I see from other comments that her lack of concern for grieving families this is a long standing pattern of behavior. My brother who has been managing my dads burial from a distance did not deserve to be treated in a cruel way. My parents bought three lots, plus two in another section. There have been arguments about whether they were prepaid, which they were, and finally, days before we leave to bury my dad, Elena sends a document asking us to waive our rights in case my recently deceased father was buried in the wrong place, because we could not come and confirm! She included no map or diagram, not letter of explanation. Its been a nightmare dealing with Memorial. We are shipping my dads body from Florida to get him to Memorial to be with my mom and our brother, meanwhile my other brother had a stroke and my younger brother God bless him has been trying to manage all of this. Now I am concerned for his health. That is how bad this has been. May my dad rest in peace finally, in the right grave near my mom and brother. This process has been awful, traumatic and stressful for no good reason. Ms. E, your ego is getting in the way of you doing the right thing by families needing comfort. Shame on you. . Jane N.

I did price shopping. Scott Funeral Home was quick to match local prices. The memorial involved a church, then the cemetery, then a restaurant. They worked closely with me on planning the details, and helping with newspaper notifications, thank you cards, and the like. Our family chose cremation. The cremation facilities are in another suburb. I let our contact know that I wished to drive along to accompany my father's body as it was transported to the facility. When I arrived for this, they instructed me to follow the hearse. I was surprised when another Scott Funeral Home vehicle pulled up behind me. They made it a funeral procession! For just one person, just one car, and not even technically part of the funeral ceremonies. While unexpected, I felt it was very dignified, and I was deeply moved. The day of the funeral, our contact was not available and Scott Funeral Home had someone else step in. I was very concerned about this, as I had gone over all the details with the original contact, we had a printing error on the directions to the restaurant that needed to be communicated to the mourners - it seemed to be a fiasco in the making and too much to think about with everything else going on. My concerns were unfounded. The substitute took care of everything smoothly and calmly. It was a great relief for an otherwise difficult day.

While I can't speak for all employees there, the man who worked with my sister-in-law caused so much grief and pain with his hard sell tactics and self-promotion that it made the whole situation much worse. This "gentleman" was very proud of the fact that he followed his father in this business, but all his years in this business must have inured him to the suffering of others. Plus, while I am not privy to the actual financial arrangements, rom what I have been told, the cost was exorbitant. It is so sad that there are people and organizations that thrive on taking advantage of those in their worst hour.

Okay, this review may be TMI. Without the details I cannot fully express how amazing Lloyd Mandel…read morewas to work with. Please read with caution... My dad passed away (peacefully in his sleep) at 12:30 am on a Sunday morning in April. My sister and I arrived at his apartment shortly after 1:00 am, the paramedics had gone and the police were still there. They took my ID and a few minutes later an officer hands me a piece of paper. He then tells me that my father's body is released to me and the police leave. Much to my surprise the City of Chicago does not take a body to the morgue or a hospital if it is a noncriminal death. With no will, instructions, life insurance or money, my sister and I had to figure out what to do. We knew Dad wanted to be cremated and we wanted to somewhat adhere to Jewish tradition. After a lot of Google-ing, phone calls and research we found Lloyd Mandel Funeral Direction. Sibley responded to our call center inquiry very promptly (in the middle of the night no less) and they were able to pickup my dad within an hour. From the beginning over the phone to the men that came to pickup my dad, everyone was so respectful, kind, understanding and so sensitive to the shock and sadness we were feeling. They made this experience go as smoothly as possible. I worked closely with our Funeral Director, Sibley, she was amazing, compassionate and understanding. I had a lot of weight on my shoulders as the decision maker/executor in this and it was really important to me to do what I think my dad would have wanted. She made everything so easy on me. They also took such good care of my dad. We opted for a final viewing and my dad looked great. Sibley and Lloyd Mandel made that a really positive experience for my family. They made our final moments with him ones that made us smile. That meant more to my family than they will ever know. My visits to their office were great as well. All of their employees are so caring. This is a really top notch organization. Lloyd Mandel is part of the Dignity Memorial network, so they offer additional services like a 24 hour grief counseling helpline for free. While they specialize in Jewish arrangements they do provide services for all faiths and cultures. Their prices are reasonable and on the low end for the industry. When faced with a traumatic, sudden loss Sibley and Lloyd Mandel handled everything with such compassion. I am very thankful to have found them and sincerely appreciate how they helped my family and me through a very difficult time.
