Around age 10, I was dress-coded for wearing the same clothes as other girls my age. Because my body was more developed, I was treated differently. This was one of my first experiences feeling sexualized, and I was confused about why my body was treated as a problem. As I got older, the dress code became increasingly strict and focused heavily on girls. I felt women were held to a different standard than young men. The treatment of young women was one of the biggest reasons I struggled there. Instead of being encouraged to explore our interests, strengths, and identities, we were taught how to dress, behave, and make ourselves less distracting to men. I often felt I was being taught to conform to men rather than discover who I was. I also struggled academically and received little to no support. I was diagnosed with ADHD later in elementary school. I spent hours after school completing work and needed multiple tutors because I could not retain material at the expected pace. I often felt the focus was more on academic numbers than supporting struggling students. Another concern was the religious environment. I respect families who choose Christian education, but in my experience, the school went beyond teaching Christianity and created an environment where certain beliefs were presented as superior and certain lifestyles or beliefs were portrayed as wrong or deserving of eternal punishment. Bible classes were required, and religious teachings were part of everyday life. I often felt forced into an identity and belief system before having the opportunity to figure out who I was. I also witnessed inconsistencies between the school's values and how situations were handled. There were also issues with inclusivity involving race, culture, background, and social class. Coming from a different background could be isolating. If you are considering this school, know there can be a disconnect between its public image and the student experience. From the outside, it can appear polished and wholesome. My experience was very different. I experienced an environment that felt hypocritical, rigid, judgmental, and restrictive toward young women. Students deserve to feel safe, respected, supported, and allowed to develop their identities. I don't want another to feel how I did for years.

This school is OK, but not great, I've been here since kindergarten, and some teachers are better…read morethan others, like as of today a teacher (we'll call her Mrs.T) it was picture day and I was getting ready to take my picture, and she Shoved me, no full on shove where I almost fell, and she didn't even apologize she didn't look back. Nothing. but on the other hand there are many teachers that are great, it is getting gradually better there to, as of 2 new high staff members changing things in a good way, there are students who make fun of kids who are weird or strange but mainly that is it. :|

We were given an ultimatum for our child to leave back in August of 23 beginning of school year,…read moreafter 1.5 years there. Supposedly the rude secretary in the front said my wife used a tone (when she would use one with us), and then the same lady tried to get involved in an email with our child and was spreading rumors, etc. I get a call from the Principal on a Monday at 1206pm saying our child leaves today and sign a paper or he is expelled forever. Also our kid had straight As for 22 -23. We had no warning, no nothing. The Principal even went to our Church. Just embarrassing, and they clearly broke their contract as we had NO idea there was an issue. I was just told he didn't think we could move forward and he wouldn't let us sit down or talk or anything. We are not the type of parents to over react, and Boyd runs this thing as a regime. It's really sad. I should have heeded the warnings and known it would be disastrous. He even sent an email put to everyone in 2022 saying his 4th grade son made the 5th grade and up team. This was ridiculous. Clearly it should never have happened from a rules and physical standpoint. When our kid started in Feb of 22' I should have known, as our son is adopted and they made him take more incoming tests than the average student to make sure he could handle the work load. The problem is, now our kid is in Fort Mill schools and it's so much tougher. He is doing well, but Walnut Grove has had a long history of not getting getting children prepared. Ask them what their teacher and student turnover is too..it's astronomical. Just a very very poor experience. Plus, they refuse to refund our thousands saying I signed a form when our kid left and released him, I didn't. Thankfully we are getting advice on how to proceed. Just a horrible experience and unfortunately a school that I would have a very hard time as deeming Christian. The kids who go there are usually the outcasts of a public system. We wanted a Christian education. So so sad it went the way it did. We even sought Christian advice at the church we both went to, and the Pastor there very much said that the Boyd's run it as a regime and they should absolutely refund us and we handled it well. It's just really sad. I could be so much more negative but I'll hold back.

OMS is highly recommended for 6th and 7th grades, but 8th grade is another story, depending on what…read moreteam the students get put on. Our child has only had excellent teachers, and our family has always thought highly of the school district. This is the first school year we have been disappointed in OMS. We can all agree that there will always be teachers that students and parents are not 100% fond of, but this year was different. The number of parents and students complaining about the English I class on a specific team is mindboggling. The students and parents talk to one another, so everyone knows the difference between one English I class and another at OMS and NGC. The parents know one English I class is more demanding and harder than the rest. We know parents complained to the district last year, and the solution was moving those students to a different team, which is why many parents decided not to go to the district this year -- no hope for change. We also know that moving students to a different team was a solution for some students again this year. While the assistant principal has been very active in trying to help with all the complaints, for which all the students and parents are thankful, the principal's lack of action and empathy is a major concern. If a concern is brought to the principal's attention, he quickly dismisses the complaint and offers no solutions or ways to help. It does not matter if 1 or 1,000 students complain about the same issue; he will not stick up for the person(s) on the other end but will always make excuses for what you are trying to bring to his attention. There is a quick answer or reason for EVERYTHING! Do not go to the principal expecting any resolution for problems because he simply does not care and will do nothing. There is no "let me look into this" and get back to you; the conversation is done! This issue extends beyond the current students at OMS. It is about the students who endured a similar experience last year and will face the same challenges after current students leave. The problem is more than just moving kids from one team to another; it is about the quality of education and the learning environment at OMS. If the district truly values the students at OMS, they must thoroughly evaluate the English I course and the teacher. The school's reputation, particularly with 8th grade, is rapidly deteriorating and will only worsen if nothing is done.

CLS is a great place to get an education…read more Yes - the tuition is HEFTY (but about the same as Country Day and Providence Day) and - as a result - most of the student body is very very affluent. There is some diversity - but obviously not as much as some of the public schools. It is a place where students really do know their teachers, and teachers DEFINITELY know the students - you get individual attention at all levels - I feel totally comfortable calling any teacher to get feedback on my kids. Students feel very comfortable - and safe - in the classroom and on the campus. Speaking of the campus - it is beyond beautiful. Prettier than most colleges. Great classrooms, great learning environment. Great environment for the arts. Great (unbelievable) athletic facilities. Since the student body is small - everyone is involved in something - and more are involved in several "things". Not unusual to have a football athlete in a musical, the editor of the poetry journal involved in a sport, and the debate team, etc. Yes the students can be portrayed as "entitled". Hey - at $20k/year - their parents have invested a lot of money in their educations - and probably have money for 2nd homes, luxury cars, vacations, etc. School tries to emphasize community service, diversity programs, and giving back. However - the kids attitudes are formed at home for the most part - don't blame the school if kids appear to be spoiled - blame the parents. I seriously evaluated taking my kids out of CLS for high school and putting them in the neighborhood public school. I actually did some substitute teaching in the upper school - and found the students polite, respectful, and (gasp) actually interested in learning. It's a place where it is cool to be smart, be artistic, be an athlete, perform community service, understand the news, be a science nerd, and to be involved. One of my kids is in college - and said that she does feel that CLS gave her an advantage in college because "she knew how to write, how to study, how to plan, and how/when to ask for help".

We have had one child complete the final grade offered, 8th grade. We still have one child…read moreenrolled. While this charter school once was renowned for high scores it is currently transitioning its focus from academics to a more political based school. Funds, many which come from parents donations, are being spent on unnecessary hires. It is sad to see the downfall of what was once one of Charlotte's finest. But as they say, all good things come to an end. If looking for a charter school, please look at other options or even public schools at this point.

I was a student here for all 7 years of my middle and high school education. Worst 7 years of my…read morelife. I was treated so poorly by both students and faculty, and every report I made to the admins was thrown in the garbage. I have epilepsy as well as some other significant medical problems. I was called every slur under the sun, kids would flash lights at me and shine laser pointers in my eyes, try and steal the stuff from my bag, or just straight up tell me I should kill myself because of how "sick" and stupid I am. The parents who volunteered at the school treated me better than any member of staff here. Now my teachers: In my junior year, I had a seizure in my math class. I woke up to a megaphone in my face with my teacher yelling at me to wake up. I was on the FLOOR. THE FLOOR. She also took the device I had managing my heart monitor, because it was a "phone". Said device was not allowed to be more than 6 feet away from me at a time, and I had CLEAR documentation on this. Another one was my history teacher, googling verbatim "how to find a rich husband" and "do pretty women have more advantage in life" while connected to the SMART Board. Last one, my personal favorite! I had an ambulance called on me for a seizure. I was still in postictal state, and my mother had arrived, obviously very distressed. He had the balls to tell my mom I was faking my seizures. How can you say that about someone's kid to their mom's face? It makes me sick. No actions were ever taken for the countless reports and witness statements I put in through administration. I was lied to and told something will be done for sure, and that my concerns were important to them. Funny joke! Don't even get me started on the mental health aspect of this either. I was so fucking drained and deprived of any sort of emotion, and received no support when I asked for it. Instead, they threatened my parents with CPS because they believed I belonged in a mental facility, despite me already being medicated and having the doctors I need. Don't send your kids here. Good riddance.

Ok, I'm not a student or a teacher at Cuthbertson but I did visit it to purchase greenhouse plants…read more The main entrance is impressive. Brought me back to Kennedy Center's Hall of Nations with all the colorful flags hanging. The receptionist helped me find my way to the greenhouse n I could see security is absolutely present which is a good thing with all the firearms violence happening in the news. Drove around to the well stocked greenhouse thanks to its major contributing teacher who probably supports the FFA (Future Farmers of America) with his paycheck. I must remember to start potting plants now for next year's spring sale to share my overflow to help out. Anyway, the FFA Plant Sale was posted on the Nextdoor Neighborhood app (kind of late in the sale) by probably a parent of a student. For the FFA sale, the greenhouse is manned by a student. I hv to remember to check the school's website for the start of the sale to get annual plants earlier next year. I love the colorful zinnias which I bought a whole bunch! In fact, I bought lots of other stuff too...even small ficus trees for my upstairs sunny room. After the shopping, I saw the tennis courts n they're in great shape n open (I think) to the public not like MR High's sadly. MR is closer than Cuthbertson but Cuthbertson is my area's high school. The building spread of Cuthbertson seems much more welcoming than MR's exterior view. I hv yet to explore MR. I only know it from driving past its two exposed sides (football field and a closed in tight spread of a few buildings). My friend's 8th & 9th graders seem to be doing well there. My neighbor's kids next door use to go to MR b4 redistricting n they love Cuthbertson more than their experience in MR but I know ea year's batch of students/experiences differ. I think tho if I were able to choose by simply the exterior I'd go to Cuthbertson. Now as far as curriculum that's a whole different thing to consider but since I don't know both can't comment.
