I have a very low opinion of this school for the…read morefollowing reasons: 1) a male child exposed himself to my child and another child at this school. The school did not notify me of this issue - my child had to disclose it to me. When I told the school director about it she effectively did nothing about. Additionally, she did even notify the parents of the other effected child of the situation. 2) My child was vicitimed by a bully in her class for years. This situation resolved itself when they child left. The school's director tried many times to get me to understand that things like this happen with children and that I was blowing it out of portion. 3) My ex-spouse and I were involved in a very nasty custody battle for many years. The school and its adminstration constantly took sides. At one point when I lost custody the school's director effectively told me that the contract was with the other parent and that as such I would not receive any communication about my child and that I would be removed from the email update list and that they would not provide any updates on my child's progress. 4) Very high teacher turnover. The school only has 3 full time teachers and within a couple of years the school fired 3 teachers. 5) many parents fall into social tribes - the child see this behavoir and copy it. I found that child tended to function in groups that excluded other children. Even a teacher at the school who had children at the school were victimized by this type of ingroup/outgroup abuse by other students.

It's such a welcoming place and there's kids of all ages, including all elementary school ages, and you can tell the staff really care about the children. Brandy Roberts, the principal, sets such a positive tone. She's kind, approachable, and always there when families need her! And Mr. Carlos is a total superstar! He's patient, upbeat, and makes every kid feel special. My child always leaves with a smile and a story about something fun they did with him that day. The whole team deserves so much credit for creating that kind of environment.

For the most part, we've had positive experiences with many of the staff and teachers at Oakcrest…read more There are some wonderful individuals who truly care for the kids, and I want to acknowledge that upfront. That said, this review is not directed at them--it's directed at the organization, leadership, and ownership behind Oakcrest. We've had two children enrolled here since 2022 and have paid over $83,000 in tuition--never missing a single payment. We've supported the school, told other families about it, and truly tried to be good members of the community. Recently, our youngest was accepted into a new program, and we gave 35 days' notice that he wouldn't be returning. Unfortunately, I missed the "re-enrollment deadline" by 12 days and was hit with a $200 re-enrollment fee. I take full responsibility for missing the cutoff. But what shocked me was the complete lack of empathy or understanding from leadership. No flexibility. No conversation. Just a cold response quoting a handbook. I wasn't asking for special treatment--I was asking for basic human decency after years of loyalty. To make it worse, the communication around this policy was minimal. We received only one reminder in March--no follow-ups, no texts, no push notifications through the app. And yet, they'll call or message multiple times if your child has a mild illness. So it's not a tech limitation--it's a priority issue. Oakcrest brands itself as a "preparatory academy," but at the end of the day--it's a corporate daycare with a polished image. They're quick to run book drives and food drives (which families support), but when it comes to truly valuing long-term families--they've made it clear where their priorities lie. If you're a family comparing child care options, I'd encourage you to look deeper than the branding. Our experience has been a harsh reminder that no matter how much time, money, or trust you invest--you're still just a number on a spreadsheet to them. Disappointed doesn't even begin to cover it.

As I pass through the doors of each class everyday, I see great smiles and fun learning activities. I appreciate everyone with their daily effort and cooperation with our kids. I really feel like the staff care about my child and want to help them to develop good habits. My child has learned rapidly - colors, numbers- emotional awareness- since attending the last few months, and this is much different than other programs we were in elsewhere. We are currently in a half day program while waiting for an opening in a full day classroom and so far it is very well worth the wait! I was a student here for all 7 years of my middle and high school education. Worst 7 years of my…read morelife. I was treated so poorly by both students and faculty, and every report I made to the admins was thrown in the garbage. I have epilepsy as well as some other significant medical problems. I was called every slur under the sun, kids would flash lights at me and shine laser pointers in my eyes, try and steal the stuff from my bag, or just straight up tell me I should kill myself because of how "sick" and stupid I am. The parents who volunteered at the school treated me better than any member of staff here. Now my teachers: In my junior year, I had a seizure in my math class. I woke up to a megaphone in my face with my teacher yelling at me to wake up. I was on the FLOOR. THE FLOOR. She also took the device I had managing my heart monitor, because it was a "phone". Said device was not allowed to be more than 6 feet away from me at a time, and I had CLEAR documentation on this. Another one was my history teacher, googling verbatim "how to find a rich husband" and "do pretty women have more advantage in life" while connected to the SMART Board. Last one, my personal favorite! I had an ambulance called on me for a seizure. I was still in postictal state, and my mother had arrived, obviously very distressed. He had the balls to tell my mom I was faking my seizures. How can you say that about someone's kid to their mom's face? It makes me sick. No actions were ever taken for the countless reports and witness statements I put in through administration. I was lied to and told something will be done for sure, and that my concerns were important to them. Funny joke! Don't even get me started on the mental health aspect of this either. I was so fucking drained and deprived of any sort of emotion, and received no support when I asked for it. Instead, they threatened my parents with CPS because they believed I belonged in a mental facility, despite me already being medicated and having the doctors I need. Don't send your kids here. Good riddance.

Brought me back to Kennedy Center's Hall of Nations with all the colorful flags hanging. The receptionist helped me find my way to the greenhouse n I could see security is absolutely present which is a good thing with all the firearms violence happening in the news. Drove around to the well stocked greenhouse thanks to its major contributing teacher who probably supports the FFA (Future Farmers of America) with his paycheck. I must remember to start potting plants now for next year's spring sale to share my overflow to help out. Anyway, the FFA Plant Sale was posted on the Nextdoor Neighborhood app (kind of late in the sale) by probably a parent of a student. For the FFA sale, the greenhouse is manned by a student. I hv to remember to check the school's website for the start of the sale to get annual plants earlier next year. I love the colorful zinnias which I bought a whole bunch! In fact, I bought lots of other stuff too...even small ficus trees for my upstairs sunny room. After the shopping, I saw the tennis courts n they're in great shape n open (I think) to the public not like MR High's sadly. MR is closer than Cuthbertson but Cuthbertson is my area's high school. The building spread of Cuthbertson seems much more welcoming than MR's exterior view. I hv yet to explore MR. I only know it from driving past its two exposed sides (football field and a closed in tight spread of a few buildings). My friend's 8th & 9th graders seem to be doing well there. My neighbor's kids next door use to go to MR b4 redistricting n they love Cuthbertson more than their experience in MR but I know ea year's batch of students/experiences differ. I think tho if I were able to choose by simply the exterior I'd go to Cuthbertson. Now as far as curriculum that's a whole different thing to consider but since I don't know both can't comment.

They exceeded all expectations, and I am realizing what childcare SHOULD be like compared to the old daycare. Dogwood excels in the following areas that I find important: Communication: The staff is prompt to communicate on all platforms, through the app, email, and phone. Food: they send out the weekly meal plan, and it's always healthy and nutritious food that my son loves. He's a 99th percentile guy, and so he eats a lot and is never hungry when I pick him up (unlike our old daycare). He probably eats better than me most days here! Staff: I can't say enough great things about the management and teachers here. From the moment we walk in, there's a smiling face at the front desk available to help with anything we need. The teachers clearly love what they do, my son loves them so much. After a year of challenging drop off and pickups with tears at the old place, it's refreshing that there hasn't been a bad handoff since the 2nd week. He even tried to go back in after picking him up he likes it so much. Facility: it's a beautiful facility and CLEAN!! Ample parking, and well thought out. Photos: I have received photos every day, to me this is important as the old daycare I was lucky to get 1 photo a month. They even put little text with it sometimes. This makes going to work and leaving my son at school a lot easier. To summarize this very long review, Dogwood is excellent and my only regret is not coming here sooner. We do drive 10 minutes further because we feel the level of care our son receives is worth it.

The food they serve is healthy and my son loves it. He gets breakfast and lunch each day. All home made right at the school. Their education programming is thoughtful and fun, with themed ideas each week/month that are great. They value sensory learning at a young age and keep children engaged as they get older with one on one learning each day. They also have as few plastic toys as possible, focusing on natural materials. Overall we feel like my son is in great hands each day!!!
