Weinstein Gallery...the amazing and beautifully curated collection, or the conversation I had with a gentleman, Carlos, who worked there. I wasn't sure if there was admission, so upon entering the gallery (a gem nestled in the midst of a bustling shopping/tourist district) a man smiled at me and I just asked him what the deal was. He kindly explained that all of the art was a private collection, that it was all for sale and anyone who appreciates it is free to explore, look around and enjoy the pieces. Throughout the hour or so that I was there, Carlos the time answer questions for me about the art and the artists, explained to me his theories on how Andy Warhol changed art and it has since never recovered, and even got me to appreciate the process and conceptualization of Jackson Pollack. He recommended authors to me who were peers of certain artists that were displayed there and generally was just pleasure to learn from and talk with. We even dissected and debated the symbolism behind a few of the works. The collection itself is superb...Miro, Dali (a personal favorite) Chagall, Picasso and a few artists with whom I was not familiar but really liked: Leonor Fini, Gordon Onslow Ford, Brad Noble and Enrico Denati. And just before you think this place could not get anymore fabulous, Carlos recommended I go the de Young Museum and even had another helpful employee look up the directions and emailed them to my blackberry! Amazing in so many ways, the Weinstein Gallery is a welcoming, refreshing place focused on quality pieces, education and making art accessible to everyone! read more

An absolute pleasure in every way, Weinstein Gallery is an afternoon well spent. An afternoon, because you will not learn more about modern art in a shopping district any where in the U.S., save the Wal-Mart on the corner of Klan and Lout in Pig Lick, Arkansas. Don't pretend you don't know this gem of a cultural epicenter. It is lucky for Weinstein Gallery that their only serious competition is lost somewhere between NYC and SF. The staff is very informative and the gallery is bathed in natural light. I purchased one piece and seventy six coloring books. Don't gaze at this review with those jealous eyes...I share. However, bring your own bloody Crayolas and sharpener --- I will provide the Mac18. read more

If your junior college art history classes only got you as far as Pablo Picasso, then this is the gallery for you. As a tourist you can pop in and feel like you skirted paying admission to the SFMOMA. If you are a real contemporary aficionado (as in, the art was made last week by a living artist and more than just a pretty picture) I recommend skipping down to 49 Geary or 77 Geary, where the art is more interesting and affordable. read more

There's not a better location for an art gallery to be but right smack in the one of the corners of Union Square-this gallery is beautiful-it's tri-level, housed with beautiful contemporary art pieces & friendly staff. I actually went here for a charity fashion show, where the runway was the 3-story saircase-wicked cool! I would come here to check out art anytime and bring my friends here. read more

Extensive collection of a variety of artists. Staff is friendly, competitive, and very driven to make a sale. It also helps when they're well informed about the artist and each piece. I highly recommend this gallery. read more

I stumbled upon this gallery two years ago while visiting San Francisco. It's quite unusual finding an art gallery in the middle of Union Square, I must say. I remember the big Picasso and Joan Miró signs outside and was immediately drawn in..... I just learned from the other reviewers that they sell the paintings on exhibit here. What impressed me the most was the vast number of Joan Miró paintings (two floors worth) and maybe among the best Miró paintings I've ever seen (no need to go to Barcelona!). I must have spent at least 90 minutes here and it was a great find. I'm very glad that this is still around and will definitely go back. read more

Art Gallery for tourists and the uninformed. The works you'd buy here will probably never be worth more than you paid.

Large and lovely! This gallery is a hidden gem in Union Square. It has a wide variety of modern pieces: Dali, Miro, Chagall, Bauer, Matisse, Picasso. And I swear, every tiny room has a large black leather sofa. I counted at least ten. That's more leather sofas than staff I saw on hand. Incredible. You know what that means? You could drool over the art and wish it were yours and fall into light sleep and not get caught...for about 15 minutes. If that were your thing. read more

Three floors of paintings, drawings, color etchings... Much of it was abstract. I didn't like it much; guess it's just not my type of art. Picasso, Salvador Dali, Joan Miro, others. It's 20th and some 21st century stuff. I wouldn't come back. read more

A bright new mega-gallery on Union Square featuring big name classic modernists and some contemporary artists. The staff is welcoming even if you aren't buying, and it's basically a free museum minus the cafe. Open late for those must-have Chagall lithographs on the way to the airport, and they have dramatic window displays for the rest of the night. read more

Cool!!! A very awesome art gallery right in Union Square. I loved admiring all the Bauer, Chagall, Picasso, Dali, and a personal favorite Kipniss. There was even a Calder mobile, too bad it was in a glass case instead of hung up. I also liked the glass sculptures that were on display throughout the gallery. Staff wasn't pretentious and allowed us to view the art even though we weren't buying. read more

Free admission to see some of the most beautiful art pieces by Picasso, Dali, Miro, and more. Located at Union Square.

This gallery is amazing! It has awesome works by Roberto Matta and Gordon Onslow Ford. You can spend hours just admiring those paintings. The staff in the gallery are very friendly and extremely knowledgeable. One guy spent almost an hour telling us the history of all the paintings and the artists. It's like a free tour in a museum. Ruth Blochs sculptures in the gallery are worth the visit alone. I absolutely love this place. read more

The Weinstein Gallery is an absolutely beautiful space to host an event in Union Square. The front is all windows, so lots of natural light comes in, the interior is huge and can accommodate a large group...but of course the best part is that you find yourself casually surrounded by Miros and Chagalls all evening. read more

This is the world's most beautiful, most amazing gallery! I mean that not only in regard to spaciousness, size, and layout, but the staff is wonderful, knowledgeable, and helpful as well, and the works of art that are for sale there belong in a museum (and apparently a good number of them have been). I could visit Weinstein Gallery every day of the week, and still see new works each time. Each branch (and there are several) is like getting a free tour of a museum. Always pleasurable, always worthwhile! --Irene read more

i stumbled into this place quite randomly while trying to avoid the hordes of tourists at union square. they have a neat joan miro restrospective going on right now. it's a really beautifully arranged space inside. and even tho all the pieces are for sale, it feels more like a museum in that it's super low pressure and you can take as much time as you want to browse around. their collection in mainly contemporary (post 1900) stuff, just as i like it. the gals who work here are all super nice and friendly, not as you'd expect in a hoity toity art gallery and made me feel so welcome! i loved the little rooms with the sofas so you can just sit and appreciate the artwork and imagine just for a moment that you are in your own living room surrounded by these visually provacative images. even if you don't have $60K to drop on a chagall original, this place is definitely worth a visit for locals and tourists alike. read more

My husband and I discovered this gallery several years ago and were thrilled. The works are excellent and the gallerists knowledgable and friendly. We've been to museums and galleries all over the world, but found wonderful artists we didn't know about, like Bauer and Fini. Great Surrealist collection, as well as expressionist. Last time we went, I was thrilled to see some of John Anderson's epic paintings on display. I knew him as a kid. Time for another visit! read more

Check out the Bauer pieces. If you don't get to the third floor, you'll miss my favorite piece of his. Tour hosted by the brothers tonight, amazing, knowledgeable, a joy and I am not a sophisticated art connoisseur =D read more

Friendly staff provide a personal art tour.

Go and experience it for yourself..Ask for Travis he will guide to find the right piece that will inspire you..He was amazing..

The place is nicely lit, with soft music playing in the background. When we came here, they had a lot of Rolph Scarlett's work, which are very interesting. The staff are very welcoming and does not discriminate, unlike some galleries. They are very polite, knowledgable and helpful, and they take time to talk to you. They are very transparent with their invoices and have proofs and or guarantee that what you are purchasing is an original. I am definitely impressed. read more
