While I used to love this place, when they closed their retail store and now only ship through Goldbelly, the quality and beauty of their product has suffered greatly. Gone are the fall cupcakes that were so beautiful that they used to be the centerpiece of my Thanksgiving dessert table. This year when I opened the boxes of cupcakes that I got through Goldbelly at considerable more cost, while I knew they wouldn't be Fall themed, what I didn't know was that the tops would be all smushed and stuck to the saran wrap. Of the 16 I purchased, only 4 survived intact. They tasted fine but sadly, were no long worth the money. I didn't even put them out. They used to have such great customer service, always met my timing for whatever cake I needed and were really a great local business. Too bad that had to end. I love the cakes here. But what I loved more was the ability to go to the store in Fort Lauderdale and pick it up myself. There was a discount as it did not need to be shipped. However, they decided to only sell their cakes on line through Goldbelly. What a disappointment. Especially as the reviews of Goldbelly deliveries are really negative. And of course, they cost maybe $30 more to be shipped, and they are not as fresh and could arrive damaged. Unfortunately, I will not be buying any more cakes from them. Review, storefront visit...I recently visited and had the best customer service experience I've had in a long time. The staff were friendly, accommodating, and went out of their way to help me. Over the past two visits, I've tried several cakes, including the mocha Yule log, peanut butter cake, carrot cupcake, strawberry cake, white cake with berries, and golden cake with fudge frosting. Every cake was perfectly moist with just the right amount of frosting. Each flavor was distinct. As for the buttercreams and fillings they were not overly sweet and he textures were also very smooth. I thought my first couple of experiences with We Take the Cake were an anomaly, but I was wrong. I ordered 2 Cakes to be delivered to 2 different addresses (1 in Maine and 1 in California) for a friend's Birthday. BOTH of them arrived a day late. Goldbelly claimed both packages were delayed due to weather. I called FEDEX and UPS and was told there were not any shipping delays to those destinations this week. Goldbelly told me that We Take the Cake did not send the cakes on time and it was their fault. I am never buying another Cake from these people. They don't care about their customers. I've seen quite a few negative reviews when ordering from here through Goldbelly so wanted to share my experience to not steer customers away from ordering a cake online. I ordered the 4-layer chocolate cake and it arrived on the exact date I requested. Additionally, it was perfectly packaged. The cake was well wrapped and there was extra thick tissue to fill the space between the cake and the box, which kept the cake from moving or being damaged in transportation. FYI I live in California, so it is a long way to go from Florida. I got the birthday chocolate cake and loved that it came with colorful candles, very convenient. The cake itself was delicious! The birthday boy LOVES chocolate and he gave it a 10/10 - loved the cake! So if you're a big chocolate fan it's a great cake. Personally I do like chocolate but am not obsessed with it, so it was honestly too much chocolate for me and I couldn't even finish my slice. It was very decadent. Again, great cake if that's the type of cake you're looking for! OMG we just tasted the mini key lime bundt cakes we gave our wedding guests - they are gonna lose their minds! Well, that assumes they didn't inhale them in their cars leaving the wedding. If they tasted it, they did. We just wrestled the box from each other, promising to eat more later, after breakfast! We ordered a 9" four layer chocolate cake with chocolate filling. The whole top of the cake was covered with cream flowers. It was so rich and so delicious that guests were shouting this out as they ate the cake. Adults. At a wedding. Yes, this was after we ate tons of food. I was concerned we'd run low on cake, given last minute guest rsvp changes. (Hey, it's a wedding - for G-d's sake have the courtesy to rsvp - and do it weeks, not days before the wedding.) I went online and watched a video of Ron Ben Israel cutting a round cake. I did it at the wedding after Vinny did the sign of the cross a coupla times! It worked!!!!! Here's how to get the most out of We Take The Cake's not-to-be-wasted round cake: Cut straight across the cake, about 1/3 in from the edge. Do the same on the other side. Then cut slices on the bias (opposite of how you'd naturally cut the slice) and flip the slice onto the plate. This cake was so cream covered I didn't flip the slices but no one cared or noticed. We wound up taking the center of the cake home! Yesterday I served 5 portions and STILL have more left. The cake is said to serve 20 but that'd be if you made traditional wedge slices. Don't. The cake is so decadent and rich you won't need a hunking piece. Plus it's extra tall so the slices are too. Jean is the wedding coordinator. She kept in touch and kept to her promises. We got the cake and mini bundt cakes delivered to the wedding venue. Intact and beautiful. She charged what we agreed on and she was accountable to answer any questions. I ordered the 4-tier Pink Rose Buttercream Frosted Chocolate Cake from We Take The Cake using 1800Flowers online, and everything worked out perfect! The cake was a gift from me to my grandma for her 94th birthday. She's in Arizona, where it's extremely hot right now (being August!), and I've seen many food, flowers, and other items ruined during delivery because of the extreme heat there. So I was worried about how the cake would make it from the baker in Florida, but it arrived in great condition - no melting or ruining of the decorations. It was shipped overnight via FedEx. It was to arrive on 3/17. We Take The Cake did not ship my cake out in time and I received it on 3/18. It also arrived smashed on one side. I asked Goldbelly for a credit/refund and all they gave me was a $15 credit on my next order. If you are having a cake shipped beware!
