In late 2023, we moved to the Rogue Valley Manor (RVM), a licensed Continuing Care Community with…read morewide views, lush plantings and abundant trees. We enjoyed meeting the other residents. However, after 22 months, we left feeling angry, frustrated and hurt. A few months after our arrival, RVM implemented a "points" system for meals, and we experienced months of confusion regard when, where and how to eat. Rules changed daily and communication was spotty. Management made some questionable decisions at this time of massive changes. They fired the Food Service Manager, slashed dining staff hours and permanently shuttered one dining room. The implementation of the points program generated about 40 pages of single-spaced complaints from residents. During this time of unrest, one senior manager remarked, "If residents cannot handle moving to the points program, they should seek professional counseling." We chose to eat 90% of our meals at home but we ran into problems there, as well. That summer, we discovered that our cottage was too hot for us and too hot for the housekeepers, who refused to clean in our heat. We learned that management had ignored a neighbor with the same issue during the prior summer. We worked with that neighbor to document our cooling problems and sent a report to the managers involved. Eventually, with the assistance of the Resident Council President, we received extra insulation and were told, "You will have to pay for any future upgrades to your cottage." Our neighbor waited four more months for the same insulation without a confirmation it was coming. The next summer, we found that the new insulation was not enough to resolve our cooling problem. We submitted another work order but heard from no one until a few days before we left. Our experience suggested problems with basic management. Our tipping point was when I personally experienced unprofessional treatment by staff, including managers--pettiness and hostility--while working on two different projects. RVM says it is "resident-centered" but based on our above experiences, I disagree. One contributing factor may be that CCRC management and resident council leaders do not seem to be aware of Oregon's CCRC Resident Rights laws (ORS 101.115) for independent-living residents. Copies are not given to new residents nor are the Resident Rights referenced in meetings. Resident Rights should be given to all residents and for incoming residents, Resident Rights should be signed off by both parties. Surprisingly, Resident Council leadership told me they were not interested in Resident Rights (the very rights that ensured their roles as advocates for residents). One important Resident Right--residents receiving timely answers to their concerns--was of most concern. One manager told me, "I never read 'those letters' from residents." In conclusion, we did not want to live there for the rest of our lives. It was an expensive mistake.

Like so many other people, our family was in a crisis when we realized Mother could no longer live alone. We thought our only options were to care for her ourselves, or send her to a Nursing Home...we were so wrong! Arbor Place allows Mother to have her own apartment, and the freedom to be who she is. When we visit, we can spend quality time with our Mother now. And we had better call her ahead of time to make plans, because she is very busy with all of the activities and new friends! The decision to have Mom move to Arbor Place has been one of the hardest but best decisions we have made as a family. For all of you who are feeling overwhelmed at the prospect of moving your parents, I hope that you will let the loving staff of Arbor Place assist you. I have written this testimony on Mother's 7 year anniversary at Arbor Place. I can't thank all of these people enough!

I had a truly hard year coming from a Foster Home that was truly horrible and I made the decision to leave. I came to Farmington in hopes to start fresh and I can truly say it has been an amazing experience I love the residents and family members. The upper management has been like family to me..I don't know what I would do with out them. Brooke in the front office. has made me feel like I'm part of the family, she would walk to the end of the earth to help you. Shannon the activities director is so sweet and kind and so very creative, Kat is Amazing and always has an listening ear when u need one..she's always smiling. Sheila my Boss is truly amazing and has taught me so much.. I learn from her every chance I get. So has been at Farmington for 20+ years. And she is one of the hardest working women I've ever met I'm really grateful to have her in my be someone I look up too Shane in maintenance is fabulous he's ontop of everything. If u need him to fix something it's done that day no waiting. He truly does so much he's amazing. So kind...we have Micheal who is so great he's a wellness coed who does the scheduling and he is on top of it he works so much and is always there to help u no matter what . Margaret has been at farm for 30+ years andorders, plans meal and works right along with us making sure that all the residents dietary needs are met. She's amazing and makes the best food. Monica is amazing she has been there very long time as well and she is a cook in her food is top notch. I look forward to coming to work every single day because of these people and the love and the care that they show not only for the residents but for the staff. But not least Joni is a top-notch director couple minutes drives to do what's best for the residents and staff. She's the hardest working woman I've ever met and I'm grateful to be a part of this team. I work along the side of some of the greatest caregivers I've ever met . I have always had a heart for the elderly and have dedicated in my life 25 years to carrying and loving for Residents in Memory Care/ Hospice and there families ensuring the transition goes smoothly and ensuring the residents get the utmost care they need as well as the families are reassured that their loved ones are loved and cared for. I truly feel honored to work here I would recommend this establishment to anybody who has a family member who they are unable to care for and need a loving caring place to bring them. We will love them and take care of them so please come by and take a tour with Kat. Thank you for everything you do for the residents and the love that you've shown me as an employee/family member I feel a part of the team and I can't read about it enough. Much love to everyone.

My friend has her grandmother at this facility, and the care has been very poor…read more Just to list a few things that have been shared with me from her experience at this facility...... She was given a prescribed sleeping medication, two times in one day, causing her to have to be hospitalized because she was almost in a coma. And the staff not only was unapologetic, but extremely dismissive towards her issues that stemmed from it. Her grandmother had an infection, was once again prescribed medication, but was not administered that medication for 6 days, causing her another hospital visit. The director is also extremely unprofessional, after being made aware of a report being filed, proceeded to harass her grandmother and tell her that she was going to be kicked out. Causing unnecessary stress to an already concerned family and my friends grandmother to have a worry over her head that no elderly person, paying to live in a facility, to have to worry about. I could go on, but hopefully, you get the jist of my review of this facility, and be cautious about taking any family member you may care about, to be under the care of Farmington square and their director.

Must admit, the setting, amenities and all that's offered here is perfect for seniors looking to simplify but not sacrifice living life to its fullest. I've been to a couple of these types of communities and this one is up there as far as what's offered. Resort living comes to mind, you can be as relaxed or active as you'd like. There's always something going on as far as activities and excursions...something for everyone for sure. Gor meals there's formal dining, a pub, takeout or room service. Food was decent and the options were terrific - perfect for the senior palate, smaller portions and quite a variety. Fitness programs for every level including a putting green (dont knock it until you've tried it!) My friends mom has been enjoying the local excursions at various attractions and taking in the sights with others who have the same interest. I like that there are cottages as a living option, true independent living with all the amenities of the community. My friends parents love their cottage, and I do too, perfect for the two of them. On this visit they had arranged a veteran's wall with photos of the residents who served...very nice way to pay tribute to the heroes on property. Oh and they also had a fantastic art wall showcasing some of the resident talent. Nice touch. This is exactly the type of retirement living I'd consider for myself or my own parents and it's certainly nice knowing our seniors are living in an active community that's lively and safe.
