Rib tips with plenty of bbq sauce, fried chicken wings, collard greens, mac & cheese.
    Bill C.

Is there a food truck anywhere with as likable a name as 'We In The Kitchen'? This time of year they're open Friday, Saturday, and Sundays from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. and then on the other days it's 'We In The Living Room', as they kick back on the sofa for a well-deserved break. The popular order is the plate, which comes with a meat (often it's rib tips, wings, brisket, catfish, links, or oxtails) and two home made sides (potato salad, mac & cheese, collard greens, baked beans, fries, or candied yams). I got the two meat plate with wings and rib tips, collard greens and mac. Everything tasted great - ribs are tender and wings are fried with a batter that makes the crust craggy. Mac & cheese is superior to others, the gooey cheese way better than that runny Cheez Whiz-looking crud that some places offer. Nutritious greens that aren't bitter tasting are my preference and these were just right. Walking up to a food truck, I won't hesitate to make a u-turn if it looks nasty and unbathed. "Be right back...forgot my wallet," I'll say, before slinking away into the night. This particular truck looks well kept and gives the diner confidence that the business has its act together. Proprietor Sarah has a cool, mellow vibe about her and takes pride in her cooking, as she should. Wearing gloves when handling the food is always nice to see too. The truck travels to different locations and caters, but can often be found at 1606 S. Commerce Street near the Arts District and close to Stratosphere. Hours may change to accommodate this beastly 115 degree weather, so check online. Bottom line? As long as they in the kitchen, we in heaven!

Catfish po boy with fried pickles

Where do I start, so firstly they were almost 30 minutes late, after 30 orders they were already running out of food, and then to top that all off it took almost 2 and a half hours to get out food..... so I kept high hopes maybe the quality is worth the wait??? I got a catfish poboy, fried pickles, potato salad. Upon first glance the bun was full of food! It looked great! You maybe get a single pickle worth of deep fried pickles and a half scoop of potato salad. I took a bite of the sandwich and was immediately struck with bad fish taste, so I tore off a bit of fish from the back and you know when your body is like ya don't eat another bite, that's what I got, you immediately got a pungent fish smell and taste, at this point I stopped eating it. The fried pickles were old and cold so you can tell nothing is made fresh to order, they use the same breading and frier as the fish so all you taste is old fish. The potato salad is from a store most likely sams club. Never got to try the Mac n cheese as they were out by the 30th order. My coworker got the collard greens which were pretty good! 2 hrs for this, 2hrs.

Bam Bam Poboy & fried pickles.

I tried the seafood Mac and cheese for the first time, and man, I was mad that I didn't get a bigger portion of the seafood mac and cheese.

And during the other days, I still eat their tacos I think this is a really good truck. I would highly suggest coming here to get some tacos. They have really good Pollo tacos. Also, I love their pollo asada tacos the best. I think the flavor and moistness is hands down the best I've had. My boyfriend loves their Al Pastor and Carne Asada tacos. They have a large assortment of meats to choose from, lingua, asada, birria, abodado, carnitas. More than just a taco truck, they have birria ramen, tortas, carne asada fries. I have not tried any of those yet. During the day you'll find lovely ladies that are helping you at night and I find that it's usually the same guys helping you every night. All the staff that I've seen has been very friendly and very welcoming and eager to assist. It's just a taco truck right next to the Arco gas station. Can't miss it, big red truck. Sometimes there is a wait especially if you come during peak hours, but usually they can get your order in and out within about 10 minutes. They do have a rewards club that you can join. It's 1 point for every seven dollars that you spend. And then sometimes you'll also get text specials and freebies which I enjoy. I think that the food here has a lot of value and it's good portions. Don't miss out on the taco Tuesday special which has two dollar tacos. That way you get to try a few different kinds of tacos.

Tried their Onolicious food at the Full Moon Market event happened in Kapolei residence inn. T'was a fun night at least and glad I found a food truck that caught my tummy's attention. So I let myself immerse with other people who are in line to order something. FOOD. Chicken BBQ - smoky and flavorful. Meat is tender & cook right. The sauce is seasoned right & literally the taste of the bbq flavor is there. Overall texture is appetizing. Spare Ribs - savory flavor but meat is a bit overcooked and dry. I care less on the potato salad as well. Both lunch plate has a bed of rice (which in my opinion ain't cook enough) and tossed salad (they should call it tossed spinach unless they put other fresh veggies in that way it can be call salad). Overall t'was a good dinner. Lunch plates can be shared with other person as portions are hefty. With the service they deliver & the food they serve, it's pretty good and will recommend you folkx to try their kines! Mahalo for reading & happy juandering fellow yeeps!

I wanted to try something different and decided to try Mama's Island Flava a try this time. This time around, I came late to the event so when I went up to order, they did not have my first choice so the nice lady who helped me informed me that the only thing they had left was their bbq chicken and I thing a smothered pork dish. I decided to go with their bbq chicken and I am glad that whatever I wanted to order ran out because this bbq chicken plate was the bomb. It literally was high piled with cut up bbq chicken drizzled in bbq sauce. It was so much food that I was not able to eat the whole plate that night and had to save some for later and then some. The chicken was moist and had nice bbq charing. Would definitely get this plate again when I attend the next What the Truck. Highly recommend!

Bruh, the real magic here is the homemade drive‑through setup!!…read moreIts MFing BRILLLIIIANNNTT and cute and whimsical Af which made me hopeful right off top When I pulled up, there were three cars ahead of me -- always a good sign but also.... a test of my patience. Theres no menu posted, which would lead me to believe that most people are coming here already know the menu you off the top ... but if you're like me, they will come to your window and hand you a menu if you need one .. I needed. But as per usual, since it was my first time, you already know, I went ahead and asked one of the staff members to help me choose my items The very sweet and very young man at the drive‑through was awesome. I asked him endless questions and he offered a smile with every answer Maaadddddd bonus points MY ORDER x2 of each cuz #Greed Chicken taco (comes with cheese, sour cream, etc.) * Adobada "marinade steak" - $3.64 * Quesabirria - $4.68 (Molten cheese + birria taco with crispy corn tortilla) * Birria consomé - 8 oz., $2.60 * Pollo "chicken" tacos - $3.64 I paid about $28 ... with tip $31 Then I pulled ahead to a little orange pole /waiting area to... well, wait of course. And it wasn't long Id say about 6‑8 minutes (not bad). The food came out; they handed me my containers. and ehhhh It felt kinda.... light for all this coin. But we ain't judging books by covers over here, feel me? made it home and opened it up... yeah, turns out it was light -- but not in the way I thought. The food amount for the tacos was decent, but the chips? BRUUUHHHH They gave me 4 chips per plate. 4!!??. Why even bother? Was this a taste test? did they want me to sample it? cuz WTF was this?!? Check my pics if u think I'm lying!! As for the food itself: it was... very ....okay. Nothing to write home about, nothing to throw the phone at. Not terrible. Not amazing. Somewhere in the middle. It's just "okay." Kind of funny, because on Google, people rave like this place is the second coming of birria. HOWEVER --finger wag--On Yelp, the reviews are a lot more grounded -- and in this case, Yelp was right again. of all the sweet natured mediocrity i had to eat....The stand‑out for me was the adobada steak taco. It had the best flavor and texture of the bunch. Everything else trailed behind it Would I go back? Ummmm naw, prolly not -- not because I hated it, but because the level of "meh" just wasn't worth driving all that way. On the bright side: everyone was super friendly. The young man who helped me pick was especially solid. Customer service was the highlight, really. which is a shame the food didn't quite reach the same height. Fun Facts -this place has 2 locations: one on Centennial & one on Cactus Ave. - hours are from about 4:00 or 5:00 PM until ~11:30 PM (closing slightly earlier on Sunday). -They're closed on Mondays. -They're well‑known for their birria / quesabirria tacos, consomé, and chicken tacos. Bottom line: Good vibes and solid service, but the food .... ehhh - shrug- didn't blow the ole socks off. but look, if u stay nearby, maybe swing by to see if your experience is better. If you're driving out of the way, save it for when you're craving birria and don't mind if it's more good‑enough than great.
