Amazing Tour and Museum Experience…read more Houmas Plantation House is an amazing place to visit. We started our day early and had breakfast first. There's a simple American/New Orleans-style breakfast buffet with eggs, sausage, and grits, available from 8-10 a.m. The plantation opens at 9 a.m., and the first house tour starts at 9:30 a.m. The house tour lasts about an hour. Our tour guide was very knowledgeable. This was my second time taking the tour, and although the guides were different, they shared the same history in their own unique storytelling styles. Both were engaging and easy to follow. Don't forget to tip the tour guides--they do a great job. After the tour, we walked through the gardens in the morning. It's about a 45-minute stroll at a relaxed pace--walk, rest, and enjoy the scenery. Very peaceful. Later, we went to the Carriage House Restaurant, which has amazing food. The bar is also great--try the Houmas signature drinks, they're delicious. You can enjoy your drink inside or outside, then walk around more or relax. If one person wants to do everything--breakfast, museum and house tour, lunch at the Carriage House, and buy a few souvenirs--expect to spend around $150 or so. Overall, it was a great, peaceful experience, and I highly recommend it.

Al met us at Dale's Trading Post to lead us to the launch point which was a short drive down the road. Don't worry, no off-road experience was necessary to get to the river. The swamp tour itself was fantastic. Al was a very knowledgeable guide and talked about the cypress trees, ecology of the basin, and was full of fun facts about the animals we saw. I very much appreciated that the tour was pretty quiet as it allowed for a more intimate experience with the swamp With minimal disturbance of the wildlife. It was an easy paddle and there was little to no current so I would say this tour is very novice friendly. 10/10 would recommend.

I have been on guided trips all over the country in many different size boats and types of fishing. Troy's communication ahead of time was great, and we had several phone calls to line up all the details. As luck would have it, high winds rolled in for the days we had booked. Troy's new boat is a beast and he was able to put us on the meat 2 days in a row, despite the weather being less than cooperative. Troy is Highly knowledgeable and we had a blast even aside from near constant fish action. We will be booking again.

I'm glad he was because it was such a cool experience. Everything was so personal and easy from booking to check in to bidding our awesome captain goodbye. We had captain Woody and I'd 100% recommend him if you get a choice. He was funny and so knowledgable and his passion for the work they do was apparent. His knowledge of each individual gator was endearing and impressive. Logistically it was only a 30-40 min drive from NOLA and very easy to find. On Woody's recommendation, we went to an adorable restaurant called Spahr's afterword and had some delicious seafood with a view full of gators in their backyard!

They told us to be there 15 minutes before our tour start time and we were there 20 minutes before, but the tour guide was 10 minutes late past the start of the tour itself. We thought we were in the wrong place and tried to get in contact with the tour agency. Got voicemail the first time and it was this random woman's number, but then called the same number a minute later and a guy told us the tour operator was on his way and then needed to pick up the supplies. It seems that they should have communicated that earlier and they should have a better system in place. The launch from the boat area was into a busy area right under the freeway and our guide basically was like hangout there and wait for me. That foreshadowed the rest of the tour for us, he basically was distant from us most of the tour, either way in front or way behind and we were a total tour of four people. There was no discussion about what we would see beyond him showing us alligators. At one point we were in the deeper section and a massive log was in the way, he went over and faced the opposite direction while the four of us struggled to get our kayaks over the log. He told us to go around and we got stuck because it was more elevated on the side and just sat on his phone the entire time while we helped each other. I get we were a group coming together, but it felt like he just told us which way to go, but didn't do any real guiding. We even helped him load and unload the supplies from the kayak. I think this tour company needs to be better organized and train their guides on what they should do to become tour guides.
