A fantastic place for children to learn as they grow. Love their setting close to a farm, where…read morechildren get to pet animals and go for walks on trails. My children both learned how to spell basic words by the age of 4, along with knowing how to add, recognize shapes and much more. Class sizes are small, allowing for caregivers to provide the right level of attention to every child. Highly recommend this place.

I have been SO pleased with Applewood! We started out at another daycare when our child was just 3…read moremonths old and felt that that place, while warm and inviting, had an unduly high turnover of staff, did not introduce us to new staff members, and were constantly upping the number of babies in their care, at the expense of the babies that were already there. I finally decided to make the switch when I arrived at pick-up and found my eight-month-old, who was quite capable of getting around by rolling and crawling, bound to a Bumbo and trying to access a toy that had gotten away from her. She was so frustrated, and so was I. There were some wonderful caretakers there, but I just knew it wasn't the right place for us. After searching around for a few weeks I stumbled upon Applewood's website and gave them a call. I talked to Tracy for about a half an hour! She was so encouraging, warm, and informed. We visited and it was like NIGHT AND DAY! The baby room was so lovely, with wind chimes and scarves and rocking chairs. Best of all, there were NO swings, Bumbos, or exersaucers designed to prevent baby's natural movements: all the babies just crawl and roll around the carpet to their heart's content! It is amazing to watch babies get the chance to interact with one another in such an organic way. The teachers in the infant room are WONDERFUL and caring, and they make lots of notes and let you know all that your child has been doing that day. They are very well-trained and informed, get opportunities for continuing professional development, and truly seem to enjoy their career path. I enjoy my job, but I do sometimes feel that guilt that comes along with being a working parent. I'm thankful Applewood exists, as it eases so much of that guilt. I know my child is having a wonderful day thanks to the teachers and staff there. Now she's almost ready to transition out of the Toddler Room and it's been wonderful to watch her grow with her playmates. The Toddler room has been similarly awesome. They cook, engage in lots of process art and other process activities, play pretend, and often go outdoors twice a day. It's a little pricier than some other childcare centers, but it's been 100% worth it (and is certainly NOT the most expensive). Highly, highly recommend.

The day care also looked clean and was the most expensive in the area, so we thought that the quality of care will be very high. My son went to the baby area earlier this year for few months. The director is very set in her ways of how to soothe babies, how to make them independent at an early stage. It all sounded good to us and we tried several of the methods. Some methods were good, but my main issue was that there was little love or interest in the child. It was one rule fits any child, if for some reason the child was not doing well, the teachers would let them cry it out for several minutes or till they fall asleep. I saw several infants in this situation and I had discussions with the director. Her stance was that babies will learn and this method is effective. It was very rule based and there was little interest in the child or needs for the child on that day. We did not want our child to grow up in an unloved environment where he was less than 6 months old and have to follow these strict rules. On top of this the director made us feel bad as new parents and somehow made it sound like our son was having a hard time because we were holding him too much or paying too much attention to him. We moved him to another day care and within a day he was happy. We never had any issues that we had in Green sprouts in the new daycare and now he loves going there. I wish we had moved him earlier.

The place is extremely spacious, giving children lots of room to play; and the layout is unique and refreshing. When I came the teachers were warm and attentive and extremely friendly. I felt at ease as soon as I walked in. I do have to say that I am shocked by the negative review by Amanda O. On here. I was shown around and saw the playpens folded up and neatly tucked away; Mats for nap time were all organized in a closet, and toys were in toy boxes. I did not see any toys in cribs. I'd also like to point out that given how many children and toys there are, the place was impressively neat and organized. As for the baby room, I thought it was a great set up! It's its own separate room; confined and set up so the person in there can be attentive to all babies. The only reason we did not go with Ms Darlene's was merely because of distance. Even though we were unable to attend I highly recommend Ms Darlene's!
