She really wanted to participate, but we were a little concerned that she may get hurt with all of the older kids running around and being excited about the party. There were two instructors for the class when it started, but one of the female staff named Desi or Dezi (spelling?) soon joined to help my daughter and make sure she could participate and have a great time. She was absolutely amazing with my daughter! She was so involved and really made sure that my daughter was safe and having fun. She singlehandedly made the experience awesome for my daughter and our family. It was my daughter's first time trying gymnastics and she absolutely loved it. Desi/Dezi really went above and beyond. Thank you for a great experience!

I hear of this place every summer but never had the chance til this week. What a great place for kids to enjoy water play. But actually for the entire family too! We went during free swim time from 12-4pm and it was only $10 for ages 3 and up. There's a big shallow kiddie pool with water activities and then 2 water slides on the back side of the park. There's a rec pool that maybe goes to 4.5 ft depth so it's perfect for just enjoying the water when you can't lap swim because the pool is crowded. A large picnic table area can be found in the middle of the center too so you can being lunch and snacks too. There a larger Olympic size pool on the west end of the center that can be used for lap swimming so overall it's great for all ages and swimming levels. We're planning to be here quite a bit for the summer! There's also cabanas to change into and showers to rinse off before and after swimming.

In Ventura, after you take your introductory Pickleball Lessons at Juanamaria Park, this is another…read moreplace you can come to get some practice and experience playing in actual games. When my friends and I completed our beginner level lessons at Juanamaria, we talked about trying the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. We were all a little doubtful we were good enough to hang with the Open Play players. Well, I had to find out. My coach at Juanamaria told me to come here and find Doreen, the woman in charge of Open Play. I found her, introduced myself and told her I wanted to play. There wasn't a game immediately available so, in the process of evaluating me, Doreen gave me what amounted to a private lesson. I was super impressed. It was such a generous gift. I learned a hell of a lot! Doreen immediately ascertained what level I was at and matched me with some players that were cool with playing a beginner. I was really grateful for Doreen steering me into the right game, and also appreciative of the players that welcomed me into their game. Very nice players! As it turns out, you are likely to run into all levels of players here during Open Play. There are a lot of very, very high level players. It's super fun to watch them play! But there are also a large number of average players, eager to improve their game. As far as I could tell there weren't any players worse than me. LOL. But I'm cool with that because everyone I've met at Open Play at Harry A Lyons Park has been hella cool. People are competitive, sure, but not obnoxiously so. Mostly you run into people that are clearly having a good time. Way more laughing at than cursing at their misplays. So, particularly if you are new to Pickleball and wanting to get some practice, I highly recommend checking out the Open Play here at Harry A Lyon Park. Especially if you are worse that me. There's an immediate need for weak players so I can start winning some games! If I could give this place zero stars I would. What's wrong…read morewith this place? Well... Their management is terrible... The facilities are in desperate need of refreshing(you can barely see through the plexiglass) There's no shade for spectators... They no longer allow spectators to bring dogs... (Even though it's outside) They allow too much rough & reckless play (much of which is committed by their 'employees') Many of the referees are rude and unwilling to give any explanation of their rulings (so you can avoid a penalty next time) Overall this place is TERRIBLE. I have 25+ years of soccer experience and I'd rather not play than play here. The ONLY reason this place is still around is the lack of any other local indoor facility.

The lady working the gym today was such a buzz kill. I am all about following the rules and being safe especially in a climbing environment. We were told two rules at the beginning. Harness and shoes must be worn in rope areas and the bouldering area is off limits to 5 and under and that was changing soon. Icing on the cake was the pretentious tone she gave my young son and I by stating that he wouldn't enjoy climbing as he is being put in a harness. Way to set him up for success by saying a negative comment before he even gets to try it. Remember boulderdash staff what you say around kids they absorb. Words have a huge impact. You might "teach" children in your classes but not all children are the same. I've never been to a climbing gym that a manager can go climb with friends and family for hours. She wasn't supervising who was coming in and out and what was happening throughout the gym. When said manager did decide to come around she was randomly yelling at our kids or us for not doing things she never told us about in the first place. One star for the power trip employee with a negative attitude. One star for the cleanliness of the facility. It could use a deep cleaning. Sanitizer stations would be good. The lady working chased and almost grabbed my child for accidentally walking in the restroom with her climbing shoes to wash her hands. Again I understand it's the rules and we followed the rules given. That was one moment a child forgot and a parent was standing up to stop the child from going in. The gym had plenty of beginner routes and top ropes. Boulder area could use improvements. The weight station is a joke. A few free weights and kettle bells crammed in a corner. We will stick with climbing outdoors. After all it is Southern California.

Kim has an incredible ability to teach the fundamentals while also developing advanced skills that prepare athletes to compete at a high level. More importantly, she instills discipline, accountability, confidence, teamwork, resilience, and a strong work ethic--qualities and habits that my sister will carry with her for years to come, both on and off the court. What truly sets Kim apart is how deeply she cares about her players as people. She consistently goes above and beyond for her athletes, especially when they are going through personal challenges. She creates an environment where players feel supported, encouraged, and genuinely valued. It's rare to find a coach who is so invested in the overall well-being of every player on her team. One of the most memorable examples of her dedication was the Hawaii tournament. Kim took it upon herself to organize fundraising opportunities to help families offset the cost of the trip. She devoted countless hours outside of practices and tournaments to make sure as many players as possible had the opportunity to experience something so special. That level of commitment speaks volumes about the kind of leader she is. Lava Volleyball Club has been an amazing experience for our family, and much of that is because of Kim's leadership. She sets high expectations while helping every athlete reach their potential with patience, encouragement, and genuine care. I highly recommend Lava Volleyball Club to any family looking for more than just great volleyball training. If you're looking for a program that develops skilled athletes, strong character, and lifelong lessons, Lava is the place to be. We are incredibly grateful for everything Kim has done for my sister and our family over the past five years.
