July 9th 2024 Got to the hotel around 3pm to check in Went inside while my wife was in the car with the furbabies (2 older special needs black cats) Started to check in at the front desk(general manager Nick was the one checking me in, no other staff were around only the general manager) Was given a brief summary of the hotel amenities and the surrounding area(new to the area, first time visiting) Mentioned we had made a lil over 3hr drive to get to the hotel Than was asked if any pets were brought with us After saying yes, 2 animals Manager assumed it was 2 dogs Told the manager we had 2 cats Was immediately given some petty looks and comments(we are a dog friendly only hotel, we don't allow cats because it can be more annoying with cleaning and the allergies people can have with cats, etc.) Told the manager I wasn't aware that it was a "dog friendly only" hotel As I had booked through booking.com On the app it said pet friendly nvr "dog friendly only" Which the manager replied with a snarky comment that on the website it clearly states "dog friendly" However due to us driving over 3hrs, the general manager had offered an accommodation of an extra fee to allow the cats to stay($50 per night instead of the roughly 20/30ish for dogs) Excused myself to go outside and talk about the situation with my wife Decided to go with paying the extra since we had already drove such a long distance and wanted to just get checked in and put our belongings and cats in the hotel room and figure out what to do about food. Went inside to pay the full price with adding the additional fees Card was declined multiple times Noticed an authorization fee had pulled from my checking account but not the full price I was supposed to pay Told the manager that on my bank app I just noticed an authorization fee pending Manager went on to say he hadn't received any money yet or even processed the full price for the room Went back and forth trying to explain that I have an authorization fee pending and even showed the manager discreetly in a way without the manager able to see anything else but the pending fee But was told again and again that he didn't receive the money yet and there was nothing wrong on his end and that I clearly didn't understand what was happening and that I was in the wrong(started getting a nasty attitude towards me) Briefly mentioned wanting a refund and to cancel the reservation because obviously something was wrong Even stating do I need to take you to court(after he began refusing to give me a refund as he apparently didn't receive any money yet) Than very quickly cancelled my reservation and denied giving me a refund And began to tell me to call the police if I want, that he doesn't care, and than basically kicked me out and told me to have a great day Leaving me over 3hrs away from home, with no way to get another hotel for the night. The room is like a dream. Windows all around with a lake view, private balcony, huge jetted tub (from which you can enjoy the lake view if you're so inclined), fireplace, large bathroom, huge shower (with TWO shower heads!), tv you can view from anywhere in the room including the tub, very clean, cute decor, and it's DOG FRIENDLY. The staff I encountered were all very friendly, and prompt to answer questions or provide assistance. Nice area, and great location; close to Ludington and Grand Haven. They let our young daughter feed the fish in the tank that is built into the front desk. Spent one night in the second floor corner lake view suite between Xmas and new year. Overall, the room was clean and comfortable. Simple, but sufficient continental breakfast included. Price was good, staff was friendly and accommodating. Even let us check out late as wife wasn't feeling well and I was taking our daughter to a nearby waterpark for the day. Sofa with pull out bed was pretty old and mattress and springs would not have been comfy for a kid older than six. We look forward to returning during warm weather and enjoying the balcony views. read more

It is a shame I must write such a bad review for such a great hotel, BUT, while the experience could have been the best ever... Do not stay in room 111 ever. The hotel has some sort of water cistern which must be refilled every third night at 3 AM for an hour and the pipe goes thru that rooms ceiling. Absolutely impossible to sleep through! I thought a guest upstairs was running their hot tub. When I called the front desk and spoke with the General Manager he was loud, rude and informed me to live with it as there was nothing he could do about it and not to bother him again. In the morning I went to the front desk to complain to him in person but he was gone. The nice lady employee at the desk said she would pass on my concerns to management to attempt to reschedule the time of the flow.This was Tuesday morning. The next morning I spoke with the Desk Manager lady who first told me that they had gone to great trouble to change the flow time to 1:30 am and then proceeded to argue with me and informed me to basically learn to live with it as there was nothing more they would do for me,that they were booked solid and could not offer me another room and that I should deal with it. I dealt with it by checking out 3 days early and going to the new Holiday Inn down the road. The regular employees were as nice and as helpful as they could be, the room amenities, the Montague community, the views, the ducks geese and swans as well as the food were all excellent but the management was the worst I could possibly imagine. They were rude and insulting and I never expected to be treated that way by anyone from Michigan. Shameful attitude, manager had an excuse for every complaint. No problem was their fault. We and no one we know will ever be back there. read more

Great stay! I don't think we've ever stayed somewhere with such great friendly staff. Room was very large , good water pressure and huge soft bath towels and also comfortable beds! Price was great. I would recommend this place. I'd we were to stay again I would get a water view room. Only comment is the carpet could use a cleaning or replacement. read more

This place is like a resort in a small village with parks, beaches, walking trails and local charm. There is no elevator and it's not like a typical hotel. The staff are very friendly. The breakfast was much better than the typical hotel continental breakfast. Coffee and tea are always available. Our room was spacious, clean, very comfortable, lots of light coming in from large windows, a big jetted tub in the room with giant towels. Also, we had a wonderful balcony with wooden reclining chairs and a view of the marina on the edge of the water. read more

Horrible if you are in the first floor room by the front desk. You'll have the breakfast crowd outside your door and you'll hear the front staff talking into the late evening hours. They literally have tables outside your room door! Sleeping in and relaxing is not going to happen in the first floor rooms and you'll have very little privacy as they will hear you. The rooms are slightly dated but decent for the location. The room was clean and the bedding was nice. The "lake view" rooms may not have much of a lake view. They are not all facing the lake with some facing the boat docks. Be warned that the view cost extra and you may not actually have a lake side room. Please tell your staff to keep it quiet after hours and shut down the breakfast outside my door...horrible design for a relaxing getaway! Think twice before booking. I'm sure the few second floor rooms might be slightly quieter but I will not be returning. *PSA - Dog friendly which equals little dogs and you will hear them. read more

I purchased a groupon for an off-season weekend here thinking it would be nice to get away. I just felt like everything was a bit off. 1. Check in was odd. We stood there forever waiting for someone to notice us. It sort of seemed like they hired teenagers to check people in? It took way to long. 2. The room was odd (except for the nice fireplace). It had a stove? Hanging RIGHT above the stove was a wooden frame. It just seemed like it had a lot of junk that didn't need to be in there. 3. Quiet is exactly what you get here. There's pretty much nothing to do in the area (again off-season). I spent the weekend wanting to go home. I would only suggest this place if you want a cheap hotel with absolutely nothing to do. I can't imagine why anyone would drive to Michigan for that though. read more

So, groupon brought me and my boyfriend here in 2011 and we decided to make another wine trip out of it. There were a lot of negatives and positives about the whole experience, but for the price of our two nights it was worth it. The Jacuzzi was comfortable with jets that hit the right spots in my back, the fire place was nice even though it was a bit warm to use it, and the balcony was amazing. We also loved the size of the room. There was plenty of space to put the luggage and recent purchases. There are some great restaurants near by and some antique stores that I liked all within walking distance. The major negative that might potentially keep us from ever visiting again is that our room was right across from the front desk and we could hear everything that was going on in the hotel. We could hear everything the front desk was saying to the checking in guests and people coming in and out of the building. It made it really difficult to relax and enjoy the fire place when you hear other guests cackling in the hallway while getting coffee. The worst part was the huge gap between the door and the floor. It let in so much light and was bothersome at night. read more

We spent two nights here on the Thursday and Friday before the 4th of July weekend. We got a corner lake view room and it was an amazing view and very comfortable. It came with a Jacuzzi hot tub, one queen size bed and a pull out couch. The Jacuzzi hot tub overlooks the water and then there is a regular shower in the bathroom area. This room came with a free continental breakfast each morning which included muffins, bagels, hard boiled eggs, cereal and a waffle maker. So the Breakfast wasn't great but it served it's purpose. There was also coffee, orange juice, tea and milk. This was a pet friendly hotel which was very convenient and they only charged $20 extra per day. The rooms were quiet in the beds were comfortable but one complaint I do have is that the door to the room was very hard to open I don't know if it was broken or why it wasn't operational all the time read more

We booked a stay through Hotels.com. When we checked out of the Inn we were charged an "Expedia Service Fee". Later when I spoke with Hotels.com they told me there should not have been any other fees associated with out stay unless we used any incidentals (which we did not). Weathervane Inn did not have a good explanation to why they charge the fee other than that they had the right. Normally when we book through a third party reservation company we pay "all" fees upfront. What the Weathervane Inn Is doing is charging above and beyond what they negotiated with the third party reservation service. It may not be a lot (in this case $8.32) but if they do It for all there overnight stays it can add up to a tidy profit. read more

Like many others, it was a Groupon deal that brought us to the Weathervane Inn. My boyfriend and I were looking for a cheap getaway to celebrate our birthdays and this fit the bill. In the end, we were VERY happy with our choice. The Groupon was good for any room in the Inn, and we ended up with a corner room with beautiful views! The jacuzzi tub was great, though one of the jets in ours was broken, and the fireplace made the space feel so cozy. We didn't take advantage of the free VHS rentals, but that was a nice touch, as you could view the TV from the bed, couch, and jacuzzi tub. The continental breakfast was a bit disappointing (not much selection) but it still did the trick and held us over until lunchtime. A note about the area: Montague and Whitehall are VERY sleepy towns in the winter. Many businesses had signs stating they were closed until spring. Others were closed on Sundays, or Sundays through Wednesdays (and our trip happened to fall Sunday-Tuesday). It presented a challenge in trying to find something besides fast food to eat for a late lunch on Sunday (we ended up in Muskegon, and even then we had to call around to find someone who was open). But I enjoyed being in a quiet town and taking advantage of all the natural beauty (with Lake Michigan just minutes away and many other lakes nearby). I'd definitely return to Montague in the future, winter or summer. read more

This is a decent B&B, and I found the backyard of the Inn to be charming, with a beautiful boardwalk leading out to a gazebo right on the Lake. Our room was clean, we had a lovely view, and the room had its own deck that allowed us to keep the door cracked and let our dog come in and out as he pleased. The jacuzzi was my favorite part about the room, and it was good size too. The staff is friendly and accomodating but the breakfast was not anything special. Weak coffee, overcooked eggs, sad looking pastries. I love visiting B&B's and find the owners have put their heart into providing a well thought out breakfast for guests. Thankfully I packed snacks this weekend. Montague Foods grocery store is right across the street. It was a nice option to be able to shop there and keep food in the fridge back at the room. The town itself leaves a lot to be desired. There was not much to do/see but we were content reading, taking walks, and enjoying the scenery. I also want to add that I was thrilled they allowed pets, as I find not many places do. This is much appreciated by guests like us who like to take our 'children' with us everywhere. :) read more

Lovely place on the bay with lovely rooms with a balconey, jacuzzi, microwave and mini fridge. Two shower heads too. Comp coffee and tea and hot chocolate and fresh baked cookies come out at 800 pm. Plus a Continental breakfast. Very clean and new. The only complaint I have is that you can hear the people next door talking when they're out on the balcony but there's no way around that it is what it is. read more

My fiancee and I stayed at the Weathervane to have a quiet weekend away from Chicagoland while celebrating his birthday. I can't possibly say enough good things about how awesome the Weathervane was! Our room was huge and so nice! We've traveled a lot and agree that this is one of the nicest hotel rooms we've ever had (outside of a $300/night room in Vegas, but that's not surprising). The jacuzzi tub, fire place, double shower, movie rentals (keeping in mind it was winter and we wanted to be snowed-in), fresh-baked cookies at night and lake view were all really nice touches! We had planned to stay for 2 nights, but because of a blizzard, had to extend our stay a third night. Just as we were getting ready to talk to the front desk about staying another night, we saw a flier on our door offering us 50% off the room rate to stay another night. Perfect! We were also able to use their conference room and free wi-fi for work the next morning, which was a plus. I'm not sure when we'll ever be in the area again, but we'd very highly recommend staying at the Weathervane! read more

After reading some of the previous reviews, I had some concerns about what to expect from this inn, but they far exceeded my expectations. My room was beautiful, spacious and well-appointed. The staff was very friendly and the morning breakfast more than adequate with choices such as homemade waffles, fresh fruits, cereals, breads, rolls, boiled eggs and juices. I understand that in the summer this is a really busy place and makes a special effort to cater to travelers with kids and dogs. In the winter, though, this seems to be the perfect place to spend a few quiet days, with or without a little romance (yes, the jacuzzi tub, double shower and fireplace are fantastic)! Note: I had a Travelzoo voucher so I paid very little for my little getaway, but I felt I was treated every bit as well as if I had paid full price. read more

My husband and I spend a weekend here as a mini-honeymoon after our wedding. Some of the previous reviews surprise me. The place was so nice and the people very friendly. The place is definitely made for couples, with the whirlpool, the fireplace in the room and the 2 shower heads in the shower. The view over the marina was beautiful and the little town charming. The freshly baked cookies every night were my favorite. The only thing I wasn't a fan of were the blinds since they let a lot of light in. We went the second weekend in September and found plenty of activities in the nearby (20-30 min drive) town Mears, if you really want to leave the room. It looks like it has all been said before, but the amenities at this hotel are what makes it great. Our room was facing the boat area and the water. That side of the room was covered with windows and blinds and there was a balcony where we could sit outside. The jacuzzi was right by the windows, so you could get a nice breeze from the window if you wanted it. The fireplace was perfect for the colder nights. The free movie rentals and fresh baked cookies at 8pm were really good. And they had a book with all the menus for nearby restaurants. The room was clean, well appointed and spacious enough for two people. It was great for a couple nights stay and perfect for staying in when the weather outside was a bit too cold for walking around. Had a travelzoo coupon and used it for a Thursday night. Hotel is in a great location, can walk to either town. Our room was on the 2nd floor which is where you want to be as the 1st floor rooms are too close to the front desk and morning breakfast area. Our check in was quick and efficient, the room was great, it came with a bottle of red wine. Breakfast was good. Orange juice was full strength which is not always the case with breakfasts like these. Coffee was a little weak, but I'm not going to knock off a star for that. So for the price we paid, all the amenities along with the balcony and the lake view, I would highly recommend this hotel. read more

My husband and I got the Groupon for the Weathervane Inn to celebrate our first anniversary. I'm glad we did! Our room was better than expected, great amedities. The Jaccuzi and shower all worked wonderfully, unlike some of the other reviews I have read on here. The staff was very friendly and everything was comfortable. They offer Chocolate Chip cookies at 8pm for guests. It made for a great getaway. The town doesnt have too much in it, but the coffee shop near by is AWESOME. I highly recommend a visit. My only complaint I suppose would be that the walls are very thin, so you can hear everything going on in the rooms beside you. I suppose there is nothing they can do, but just something to be aware of! read more

This is a lovely little hotel located in a scenic wonderful small town in Michigan. It has a few things going for it. Apparently there are are beautiful views and jacuzzi tubs. I cannot comment on those things because I didn't have one of those rooms. I had a small corner room with a double shower (with two seats in the shower!) so that gains them a star for being different. But my view was of a wall, and there was an iron burn on the carpet and the very weird microwave/oven thing, which I have never seen in a hotel ever before. This hotel lacks an elevator. I had heavy luggage, because I was on a long trip, and had to schlep it up the stairs. Ugh. The room was loud. There's a balcony on the second floor above the front desk, and voices echo up and into what must be paper-thin walls. I could literally hear every word the front desk guy was saying to customers. Inside my room. With the door closed. They had one of those table-top ironing boards (what monster invented those?) and no table to put it on, which probably explains that iron burn. Also, the iron was cheap and leaked (not unusual in hotels, but not earning them any stars in this Yelp review). I selected "Meh. I've experienced better" because I have indeed experienced better. Much better. But this place was not horrible. I would probably stay there again. The price was okay, and the location is rather pretty. But they could step up their game a little. read more

It's a step away from everyday hussel. On your drive up, as you begin to see the Inn and lake, it truly feels like somewhere different. Some reviews speak about the weathered look on the outside but I felt it added to the charm. From the time you make the reservation to the time you check out, the staff are very welcoming. The Inn and our room was very clean. The room appeared to be recently updated a bit but the large area of mismatch paint on the ceiling was a bit distracting. I didn't use a Groupon but I did use Yelp promotion and requested the corner room which is typically more expensive. I wouldn't say it was a great deal for the accommodations, but it was decent. The breakfast is cold which they tell you when checking in and there is hot tea and coffee in lobby throughout your stay. Depending on the time of year and what things you want to do during your stay should be taking into consideration when booking. The small town businesses have winter hrs and there really isn't too much to do without having to drive to one of the surrounding cities. So if your looking for a winter weekend away to enjoy a room with a fireplace and a hot tub, this maybe a place for you to check out. read more

Overall, just a sub par hotel. Staying in the off-season was still expensive for a hot tub room and you have zero privacy. Didn't realize how small the hotel was and was awkward being right next to where you check in at. It is extremely loud and we had the honor of staying under the stairs, so it was even more loud. The aquarium was a nice addition, but highly overrated. Maybe the high end rooms overlooking the lake are better, but plenty of other hotels to choose from for that. They really need to sound proof these rooms better so you could feel more relaxed and enjoy the hotel room better. read more

The Inn was situated in a nice location right on White Lake, in a very quiet town. My husband and I escaped the big city for some R&R (used a groupon for this trip). It was not a bad deal at all, we thought. It also included a really nice patio overlooking the serene lake! Our experience was good for the fact that we truly escaped the city and had lots of quiet time. However, it was just mediocre for several reasons (here's where the "meh, I've experienced better" 2 yelp stars title comes to play): The Inn and rooms needs a bit of a face lift (i.e. clean or replace stained carpeting throughout, repair/refinish what seemed to be water damage from an upper level hot tub leak, keep the "contemporary" look consistent throughout the rooms and hotel (the style seemed a bit half/half all over), upgrade to flat screen tv's/dvd players in ALL rooms, replace mattresses to a more luxurious/plush bedding). We felt that it was missing a few things to give it the name "...a luxury hotel", and not to mention our backs were very sore upon leaving..... The continental breakfast was just lacking overall, and very congested eating/hallway area. If you need to check out and have to pass by this area in the morning, it's rather difficult since people are gathered here, all grumbling about getting their waffles made. :( Other than that, the cleaning staff was very friendly and helpful, and the backyard grounds/gazebo was pretty! There were also many pretty areas to check out nearby - a scenic drive along Lake Michigan from Whitehall, then South to Muskegon is very cool and would recommend doing while visiting. Also a very nice bike path is steps away from the Inn's front door - very convenient for bikers or runners! I would like to give more stars for the sake of the nice people working there and the quiant location, but I need to give two stars mainly to the not-quite-a-luxury-room-and-Inn-amenities and upkeep, etc. I guess for a groupon deal, it was worth the inexpensive deal (in a Lakeview room). read more

Found this little spot with the help of Groupon and am so happy I did. I wanted to get away from Chicago and this was the perfect spot. The room was great and the jacuzzi was a real plus. I must say, my favorite part had to be either the deck or the walking path just steps away from the Inn. I brought my year-old Pitbull and she had a blast just hanging out on the deck and walking down the path. Since we went at the beginning of October, the fall colors were amazing and the weather was great. I will definitely be coming here again. read more

I was in between a 3 or 4 stars. The staff was very helpful in helping us find drinks and food. They also gave us a free late check out. The room was gorgeous. The fireplace and jacuzzi was relaxing. The jacuzzi did have a yellow film after every use. We had to clean it ourselves before every time we used it. The white towel we used to clean it was completely yellow when we left. The shower was clogged so there was standing water at the bottom. But the double shower heads were awesome. All in all we would come stay here again to get away and relax. read more

Reception desk attendant kept emphasizing how they are an independent hotel operation rather than part of a chain, as though that qualifies them as superior. read more
