I wish that QCSS would get rid of this program and find a better one. This is a warning to all parents, DO NOT SEND YOUR CHILD TO THETHE DISCOVERY LOUNGE BEFORE/AFTER SCHOOL PROGRAM. https://www.thediscoveryloungease.com/ The Director, Cynthia, charged me today (9/23/22) for the TDL  program, after stating that 9/16/22 would be the last time I would be charged, being that I removed my child from the program on 9/2/22 and he has not attended since. I removed my Kindergartener from the program after only about 2 and a half weeks because she contacted me several times for MINOR instances that should have been managed by the "highly trained" staff at the program. Cynthia contacted me with an attitude and a loud tone of voice and even made a personal attack on me verbally. I am a single, working mom and this has caused extreme stress, anxiety and frustration for me. I have to be the mother and the father for my child and I do discipline him and work with him as much as I can at home. I do my best to teach him proper behavior but he is a 5 year old at the end of the day. I truly feel that he was being ostracized and labeled in this program. It's like she was trying to get him out of the program instead of working with him. Some people do not need to work with kids. Cynthia's lack of professionalism has brought me nothing but distress that I am STILL dealing with it since I got charged AGAIN. I cannot afford to be charged for a program that I am not involved in. She has shown ZERO accountability for overcharging me. No empathy at all. I would recommend that people STAY AWAY from this program unless you want to deal with a constant struggle, being contacted at work every day for the smallest things, being personally judged and attacked. Hopefully no other parents have to deal with what I have been through.

The teachers are hoping to begin a Toastmasters club in conjunction with a Gavel Club for the students. One of the goals is to engage the family members of the students to promote better communication and leadership for all!

A new principal is on board, Carmen Concepcion. 3. A new vice principal is also on board, Toyia Matthews. Although I miss Mr. Tampa tremendously! Lots of new things are happening at Oaklawn. However, I would prefer the language immersion be 100% vs. 50%. I have weighed the batte and am moving forward!

Hello friends,…read more Really good school. Not a majority anything, nice and diverse. I like that and was a big reason we chose this school. The children are surrounded by different cultures, ethnicities, races etc. My children have gone here since 1st grade. My son has moved onto the 6th grade so lil sister is still here. The ladies in the front office are very nice and helpful. Beware. If you shouldn't be there or look outta place... They will be on your head & I love it. PARKING can b a bit tricky at peak times. Overflow DURING school can be done in the bus parking lot. The office is in the entrance. Very clean office. Hallways. Cafeteria. I visit my lil lady often (for lunch or classroom visit..... Unannounced) and always see custodians wiping and sweeping. When school is out, it will Always be a pick up line onto Monroe Rd. a few teachers will be out to assist. When you're Almost there they will ask you the child's name Walkie Talkie to another teacher in which will get your child up and ready for pick up!! An off duty officer will be out to hold traffic for cars comming in & out!! They are/has been CMS School of Excellence!! TTFN
