I went in knowing that I had a wheel bearing needing replacement on the front drivers side. I was quoted that it would be a $90 diagnostic fee. It turns out the diagnostic fee was $190. The diagnosis's came back and I was at a loss for words. I was told that I needed wheel bearing on BOTH the driver and passenger front. I was also informed that the bushings for the control arms needed to be replaced. The cost for this: $2822 plus an alignment @ $125. I informed them that I would be picking up my 2014 Toyota Corolla and doing it myself. I decided to go to Auto Doctors @ 172 Mead Rd Ste C Hardeeville, SC 29927. I told him what was diagnosed by Beachside Auto Care and he said he would diagnose also (No Charge). Jason came back saying that only 1 wheel bearing was bad (the one I thought) and my control arm bushings with showing wear, but did not need repair yet. Total bill from Auto Doctor $425. First let me apologize... this message might be a little long. I usually don't take the time to do…read moresurveys or leave feedback but recent events that left me stranded in Hardeeville, SC and the services I found in this small town left me no choice but to sound off and sing their praises. We were traveling from FL to SC for my cousin's graduation from USMC recruit training at Parris Island and our vehicle broke down as we pulled into our hotel parking lot right off the interstate so luckily we were able to be in doors at our hotel room. I spent several hours dealing with the insurance company arranging towing of the vehicle and researching local auto mechanic reviews online. We took what we thought were the top three that were nearby and made phone calls. It was already past 7pm so we knew most places would be closed but we called anyway. The first call, the phone rang and rang but no answer. Not even an answering machine. The second call, the phone rang and an answering machine allowed me to leave a brief message (which the owner did return the call the following morning). My 3rd and final call to J&C Auto and Disel, the phone rang a few times and when I was expecting to get an answering machine, a person answered. I apologized for calling so late and explained my circumstances and what I felt was wrong with the vehicle. Carmelo explained that he was very busy but if I could get the vehicle to him early during business hours the next day, he would take a look at it. Arrangements were made with a towing company and the vehicle was delivered between 8am-9am. I knew that I was at the mercy of a near interstate mechanic and honestly expected to get shafted on the costs of repair. Carmello called me at aprox. 9:30 the next morning to let me know the vehicle had been delivered and that he had already inspected the problem and ordered the parts. He also said the vehicle whould be ready by 1pm, which was perfect because the graduation ceremony would be over and we would have time to spend with family and the new Marine over lunch before getting back on the road. When we arrived at the shop to pickup the vehicle, Carmello joked and said we needed a new engine. :( I figured this was the setup so a $700-$1000 bill didn't sound so bad. When I asked what the damage was, I was almost in shock. An honest mechanic, charged only for the parts and a true time for labor. Being able to do the type of repair that was required myself, I knew how long it should take and approximately what parts prices a should be but without my tools and having to go to the ceremony, I was at their mercy. They squeezed me in even though they were busy, workmanship was excellent and timely, billing was honest. I wish I could give them higher than 5 stars. Thank you Carmelo and staff at J&C Auto and Disel. *****FIVE STARS*****

Later we received a call saying the problem had been completely fixed. When we arrived, we paid for the repair and were about to leave when my husband decided to quickly check the lights before pulling out of the lot. They still were not working. He immediately went back inside to let them know the issue had not actually been fixed. Unfortunately, they refused to refund us even though the problem we paid to have repaired was clearly still there. So we ended up paying for a service that did not resolve the issue we brought the vehicle in for. I've honestly never experienced anything like this before. If a repair doesn't fix the problem, it seems reasonable that it should either be corrected or refunded. I wanted to share this experience so others are aware.
