Horrible experience. I went to this place after reading good reviews, expecting to have a good experience. It was horrible from the start. I walked in, said hi to Wei Li about three times until she looked up, on her phone, and greeted me. As she began assessing me during the first initial visit, she said I have too much heat in my body but didn't explain any further on what that meant. When I laid on the massage table for acupuncture, she told me (I kid you not) in disgust, "you're fat and overweight. do you see all these extra fat on your hips?" then began to tell me to lose weight, all the diet talks, and proceeded to touch my legs and exposed my tummy in unpleasant way, like I'm a mannequin, as she prepared to put the acupuncture needles on me, without checking in on how I was feeling. Also reminded me of a mean relative who tells you you're fat at a holiday gathering, that's how she was behaving in that moment. I was in shock, my body was in shock. I couldn't believe this was happening. She body shamed me and she was downright disrespectful. She doesn't even know me or what my health history is. She then proceeded to ask, "Where are you from? Philippines? Oh, you shouldn't be overweight. That country doesn't have overweight problems." Jesus christ, she's still talking?! She was so hyper-focused on my body, then added MICRO-AGGRESSION on top of this. I'm sure she never asked her non-person of color clients where are they from. I felt so objectified, dehumanized, and discriminated by my body, ethnicity, and age (I am younger and felt like she was just talking down to me). It is so unfortunate because I thought I could look up to her as an Asian elder because I'm Asian myself, but no. I was deeply disappointed and sad, to be honest. Health and wellness practitioners really get away with these bullying, verbally abusive to their clients??? So pathologizing and paternalistic.
After she inserted the needles, I was just quiet, in a state of trauma response, and she TURNED OFF the heater, quickly saying, "Are you hot in here? Okay." And LEFT me in the room, with the heater turned off. At this point, I was already tearing up, still in shock by her behavior. When she left the room, I could hear her immediately, turning on a television show and watching away!! At some point I was calling her name, waiting for this to be over, I just wanted to go home but she didn't hear me. Eventually the session was over. I just wanted to pay and leave. She gave me a custom herbal formula for my "too much heat" diagnosis and told me NOTHING about what the ingredients are. All of this felt so transactional, so NOT trauma-informed, and I felt so cheated. I paid $186.50, almost $200 for being disrespected and given very low quality TCM care. Does she think I'm stupid and will let her get away with this? I am a human who didn't deserve this, who is a healer in my community seeking a healer/mentor, and who deserves to be treated with compassionate care. I hope that no one receives this kind of care again from Wei Li. read more
