I felt weird about that because it's dark at that time during January. He said he could do the job in 30 mins in the dark after looking at my photos. His quote was $450. I felt weird about that too. A job you can do half blind in under a half hour for that kind of money? Made me feel like I could do it myself after watching a few YouTube videos. But no...that's why there are professionals in this world. Still...$450!!! I felt pity on myself!!! Okay, he came out, did the job and everything went exactly as he'd said. On top of that, the garage door had never opened so smoothly. I wrote him a check because using a credit card is a very difficult procedure with these guys - and unnecessarily so. You're a business. Make using credit cards EASY. Anyway, the tech was really cool. A good guy. For the life of me, however, I don't see how this job should cost what it did, but my due diligence said that was a common charge. Okay then... Guy knows what he's doing. Call them.

He continued to act unprofessionally by sending me several text messages in a row after I canceled, none of which were necessary or solicited. As a business, they need to realize things happen and people have to cancel. I saved them a trip and gas by having the courtesy to call. If you have to cancel a free estimate appointment, be prepared to experience this as well. Sadly, this is the final text they sent to me, which could easily be interpreted as a mild threat: "And next time, before you share you address, do your research.. that way a person and/or company that you are not happy and satisfied with DOES NOT have your home address." I will be happy to send you a screenshot if you'd like to see it. This is not a lie. No business should EVER respond to a potential customer that way. Totally unprofessional!

We got great service from Open Door Policy early this year. One of the springs on our garage door…read morebroke, leaving us unable to open the door. I called ODP and Sean came out the next day with a crew member to diagnose the issue and prop open the door so I could pull the car out. We needed a new garage door anyway so rather than simply replace the springs we opted to get a new door altogether. Sean did a nice job talking me through the different options for new doors as well as the garage door opener, which was also old and ready for replacement. He was able to get us on the schedule quickly and complete the work, which was excellent. The price was a little bit higher than another quote I got, but the garage door was a different brand so it wasn't an apples to apples comparison, and in any event I just liked ODP more. A few days after installation I noticed a tiny bit of daylight at the bottom of one area of door, probably because the floor underneath was not quite even. So I called Sean to inquire about that and he sent out a crew to replace the standard seal at the bottom of the door with a larger seal at no additional cost. Ever since, the new door has been working great. I plan to use ODP for annual maintenance as well and I cannot recommend them enough for your garage door needs.

The attention to detail was impressive, and Sean was very communicative during the whole process, getting my opinion on the wall mounts and other features where necessary. We have had our new doors for a few months, and they're still as amazing as the day they were installed. A few things that were especially great: - Sean had great communication before the installation. Very responsive and willing to provide multiple quotes for different options. - They have access to lots of cool and new openers and garage doors. We got two wifi-enabled openers on a belt drive, and the doors are insanely quiet. - Their good prices are comparable and in most cases better than competitors. - Sean saw an electrical issue with my current outlet and brought it to my attention. Instead of leaving us empty handed, he let me borrow his extension cord so the door opener would function until we got an electrician to take a look. He even came back by the house to pick up the cord once the issue was resolved. - Sean and Ed were really cool and nice. That goes a long way.

They worked outdoors in the cold and rain to get it done, and in the end I got what exactly what I wanted from the project. My dealings with the administration side of things, on the other hand, left a sour taste in my mouth. They were slow to respond to my initial requests for a quote, and when we finally did connect they acted like I was born yesterday. Their quote was the highest out of all of the companies I had contacted, and I got the "let me talk to my boss" line more than once. I wound up going with them anyway because they were willing to match the lowest offer from another company. When it came time to do the painting they sent one guy. He did good work, but it was really a two man job and he was out there all day. I suspect they just didn't want to pay for a second worker. There was also a miscommunication regarding the back side of the deck stairs, which wouldn't normally be stained but I still wanted done for anesthetic reasons. They tried to sell me on the idea of taking the entire stairway apart to do this. I had to insist that they only do the painting, and they eventually did, but the red flag here should be obvious: More work means more money.

This experience was unexpected, especially since I had previously used Miguel's services to install…read moreseveral cameras, and that transaction went very smoothly. Approximately one year later, I contacted the company to have the cameras reset, as I did not have a ladder tall enough to reach them, and to install an under-cabinet ducted vent hood. The microwave previously installed in that location had already been removed, the duct opening was prepared for the vent hood installation, a 120V receptacle was already in place, and no electrical work was required. All of this was explained before the job was accepted, and I confirmed the quoted cost for both services on two separate occasions. Unfortunately, there were several instances where Miguel did not arrive for scheduled appointments and failed to notify me that he would not be coming. This continued for approximately a week and a half until he unexpectedly arrived one day. He successfully reset the cameras; however, when it came time to install the vent hood, he stated, "The office quoted me the wrong price, and I charge $250 per hour because I am a technician." He also mentioned that his teenage daughter had accompanied him. I had not hired or agreed to pay for an additional person to assist with the work. Miguel then refused to complete the installation at the quoted price and requested an additional amount equal to 100% increase of the original quote, effectively doubling the cost. I declined and paid only for the camera reset service that had been completed. I am disappointed by the lack of professionalism and poor communication. Had there been unforeseen issues or additional work required, I would have understood. However, that was not the case here. If there was a pricing discrepancy, it should have been communicated before the appointment, giving me the opportunity to decide whether to proceed. Increasing the price on the day of service, without justification, is not a professional business practice. Based on my experience and some of the other reviews I have read, this appears to be a recurring issue. Unfortunately, I cannot recommend this company.
