Acadiana Park Nature Station

Acadiana Park Nature Station

(12 reviews)

This is probably my favorite place to get outdoors in Lafayette!…read more I discovered the Nature Station a few months ago, and now I go probably once a week to hike (or, at least get as close as I can to hiking in Lafayette). If you're just looking to hike, you have to park outside of the gates of the campgrounds and follow the trail up to where the building is and the trails/boardwalk begin. The front part of the Nature Station includes a boardwalk loop, and several short trails that offshoot from it that are all in an easy to follow network. What I like to call the "back part" is just across the coulee, and you have to walk across a big bridge to get to it. I usually come to explore by myself and head straight to the back part where there aren't as many people. There's a big 2-3 mile loop in the woods back there, and an interactive meditation exercise along a little trail that cuts the big loop in half. The 2-3 mile loop is really nice, and, like I said, usually there aren't too many people. One part of it takes you up to hike along the banks of the Vermilion River, which I really enjoy. One thing to note is that it can get a little muddy! There can be puddles as high as ankle or lower calf deep in some areas, even several days after it has last rained. So, just be prepared and wear some good water-resistant boots. I would definitely recommend checking this place out! There's tons of wildlife to look at too. Just don't be making my secluded little trail in the back too busy

Nice location and wide open areas convenient to city and nature area. Nice place to relax in…read moreLafayette, LA and get away biking/hiking/walking.

This was such an awesome summer camp! Stay tuned because they will have camp available during other…read moreschool holidays. My daughter did 2-weeks of this camp and she had a grand ole' time! They got karate lessons from David Vincent, went on fun field trips: Young Chef's Academy, Jazzercise studio, New Orleans Aquarium - and were transported in luxurious charter buses. The camp took place was at Jefferson United Methodist Church, which has ample space for all the campers and a beautiful playground for them to play on. The director, Ms. Sarah, had fun projects for the to work on lead by camp counselors. She received two camp t-shirts and we even to to attend a talent show put on by the group at the end of each week. She met new friends and made some unforgettable memories! The camp was so well-organized and the kids were entertained all day. They also encouraged the kids to be reading this summer by providing fun incentives. I did not have these fun summer camps to attend as a child, so I was so thrilled to get her into a variety of camps this summer. This was the first time she did Kids-Possible and she is already asking to do it again next year. Check their website: http://kid-possible.com/ for a schedule of their camps and get them involved! I am a huge advocate of keeping kids busy and active. Sitting, playing video games and watching TV all summer gets them nowhere! So, major hi-fives to the Kid-Possible team for all their hard work and hosting a fabulous camp! It was very affordable for a week-long. You even have the option of paying for the whole summer. The kids just bring their lunch and be ready to have a superb time!
