One notable aspect is the attentive and friendly service. Unfortunately last night's experience left a bad impression and I'm afraid to say, we do not want to go back. It was Valentine's Day and only a set menu was on offer, for chf 120. The menu clearly listed a set number of morsel pieces for the stated 120 Swiss Francs and that's what they brought us, exactly what was stated on the menu for that price. We were confused, surely if it's 120 per person you would bring us double the amount of pieces stated on the per menu price...? But no, when the bill came they'd charged us CHF 240..! for the food alone. The menu did include Sushi à discretion, but what was on offer on the caterpillar was all same-same, rolls with chopped tartare inside, cheap-looking. The pricing was deliberating misleading and we complained. To their credit, the staff understood and sympathized, and adjusted the bill accordingly. I guess this was a company policy. Very underhanded and shady, my trust in Kai is gone and I advise anyone to avoid them on special days like Valentines, where it's very unclear what the pricing model is. There are other really good Sushi restaurants in town, Kai, and you need to pull your socks up and be on the level if you want to have repeat business. What you did last night suggests you're just out to rip our clientele off, which is very short-sighted.

I was craving some sort of Asian food towards the last leg of my European vacation. I thought sushi…read morewould be a good idea. So, I booked a table at Yooji's but I ended up getting a spot in front of the conveyor belt. There's a Yooji's close to the hotel I was staying at but for some reason this particular location was highly recommended. Service was great. I grabbed plates and plates of sushi from the conveyor belt. Different pricing depending on the plate color. Each plate has a few pieces of sushi (2-4). The table in front of you will tell you the pricing as well as description of each plate when you place the plate on the circle on your right. The quality of fish was alright. Conveyor belt sushi is not meant to be top-quality sushi. I didn't like 2 things I tried: chicken teriyaki nigiri (chicken was dry and the texture was weird), and salmon sushi wrapped in rice paper with cilantro (it was like a Vietnamese sushi. Do you want pho sushi? I didn't finish it). The current conversion rate is 1USD = 1CHF. So with my 6.5 plates of food and a jasmine tea, it was 85+ CHF for 1 person. That's like the price of an omakase tasting menu but it's conveyor belt sushi! It's not a bad place, it's just not worth it. Skip!

So that was sweet of him, but then I guess yes, this restaurant is located in a bit of a "shady" neighborhood. The restaurant looked hip and modern, and I was excited at the touch-screens that popped up at the revolving sushi belt for taking our drink orders. Totally awesome! The sushi was nice--nothing extraordinary--but not terrible, either. I would say good quality sushi at typical Zürich prices.

My first visit to this place was quite pleasant, and after telling an American friend about it, he was all excited to try this restaurant. Unfortunately, my experience the second time paled in comparison to the first. We came late last Saturday (around 8:30 pm), and the restaurant was about half empty. That was nice, so it wasn't overcrowded. However, the food didn't seem to turn over quite as much, so the buffet items were not as fresh and tasty. Some of the fried stuff were hard and definitely looked like they had been sitting in the warming trays for a while. The selection was quite sparse, and the sushi options were almost nil. I felt kind of bad for my friend, but I did warn him in advance not to get overly excited. I would say the food was okay, but not spectacular. And they raised the prices on the weekend special. It's now offered on both Saturday and Sunday at CHF 23.90 per person.

So we sat down in a table of four next to the conveyor belt where the food strolls in and you can take what you want. They don't have tables for two people, so we shared the table with two other girls, which was ok for us, but might be a bit weird for some people. The Sushi came rolling in, but we did have to wait for more to come. They did have other warm Chinese dishes, but we really wanted sushi or California rolls. The staff is still in training, but they really are trying their best and the manager is also very attentive and was very helpful when we asked her to send out more sushi or something sweet. I would recommend to sit in the first two tables next to the food belt. That way you get it faster from the kitchen. The food was really good. Of course the dishes are all westernised I think and I also think they wrote wrong the name of Amaki and Marki...think correct should be Temaki and Maki, but since I'm not japanese I didn't want to tell them about it...who knows maybe in china they say it like this... The only thing I thought was a bit funny, was that the girls next to us asked for some cold tea (or maybe something else), but got it warm instead. They told the waiter to change it, but he really insisted they tried it first, saying it was better hot. In the end they did, but I think he just wanted them to see what was on the bottom of the special little cups he brought...once you put the warm liquid in them, an image of a naked guy appeared at the bottom ;P funny yes, but a bit out of place for me...although the guys in the picture did look hot!

However, it stands to lose it's 4 star rating to 3 stars due to lack of customer ambiance, as I hope this is one-off. Envisioning a Memoirs of a Geisha or Kill Bill effect of going into this restaurant on a Saturday night, but instead landed with the boring parts of Lost in Translation. No court jesters in sight. Just streams of hesitant couples staring at the menu outside whilst walking by, staring at the emptiness of the customer base, looking at me, and walking away. It didn't help that this restaurant is located right across from cablecom and the 'back' part of the main train station, so a bit quiet and kinda spotty feeling at night. However, the restaurant did manage to draw two couples in, probably thanks to me as a token Asian-looking person sitting by the window, advertising the suspicion that perhaps this is an authentically tasty place. However, the food and wonderful service managed to keep me awake and excited for a bit. Since I was torn over choosing the chiriashi, the bento box and sushi, I gave the friendly waitress an interrogation of questions that would make anyone feel exploited. She answered them with great care and detail and gave me very good answers. I ended up with a sushi regular for CHF 30-35 and it was very fresh. If you also want sashimi, I'd recommend to pay 10 francs more and get the Yoshino special. It's probably even shareable between two girls with small appetites (certainly not me)! The menu boasts of an array of cooked/raw Japanese foods, and a vast selection of alcohol and non-alcoholic beverages. I'd recommend this restaurant for those who squirm at the thought of raw fish, as the cooked foods here looks/smells promising. The couple next to me ordered (1) bento box with chicken, which also came with salad and three pieces of sushi rolls (2) chicken teriyaki, which both looked and smelled superb. The smell was so enticing that I was drooling even though I was full with sushi, a strange feeling to combat. I will have to come back and try out the cooked portion of the menu, and hoping for better customer ambiance next time!
