The problem is, it gave me the choice to speak to the station director. I punched that number and it took me to a hold for about 15 seconds and then hung up on me. I called again and pressed the extension for director of programming this time. Again, it put me on hold for about 15 seconds, them hung up. Finally, pressed the number for general voicemail. This time I got a message that said, "we cannot connect you to voicemail." It then promptly hung up again. In the end, I got the hint that they have no interest whatsoever in hearing from anyone in the area. I did end up calling Sinclar Broadcast Group, which owns the station. I spoke with them about the inability to reach anyone at WCIV, or even leave a message. As one of the last generations, age 62, that even watches TV, I want to thank this experience for finally pushing me to tje point of cutting the cord. I watch the internet much more now anyway, and will finally join younger acquainted, who have laughed at my cable bill for years. With 5 televisions, three DVRs and 2 digital adapters, by cutting television and king Internet only, I will cut $250 per month from my budget. Thats a $250 per month raise. I'll take it. One would think that, for the sake of viewer loyalty, a "real" TV station would have at least run a super or scroll alerting its viewers to the fact that they'd better head out to a sports bar, etc., if they wanted to see the game, rather than requiring the viewers to deduce after the kickoff that the game wasn't going to be available on FOX. Naturally, when one calls the station for an explanation, one gets a recording. I even found the "Feedback" email function on their site to be dysfunctional. How very professional.

The name Garden and Gun is explained as an "inside reference to a popular 1970s Charleston disco called the Garden and Gun Club. It is also explained as a metaphor for the South's land, people, lifestyle, and heritage." Today, both Atlanta and Louisville have Garden and Gun Clubs that are extensions of the Garden and Gun Club brand and are affiliated with the magazine. They also have a podcast about Southern culture, at least four books, a Fieldshop shopping experience, a "G&G Society" and more. Garden and Gun has an elevated look and feel to it! It exemplifies sophistication with its masterful use of white space, iconic rich warm sepia tones, and thoughtful layouts! As a BA graduate in Graphic Design, this magazine really appeals to me! Stories range from "The Secret South" to "The Sporting South." I enjoyed their articles on Birmingham Alabama's Chef Chris Hastings and about other Alabama chefs! I picked it up out of curiosity. For me (obviously not a woman), it was just okay. The articles contained topics like pregancy, a mother with a teenaged daughter who wants to have sex, learning to do a handstand, etc. Things I'm not familiar with. Plus I noticed that there were a LOT of ads in the magazine and very few articles. But I guess that's how they keep it afloat and offer it free, right? My friend also loves the magazine for its information on new shopping in town, including what products are available where. For women, I give it two thumbs up, for men...not so much.

The Piccolo Festival hosts art and artists that are more regional in scope, whereas the main festival is International. But there's lots to experience at the Piccolo Festival.
