Bonus points for being managed by a group of some of the best people- the staff are really great, and there's a community of regular skaters that make this place a second home for many, not just a facility selling ice time. Helpful fyi: - apparently this rink is cold. I'm a bad judge of this, but I'm good at judging my non-skate friends who come to spectate or who don't usually ice skate. Bring layers to be safe. Comparing to other rinks I would say it's nowhere near as cold as RITs hockey rink at Polissini Arena or Paul Lewis rink, but it's not... warm? -no regular snack bar/cafe here. They have one, but it's only used during hockey games or other special times of high volume/staffing -you can spectate through some smaller panes in the lobby- there's a few chairs/couches and it is warm in there, but it's not set up as a true "viewing" space. During public sessions, the bleachers aren't out, but there are tables and chairs to sit at to put on skates, and a central place to keep your things. -they have scooters/pushers you can use for free for kids learning how to skate -season for this rink is typically only Sep-April, because in the summer this facility also serves as as the admin building for the parks and large newly renovated pool out front which is honestly how most people know about the rink! This rink is one of my favorites in the Roc for it's still somewhat lesser known existence and the casual vibe it maintains as a municipal rink funded by the city. Since it's part of the park, when the weather warmer you can bring a picnic and plan to spend time in nature before or after the ice. This rink is the indoor twin of the outdoor rink at MLK in downtown, but most people don't make that connection.

Cost is $15 and it includes skates while Horizons cost $5. Some of us bought new skates online to avoid wearing used. Once you get over the fact this is an old warehouse and there is no other roller skating rink to go to you become grateful there is somewhere to go to live out your youth . I don't like the metal plates which are part of the flooring as it's not easy to roll over when you travel to and from the rink but the rink itself is fine . It's a decent size to roller skate and it's not overly crowded so it works . Like anything in life it's the perspective and sometimes it's yourself and who you are with that makes or breaks the fun. We had about 10 of us in our party and we had a blast . We went on Thursday night adult night 7-10pm and dj mixed up mostly R&B but told us they would play more 80's when we came back. We plan to go again next month . People skating were smoking and happy .. saw some really good skaters too. This is what I focused on and I'm grateful we have somewhere to go skate among adults every single week is we wanted to. Sadly there are no lockers so plan to bring minimal extras and carry wallet on you. There is a smell of basement or what not but again .. this is only rink we have with adult night so if we focus on the fun we forget the rest ;)

It's the simple things that make me happy: pro shops that have decent open hours, a snack bar with hot beverages, and double bonus points for heaters in the stands (triple points if they're actually on). This facility has all of those, and a warm room/bar to boot. Top notch rink & worth the long drove from our hometown for an away game or training clinic.

Even though this is one of the coldest rinks we have ever been to, staff claimed that they could…read morenot turn on the heaters because it "wasn't cold enough" and that it would melt the ice. The heaters are the standard infrared style that hang from the ceiling and they have shields specifically to prevent it from going toward the ice. Probably just too cheap to turn them on, their excuse was a complete lie. So either they are lying or their crew is incompetent. I'm leaning toward the former. Bathrooms all smell like urine. Bathroom in the locker room just had a urinal, no sink or toilet. White netting around the rink instead of black which makes it harder to see from the bleachers. Ice quality wasn't great - it's cold but the Zamboni didn't do a very good job of filling in the pits, pretty bumpy.

This review is for the ice skating rink which replaces the fountain and reflecting pool at the park…read morein the winter months. The rink is operational from Dec through mid March, as long as temps are above 45 degrees. There is a zamboni that is used to resurface the ice every couple or few hours, keeping it in pretty good shape. The rink is not that large, but it's a good size for an outside rink (as opposed to indoors rinks, which are larger because they are used for hockey). For the past few Decembers, Wegmans has generously sponsored the rink, so that skate 'rentals' and use of the rink are free up until New Years. You just have to wait in the line (which can be long at times!) to get your skates. When renting skates, they have figure-skating-style and hockey-style skates; they also have a wide ranges of sizes from small sizes for kids through all the adult sizes. They are periodically sharpening the skates too but beware that this is a public place and the skates you receive might not be that sharp. For those new to skating, the rink offers 'skate mates' which allow you to hold on to something and keep your balance while learning how to balance on the blades. This is a great option for little kids and adults that need extra stabilization. For 2024, they have a special event where you can skate for free if you bring a canned good for their food drive through Jan 15th. Then after that, the rink continues to operate but switches over to a paid model (prices vary). You can still rent skates or bring your own and just pay to use the rink. Note that if you bring your own skates, you can also get them sharpened onsite on Mondays and Tuesdays. Where to leave your stuff?? It's recommended to change into your skates inside the warming hut, but then take your shoes/boots outside and leave them under one of the tables or benches. Make sure NOT to walk on the concrete sidewalks with your skates on - stay on the rubber mats provided between the warming hut and rink - otherwise the surface of the skate blade can be damaged. There are also nearby bathrooms and the warming shelter includes a fireplace. The location has free parking all around, and at holiday times, coincides with the Rochester Holiday Village - which means it can be busy and parking can be a challenge, but there's also parking in the Strong museum garage.

That is a loss, but second star is removed because the manager who was in charge of admission was not very friendly and did not hand me change instead he put it on the table. Traditionally you hand the change to the person. I was a cashier at stores in past so I know what being friendly means. He has no smiles. What is worse was that he lost another star. This is why I have 2 out of 5 because of his attitude and because of safety. The fire exit doors has a wood stud blocking. That is better than chain locks. But also what is bad is the front door exit blocked with stuff of his. I was going to leave and I noticed all things are blocked so I had to exit at the entrance door. Because of this, that is dangerous. Now, the place itself has shown age. The insulation needs replacement since I see its torn on upper walls and ceiling. Needs repairs. the floor I counted 25 spots or so needs truly sanded and polished with new polyurethane coating on the floor to protect the floor. Of course it is Maple wood in fan pattern for the turns. What is worse is that I was videotaping myself and doing selfies for my website and the owner does not like me doing that but other people were filming the rink themselves with their children! It does not make any sense. This is why he lost this third star. I highly recommend you find another rink. Poor attitude and safety reasons are high on factor for my concerns for you, skaters.
