We booked a last-minute ticket to see the show at Tango Porteño. You have options to include…read moredinner, snacks/drinks, or just the show itself. We opted for the $40 "show only" ticket. First, the positives: the performers and the live band are insanely talented. The dancing and music were genuinely impressive, and we really enjoyed the performance. The theater looks incredibly grand from the outside and in photos, though it's actually a bit smaller and more intimate once you get inside. However, you should know what you are getting with the show-only ticket. You are forced to sit in a very narrow balcony. The seats are just simple wooden dining chairs (not very comfortable), and the view isn't great. It feels a bit like sitting in the front row of a movie theater, but instead of looking up, you are awkwardly looking down. There is a glass panel with rails around the edge that gets in the way, so even people in the first row of the balcony have to constantly lean forward against the edge of their seats to see the stage below. Floor seating is reserved for those who buy the dinner/snack packages, which presumably offers a much better view. We skipped that because we heard the food isn't great and the wait time between dinner and the actual show is pretty long. A quick tip: the balcony is first-come, first-served. We arrived about 15 minutes before the show started and still had plenty of seats to choose from. There are lots of other tango shows in the city (some much cheaper), and this one is definitely catered heavily toward tourists. But despite the lacking seats and the awkward balcony view, the sheer talent on stage still made for a great night.

We waited at our hotel lobby for 45 minutes, had the Front Desk call and they said they were still making their rounds but would be with us in five minutes. We were finally picked up at 8:30 in an empty van so I'm assuming either the prior bus was full or they forgot about us Anyway, we arrived to the theater and most people were well over halfway, finished with their dinner, so we were seated at a table at the edge of the stage and they quickly tried to get us caught up with everyone else. I wouldn't say that the meal was anything memorable, it was acceptable. We both had the butternut squash soup, and I had the fish special of the day which was Hake and my husband had a steak. There were certain parts of the steak that were a little tough, but overall it was good. You choose a red or a white wine, they bring you a Bellini when you arrive in a bottle of water so you have plenty of fluids. They do bring a pallet cleanser at some point, but they missed us on that. A dessert is included as well, and my husband had the dolce de Leche and I had the pears minus the ice cream. Service is very good, we had two different waiters serving us, but it was a little frazzled since we were so late being brought in The show started promptly at 10 PM and lasted until 11:30 PM. There were three different tango couples as well as some incredibly talented musicians. We were absolutely mesmerized by the accordion player, he is fascinating to watch! There were several singers as well as a man playing what look to be a ukulele, but I know it has a Spanish name. All of these people were incredibly talented. The grand finale was.' don't cry for me, Argentina.' and was incredibly moving and brilliant close to the show. We were back to our hotel around midnight. As our Tour company arranged all of this as part of a package deal, I really do not know how much it cost to go so you will have to check current rates. We went on a Monday night and all seating was filled. We obviously missed the early part of the evening with the tango lesson so you'll have to figure out how to make that happen if that's something that you want to do

I wish the performances or show as a whole followed a structure or spelling Storyline to help them engage their audience. The positives: the food and the ambiance. Whoever was in charge of decoration for this place killed it, it's is so well detailed and you kept it was almost distracting from everything else. The food was the middle ground some amazing bites and some I probably wouldn't order again but the personal hit at the table was the cheese gnocchi and the dulce de leche crepes so if you pass by here make sure to include those two dishes on your list!

Extraordinary architecture, elegant interiors with marble staircases, decorative sculptures, bronze details, and stained-glass windows. The theater was designed to allow opera singers and orchestras to be heard with extraordinary clarity. Look upward to see the colorful ceiling mural painted by Argentine artist Raúl Soldi. Ordering tickets is easy you can order directly on the website or directly at the theater. I went to the theater and was able to buy tickets and got 10th row, just off center, Orchestra seats. The performance was fabulous and Freddie de Tommaso is going to be one of the greatest tenors in the world. It was special to see this performance. If you are in Buenos Aires, don't miss a chance to go to this elegant world class theater. They also have daily backstage tours which I hear are very good.

Our assigned time was 2 PM so we arrived 10 minutes prior and began the lineup process. If you've never toured this theater, I would highly recommend you do so. It is absolutely stunning, so many ornate details to see. We were taken into several different areas of the theater, including the main grand entrance, the theater itself where we were able to sit in one of the box seating and the French styled room where the upper level patrons rest during intermission. Not only did she cover the history, but she also covered many stories of some of their famous attendees, where people sit, including the widows area back in the day where widows couldn't be seen at social functions It's definitely worth your time!

Inside an Armenian cultural building of sorts (for some reason, I dk). It attracts tourists AND locals. They offer many types of dance and once you pay (approx $5ish/300 pesos in Feb 2020), you can stay for as many classes as you like. And after 11:30pm, it is free! Classes are over and it's milonga time! On Friday and Saturday they usually have live bands and it's so entertaining! PLUS, a live TANGO SHOW! Ask for a strong drink and ye shall receive. The service is slowwwwwwwwww. Brace yourself. And brace for the restrooms as well. Nevertheless, bring an extra comfy pair of shoes with you, because your feet will hurt from so much dancing! Lots of nice people to meet and they also run promotions (4 classes for the price of 2). Do keep in mind there are TWO DIFFERENT PROMOTIONS, used on certain nights. Read the fine print! Enjoy!!! :-)

The freestyle tango show was so incredible, I'll be back to see it again. It was so creative! It was like a Broadway show for ARS 400. The venue is cool AF. Yeah it's dingy/dirty. But the prices are super cheap (wine is ARS 75, gin & tonic ARS 180, empanadas ARS 50) and everyone is very inviting! It's hipster cool, which is why an uptight person might not like it. Relax! You are having an authentic experience, despite the tourists! When it's not crowded you can actually talk to the performers and have room to dance. Plus, often there is live music! I felt such a warm welcome and like I said, the tango show was PHENOMENAL! Photos do not do it justice! We came for the show, but apparently they have classes as well. La Viruta is wonderful too, but there's a reason La Catedral is famous!

But the service here is horrendous. The worst service ever. The service is really slow. Drinks take forever after you order. There seemed to be one guy taking and bringing orders and he was a huge jerk. I made the mistake of ordering food, only because I was starving. I ordered the fried rice and it took literally an hour to get to me after I requested it. After 20 minutes I asked about it and the guy said it was coming soon. After 10 more minutes I tried to cancel it and he said I couldn't because it was coming right out. And he wasn't apologetic at all. Super rude. And the fried rice was disgusting. It was just rice and a few veggies fried in a frying pan with no seasoning or flavor. And then when we tried to pay - we had a large number of people in our group - we tried to break a couple of our bills and of course our server said no. So we decided to just sort it out later amongst the group, but he didn't want to even give us back the change that we were owed. He said he would get to keep the balance as tip (which would have been an extremely generous tip). What?!?!? He didn't deserve a tip - service was awful, but to have the audacity to announce that he would keep the change?? I would never come back here, especially since here are so many other milongas in the city.

I'd looked it up online and found that it's more or less a club for amateur and professional magicians here in town, as well as offering classes, and a couple of nights a week, magic shows. And a restaurant. Now, the shows are only Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays, nights that I normally am not available, so this has been sitting deep in a magician's top hat waiting to be pulled out like a dove, for quite some time. And, this week, we just happened to end up with Friday night free, so, date night! It's a pretty old building, with lots of lovely interior architectural detail. I imagine at one time it made a wonderful home for someone. They've divided the public space into two theaters.... Each of the three nights has a different approach to shows. Friday nights goes something like this.... You arrive at 9pm, you're seated in the main room, with a stage at one end. You get a menu, you order - it's pretty simple, basic, local fare. What wasn't made clear to us was the timing. If, and only if, you order appetizers, you get them within a few minutes, and you need to eat up fast (and not arrive late), because at 9:30, you're all asked to get up and move to the other theater, where a magician, down in front of a bleacher style seating area, performs card tricks. It's not all that easy to see unless you're right up front. I would say that his magic was excellent, but his patter and performance skills were pretty lacking - no charisma, and no connection with anyone in the audience except the two people right in front of him, who he spent the whole time directly interacting with as if they were the only ones in the room. Polite applause for the tricks, but a bit of a bore. We were hungry, because we hadn't ordered appetizers, not understanding the setup. But after the thankfully short (30 minutes) show, we were all moved back to our tables in the main room. You really do want to have eaten your appetizers in full, because they've stripped the tables down and reset them for the main courses. It was now 10 p..m., and yes, you have just another half hour to eat, but that's just once your food arrives, you really have less, because dishes come out of the kitchen rather slowly. Not that you can't continue to eat during the next show at 10:30, but it's a magic show, you kind of want to pay attention, you know? The food - very basic, very bland. We got a breaded chicken cutlet topped with unseasoned bechamel and some cheese, accompanied by some sliced potatoes (195 pesos). And we also got an unseasoned and overcooked piece of grilled salmon with some roasted herb potatoes (285 pesos). The potatoes on both plates were the best things there. The second show was far more fun. This particular week, it was a musical, comedy magic duo. Mostly it was a lot of sleight of hand tricks, there was no real splashy magic. Honestly, it was all the kind of tricks that you get in one of those kids basic intro to magic sets. But with a really good routine, fun comedy songs, and two great personalities. Still, I have to admit, I'd kind of hoped for at least one really good, impressive magic trick. This show lasts an hour, until 11:30, at which point you get a dessert menu, and another half hour break, before a final 30-minute show at midnight back in the small theater. We decided we'd had enough and bailed on the last show, so I'm not sure what it involved, but given the setup, it had to be something similar to the card trick stuff - "close up magic". All three shows are a mere 200 pesos, which isn't bad, even for just "ordinary" magic. It's a fun night out, the food, while boring, isn't inedible. You can drink, there's beer and wine. Do review your bill carefully. Ours arrived and was a solid 50% higher than expected. They'd charged us for 3 people for the shows, they'd charged us for a couple of rounds of beers which we hadn't had (just a bottle of wine), and they'd charged us for an appetizer we hadn't had. They tried to pass it off with "oh, those should have been on another table", but a couple of the other tables around us found similar extra charges, so, forewarned and all that. It was more than 500 pesos extra on our bill that they tried to slip in, and it wasn't even sleight of hand.
