My, now husband, and I have a larger more formal event planned out of state but were without an official officiant so we decided to wing it here in DC with a legal ceremony so that a family member could "officiate" our larger gathering. I was referred to Reverend Simmons from a friend of mine who had recently done the exact same thing with an impromptu legal ceremony to compliment the larger event. Reverend Simmons responded very quickly to my emails and calls, she was very accommodating for our time line and choice of location. Reverend Simmons is a non-denominational officiant and was very open to having either a religious ceremony or a secular ceremony. We did not have a ring exchange in our ceremony but it could have easily been included. She provided us with ceremony materials to chose from that were much nicer than many of the other materials that I had seen in looking for ceremony vows. We opted to save the vows we have written ourselves for our family gathering so we used Reverend Simmons' and found her words eloquent and fitting. My husband and I hatched the idea for a DC shotgun wedding about a week prior to the ceremony. We had been working furiously to find a weekend date but between work schedules, finding an officiant and finding a handful of friends that could be our witnesses it was becoming frustrating very quickly. On Monday, June 18th it suddenly occurred to me that we might (just might) be able to pull it off on Tuesday, June 19th. Reverend Simmons and I had exchanged an email or two but had not set anything. I shot her an email Monday afternoon asking about her availability the next day. She responded within the hour with an affirmation of her availability and there it was, we were set! We exchanged several more emails to arrange a time and place, to which Reverend Simmons was graciously accommodating and punctual. We chose an outdoor park location near one of DC's many wonderful monuments, but Reverend Simmons also does larger more formal ceremonies including church ceremonies. I would recommend Reverend Simmons to any couple (gay or straight) looking for a DC officiant, for a last minute ceremony or a planned-in-advance ceremony she is gracious, kind and open-minded. Her prices were very reasonable and we really appreciated her efficiency. Reverend Simmons is registered at the DC Municipal Courthouse as an officiant so all you have to do is add her name to your marriage license. However you can apply for your marriage license without an officiant and add the officiant's name at any time later. We had already applied for our license so all I had to do was add Reverend Simmons' name and pick up the license, Reverend Simmons took care of the rest. I interviewed two planners, and I knew I wanted Vicky right away because I was confident that she could get the job done. She didn't want to be my best friend--she wanted to help us achieve the wedding of our dreams while staying under budget. When we were deciding on what services we wanted her to take care of, she showed us this very detailed list of services, kind of like an a la carte menu. We wanted to keep our wedding planner services at $3000 I think, and so we basically picked and chose which things we wanted her to do. SO SIMPLE. No negotiating necessary. After that, she made it feel like our wedding was the only wedding she was working on. Such attention to detail, with a balance of her suggestions and getting our input so that it would still be our wedding. She was honest and straightforward about what she thought were bad ideas, which made us trust in the things that she was excited about and thought were great ideas. Vicky just has so much experience that--really--every little tiny detail was taken care of, so that on the day of our wedding, all we had to do was get our hair and makeup done and show up at the wedding. (My husband and the groomsmen were actually bored the day of our wedding!) The weeks before the wedding, my friends--who know that I get stressed out managing dinner reservations--were amazed to see me so stress-free! Lastly, and maybe I should've opened with this, as soon as we booked all of our vendors, I knew that the cost of having Vicky as our wedding planner paid for itself. When we were in the process of selecting a wedding coordinator, we spoke with many wedding planners, but after meeting Amanda we knew Remembered Events was the team to go with! We appreciated her positive attitude and how established her processes are. She has always gone above and beyond to guide us as we floundered through the wedding planning process. She has handled an unprecedented situation with such grace and care. My daughter was to start her job in another state a few weeks later and there was no possibility of any of us traveling to DC again for a different wedding date. Lauren (company owner) refused to return the retainer fee and stated she would "reach out to other people on the team to see if they were willing to give up their part of the retainer due to the situation." She then replied a few days later that nobody was willing to do so, which we since have found out she never actually asked her staff that question, only told them that we "cancelled." I would never recommend a company like this, it was shady from the get go. Please save yourself time and money and find a better company to arrange your wedding. I am writing reviews about this place everywhere possible, word needs to get out about this business. We also plan to follow with a lawsuit. Trust me, save yourself the headache of working with a business that is run like this.
