History

Established in 2002.

Weber Funeral Home was originally founded in 1852 by Andrew Weber, who operated "Weber Installment House" in downtown Chillicothe. Like many morticians of his time, Andrew got his start by being a local cabinet-maker. In those days, families would go to these men for coffins. From there, these carpenters would expand into full funeral home. Jack Weber, the last of his family to own the funeral home, was convinced that it was the oldest business in Chillicothe as well as the oldest funeral home in Illinois which was still operated by its original family. Weber Funeral Home passed through generations of Weber men before being bought by Greg Hurd in 2002, becoming Weber-Hurd Funeral Home. Mr. Hurd, also being the product of a family line of funeral directors, believes it is important to remember the historic connections the Weber name has in the Chillicothe community.
