I enjoy this station. I think it's the best M-F beginning in the morning with Richard Chu all day until Patty Vasquez signs off. I listen on the weekends too but am not as pleased with the programming. I like talk radio. Someone said it's an age related acquired taste. I have a hard time watching TV news now it's just too infuriating. They need to improve the quality of the broadcast though it's inconsistent in the audio delivery. read more

I love listening to this station because it reinforces my belief that my choice to leave the Democrat party in 2012 was justified and logical. Today, the drooling leftist host, Edwin Eisendrath, had a lovely 'female' guest on whose name was "Whiner" or something like that. This ''Mensa" member was talking about how fantastic the Carter years were, but failed to mentioned Carter's illustrious track record of 18% interest rates, inflation through the roof, gas shortages with lines around city blocks, and oh yes, his success wlth the Hostage crisis. I know because I lived through it, but I digress. Today, his "whining" guest went on to praise Carter because he was the one responsible for ending segregation between women and men in the armed forces. Well that sure seems odd, coming from the same party who cannot or will not define what a 'woman' is. This guest went on to further express her astute knowledge of biology by stating that "trans women can get pregnant" but she "didn't want to go further into that." So forgive me, but isn't this is the same party that also lectured the planet about 'science" during Covid, yet expects us to believe that biological men can get pregnant? Every morning, I walk sleepily out to my car, about halfway there I start to speed up and hop in, immediately turning on 820 am. Hoping I don't catch it at a commercial break. Growing up listening to constant talk radio like WGN, NPR, The Loop (when it was all talk), wmaq, etc ... I guess I have a thing for driving in cars listening to people yammer on. A friend of mine works here, and finally I started listening to it a couple months ago. Now, it's even on while I work. This election has me all worked up, and I love that this not only inspires me but educates me on current liberal news. Not only that, it cracks me up - I have grown to love Stephanie Miller in the morning...she had to grow on me, but now I find myself parking my car in front of work and sitting an extra minute just to get a bit more in. read more

WCPT has been on the air for a little over the air--its the Chicago outlet for Air America and a progressive/liberal radio talk show venue. I am VERY GRATEFUL for this station - we need more truth and less venom. The announcers on this station actually apologize and correct their errors if they say something erroneously! Although much of the programming is from Air America(Mark Reilly, Rachel Maddow, Al Franken, Randi Rhodes to name a few), WCPT also contracts with Ed Schultz and Aaron Freeman for some other voices and flavors. Very enlightening and these talk show personalities allow discussion and debate on their shows, unlike the conservatives who pre-interview callers. read more

I just came upon this station so I'm not familiar with all the hosts. I'm a conservative, but I'm willing to hear the other side. I agree with Progressives that DT has many flaws and he makes it easy for haters to bash him. However, the liberal media (MSNBC, CNN ABC etc) are so over the top anti Trump biased it's a joke. However, as bad as the mainstream media is nothing could have prepared me for the absolute lunacy I hear on this station. We get the same non stop Trump Bashing you see and hear on MSNBC every evening, but they take it a step further. They seem to be absolutely convinced that Trump will be impeached. But here's where they really took the cake. 1 guest said Trump will be impeached. In 2018 the Democrats will take over the house and senate and in 2020 they will take the White House and keep the house and senate. Really??? Not to be outdone today I heard Trump will be impeached simultaneous as Pence will resign or be impeached so automatically the speaker of the house becomes president. Of course by then the Democrats take over the house so out 46th president will be Nancy Pelosi. We'll here's what I predict. It's probably inevitable that Republicans won't keep all 3 in 2018. Trump will perform his job well in many areas, (enough to brag about when seeking a 2nd term) but overall below average. The main stream media will continue to bash him non stop and enough Americans will more and more not trust the media and Trump will be reelected. From Bill Press to Amy Goodman with Democracy now, we have some of the best progressive voices there are on this station. Especially love listening to Stephanie Miller. With the very dark days that we face with the Trump regime, laughing is desperately needed and that's what Stephanie does with her brilliant call in guest pundits like John Fugelsang, Karl Frisch, Rude Pundit, Dean Obeidallah...and her in studio comedian guests like Dana Goldberg, Frances Callier, Angela V. LOVE THIS STATION! Well, at least "like it a lot." Such a refreshing counterweight to the right-wing lunatics on WLS (once upon a time a truly great Top 40, liberal-leaning station) and WIND. My major complaint is that except for the recent addition of Chicago political expert Dick Kay to the weekend lineup, CPT is way short on local programming, and without local-interest "stars" it can't really make the dent it should be making in Chicago radio. Only EDM station left(Weekends only now) since Energy in the early to mid 2000's Okay, so the top 40 stations have their weekend night remixes starting at 10PM (103.5 later on somewhere between midnight and 1AM), but what used to be a regular all-day, to weeknights only between 9PM-5AM, has now been relegated to Friday through Sunday's(7PM-5AM). For the Sirius Satellite subscribers, this is about as close to Channel 51 BPM as it gets with some songs not played on there. i101(101.1) used to play dance music all day for a minute back in '13, but was canned for what used to be on 88.7(alternative), which used to be 95.5(Smooth Jazz). I love to listen to Stephanie Miller when she is live on the air on this station, when and while i can. With the exception of the host that is on from 2:00-5:00 PM the rest of the shows they air are syndicated talk shows. And interesting enough, even through I haven't been a big listener of his show, they are the only terrestrial radio station that carries the Bill Press Show, as of this year his show is The Young Turks network, so his show is only carried on satellite radio, and you can stream it live either his show's website, or his Youtube channel. And what is great weekday nights when of course the show is live, they re-broast all 3 hours of Stephanie Miller show from Monday night/Tuesday morning to Friday night/Saturday morning. Prior to this year, they could only re-broadcast the first 2 hours, and then would broadcast Thom Hartmann's show for 3 hours, until Bill Press' show started live at 5 AM (central time), and now he only has 2 hours. Sox if you loved waking up with Bill Press and the Stephanie Miller show spending time with both of them, this is the station for you, as there are no other terrestrial radio stations that can say that carry both Bill Press and Stephanie Miller's shows. read more

I am a new listener, glad that your reception is better now than it has been in the past. It bugs me that the fundamentalist stations on the left end of the dial around you and another liberal station are so loud and strong, easy to tune in and stay tuned to because they seem to have lots of bandwidth, while you and other better-message stations are less strong signal-wise. I am a communications professional and a long time civil and women's rights, anti-war, and progressive change activist, currently very involved in the Occupy for Justice Movement, especially through Occupy Naperville (in Chicago West burbs). I find most of the host analysis and interactive discussion I hear on WCPT right on: based on sound information, explained lucidly, argued passionately and civilly. Callers have been treated with politeness and appreciation. Ed Schultz and Norman Goldman strike me as constructive communicators. I haven't had much opportunity to listen to Stephanie & colleague in the morning. When I happened to tune in, what I heard may not have been typical of her. She was being flip and snide, rushing through a bunch of miscellaneous stories delivered in insulting tones with derogatory quips without substantiation. There was a lot of tittering between the female and male broadcast colleagues. I was wondering if I got flipped to Fox. That kind of behavior is not what I expect from intelligent talk radio! It is not what I hear from WCPT at other times. I ask that this type of programming be curtailed. I am also underwhelmed by the Associated Press news casts that I presume you buy. The few I have heard seemed to focus on personality scandals and relative trivia without dealing with the big international and national issues of economic justice, the most important stories relative to problems as viewed by progressives, or the most critical leverage issues for making changes for the better. Please lean on AP to do better at reporting the news by focusing on issues relevant to corporate and government and activist conduct and impacts on the 99%. read more

Thom Hartman @ 11:00 am is the best & most educated in so many fields. If you want to know what's legal & what is not, Norman Goldman @ 5pm is your go to guy, absolutely ! Saturday mornings are great for learning about home repairs. To say this station is presenting intelligent points of view from the left is laughable (check that, I mean sad.) The snarky Stephanie MIller, (angry) Besen and the (boring) guy between Miller and Besen are usually a waste of time, and I find myself changing my radio to NPR. OH yeah, I almost forgot Dick Kay!! This is guy just an embarrassment. Is he even compos mentis? Why can't he just retire with a little dignity? He ain't doin' the left any favors.The only host on this station worth listening to is Norman Goldman - but the station loses it's signal within 30 minutes of his show! It's comical! But Norm Goldman is definitely good. There is generally no real debate with any other these hosts (except for Goldman) and if you remove the spectulations and ad hominem attacks, the hosts usually offer nothing substantive to support their views. If you want good logic, unbiased facts and figures, you're not going to get it from the WCPT hosts. I guess at the end of the day, WCPT is the tallest midget in the (progressive Chicago radio) circus, and that is truly a shame.
