A woman on the cruise ship had told me about this place, and that she liked to call ahead and the shop staff would pull outfits for her to try on - wow, talk about service! Prices were a bit high, but that's to be expected in Alaska. When I return to Ketchikan on my next cruise, I'll definitely stop here (and plan to bring an extra suitcase along too)!

The shop is in a less traveled part of town, but was filled with many wonderful items, not the normal generic fair targeted towards clueless tourists. It was still early in the day, so there weren't too many patrons in the shop. The store was quite large for a small town, so we spent a good amount of time walking through the place and browsing the shelves. While I read mostly non-fiction, I was pleased to find a section of fiction books written by local authors. I purchased one that was autographed and plan to enjoy it when I get back home. The staff were very friendly and helpful, and the store was well organized and clean, with the all the shelves clearly labeled. This was the best bookstore we visited during our Alaskan trip.

Maiden Voyage is owned by a young lady who goes to yard sales, estate sales and the like in Ketchikan and the neighboring areas and gets items to sell at her store. From gorgeous oil paintings of the harbor to vintage jewelry to tin signs to a skull necklace to rocking chairs to chest of drawers to the American flag art made with shells to books to plates, this shop sells you Ketchikan. Many nautically themed things are for sale here like shells, glass floats, ship paintings, earrings that look like Mermaid jewelry - no idea what kind of metal but no other way to describe it, see pictures.
