Our tour company arranged an evening at the Galla tango as part of our two week South America tour. We were instructed to be in the lobby at 7:15 PM and we're told we would be picked up and delivered to the facility for a tango, dance lesson, dinner and the actual tango show. We waited at our hotel lobby for 45 minutes, had the Front Desk call and they said they were still making their rounds but would be with us in five minutes. We were finally picked up at 8:30 in an empty van so I'm assuming either the prior bus was full or they forgot about us Anyway, we arrived to the theater and most people were well over halfway, finished with their dinner, so we were seated at a table at the edge of the stage and they quickly tried to get us caught up with everyone else. I wouldn't say that the meal was anything memorable, it was acceptable. We both had the butternut squash soup, and I had the fish special of the day which was Hake and my husband had a steak. There were certain parts of the steak that were a little tough, but overall it was good. You choose a red or a white wine, they bring you a Bellini when you arrive in a bottle of water so you have plenty of fluids. They do bring a pallet cleanser at some point, but they missed us on that. A dessert is included as well, and my husband had the dolce de Leche and I had the pears minus the ice cream. Service is very good, we had two different waiters serving us, but it was a little frazzled since we were so late being brought in The show started promptly at 10 PM and lasted until 11:30 PM. There were three different tango couples as well as some incredibly talented musicians. We were absolutely mesmerized by the accordion player, he is fascinating to watch! There were several singers as well as a man playing what look to be a ukulele, but I know it has a Spanish name. All of these people were incredibly talented. The grand finale was.' don't cry for me, Argentina.' and was incredibly moving and brilliant close to the show. We were back to our hotel around midnight. As our Tour company arranged all of this as part of a package deal, I really do not know how much it cost to go so you will have to check current rates. We went on a Monday night and all seating was filled. We obviously missed the early part of the evening with the tango lesson so you'll have to figure out how to make that happen if that's something that you want to do read more

This was a tough one to sit through and I had many mixed feelings about it. The downside of this event sadly for me was the dancing, as someone who grew up as a competitive dancer the technique from the tango dancers themselves were missing on some points through it the routine for various performances. I wish the performances or show as a whole followed a structure or spelling Storyline to help them engage their audience. The positives: the food and the ambiance. Whoever was in charge of decoration for this place killed it, it's is so well detailed and you kept it was almost distracting from everything else. The food was the middle ground some amazing bites and some I probably wouldn't order again but the personal hit at the table was the cheese gnocchi and the dulce de leche crepes so if you pass by here make sure to include those two dishes on your list! read more

Had a nice time. Food was pretty good for a dinner show. Service was a bit odd. Lots of mistakes with what was ordered. Show was nice. We got to see tango dancing as well as more traditional dances. I would recommend if you are looking for a tango dinner show experience. read more

From out of town (Chicago) and had an amazing time at Gala Tango. From start to finish, all of the staff has the upmost professionalism and friendliness. The enthusiasm of the shows artists is only surpassed by the quality of the food they serve. Definitely a must for anyone that it is Buenos Aires. read more

During our 2nd night back in Argentina, our Travel Agent has arranged for us to attend a Tango show here. After a pleasant, but touristy adventure with Fado music in Lisbon a few years ago, we were a little wary. Our evening entertainment was hosted by Gala Tango, which is apparently a smaller more upscale venue. Our package included dinner and drinks, which along with the service was pretty good. We also sat for a staged photo that we later purchased for around $14. As for the show, yes it was a bit touristy. I would have preferred something that was perhaps a little more modern and edgy. There were 3 couples that were dancing tango, plus a male and female lead singer, and a guy who did a great set of gaucho numbers and another who played the Northern Argentina charango with style and passion. Ending the show was an over-the-top finale featuring "Don't Cry for me Argentina" and a lot of flag waving. At first, I thought that I was attended the Argentina version of a schmatzy evening Catskills show. In fact, I was sure that one of the lead singers could probably pull off a version of My Yiddishe Momme with professional aplomb. I soon put my sarcasm aside, relaxed, and watched the show. The good folks entertaining us were fun to watch, fascinating in their dance steps and singing, and with a lot of cool costume changes. And as mentioned before the guacho and charango guys were outstanding. By the end of the show (maybe ~10:30 PM), Gayle and I wandered into the San Telmo evening highly entertained and thankful that we got the chance to sample this cultural cornerstone. The artistic mastery, the technicality, and musicality of this show are simply ineffable. We booked this through our hotel (which I highly recommend you do too) since it's a bit cheaper and you tend to get better seats. They have two different options - one that's a full dinner, tango lessons, followed by the show. The other option (which we chose) was just the show. The entire show lasts about two hours. The dancers are simply stunning. The move with such grace that they look like they are gliding through the air. In addition, they also have a few vocalists that sing like angels. Yes, they do a few numbers the might be over the top theatrical. However, considering the quality of the entire show, I can easily forgive that. All in all, highly recommend this and would gladly come here any time I am in Buenos Aires. read more
