Wayland knows his stuff! I have a friend who lives in Boston, bought a 2006 MCS and spoke with Way on the phone way back when & was very impressed with Wayland. FF nearly 20 years and when said friend found out I bought a used 2003 MCS he begged me to have WMW do their own inspection, and told me he'd pay for the inspection himself because he was so impressed. A year into ownership I discovered the passenger side control arm bushing was totally disintegrated and I finally took the plunge and drove a couple Counties south to Way Motor Works. I'm glad I did. He showed me all the different bushings that were failing on the front end and replaced them all with polyurethane bushings, fixed my boogered front passenger spring (newb tip: they are asymmetrical on Gen1 minis), replaced some seals and put a 10% supercharger pulling on for an extremely respectable price. I think he even fixed the rattling HVAC blower without telling me. I had a coworker who has raced amateur for 80% of his life to weigh in on Wayland's commentary during pickup of vehicle and as ornery as my coworker is he didn't have anything to complain about, which is saying a lot if you knew B-Rob. Funny thing is the water level doesn't drop & the engine coolant gauge does not move above dead center--even on 6 hour drives @ 70+ MPH to Virginia. I have had multiple MINI Coopers worked on by him and his staff and every time they've installed a part (exhaust, springs, pulleys, sway bars, etc.) it's always been the right choice for that car. I would put a zero if possible. I contacted way motors about a automatic to manual swap in a 2003 mini Cooper. After talking to them I was under the assumption it was plug and play. Understand prior to doing this the car ran fine with no issues except a blown automatic trans. I sent them the computers and recieved broken and non working computers. Way motors said that's how they received them and did not think I should be contacted and said it was my fault in packing. I had the package insured. They said I could get a refund if I sent them back to them after I paid another programmer to replace and reprogram the damaged equipment. Why would I do that when they already didn't get it right and I paid to get it repaired. Do not trust them. Very poor quality and terrible customer service. They think they are the only ones who can work on a mini Cooper. Buyer beware!!!! read more

I've been bringing my '05 Cooper S to Way for almost two years now. I can honestly say he's the reason I'm holding onto the car (nearing 80K miles!), I know if something goes wrong I can trust him to fix it at a fair price. I know you probably think I'm crazy -- giving a car shop 5 stars? Really? But Way deserves it. Too bad my car came with 3 years/36,000 miles service at the dealer or I could have been going here all along! From a basic "take care of your Mini" perspective -- they are great -- absolute experts and fairly priced. Do they have a fancy waiting area? No -- but they have free wireless and a chair :) and are done so fast you don't care. I once sat at the dealer for 20 extra minutes while my "service consultant" dealt with a phone call -- my car was ready sitting at the door. I could see it. But only she could have me sign and leave. And if you don't feel like waiting, you can just walk down the street to the rock climbing gym and have a little fun :) From a performance perspective -- also experts. My husband got me a little tune for the turbo for an anniversary present -- couldn't be more excited! Price was incredibly fair. There is a reason Way does so much work on this front. I won't take my Mini anywhere else -- they focus on the things that matter -- not an image. Best moment that occurred while I was there -- certain large Atlanta dealer that is off 285 called (guess they didn't realize that everyone these days has caller ID) to inquire as to his prices for various maintenance activities. They know who they need to compete with :) But no way way they can beat Way Motor Works! read more

I have been taking my Mini to Way since 2011 and have never been displeased. This is a specialty shop, and you can tell! They may be a bit more expensive than going to a generic cheap mechanic, but you can feel confident that you are going to a place that will have dealer-or-better quality of work and knowledge without the high, high dealership price. I have gone to a lot of mechanics in my day and I feel a lot better knowing that in Way, I have one I can trust. Way himself obviously knows and loves Minis and is very familiar with their various strengths, weaknesses, and quirks. Since I go to him for all the work on my Mini, he knows and remembers my car and what he's done to it in the past - he even recognized when I had gotten new tires! He is very good about laying out everything that is going on with your car, how much of an issue it is, how long it could be left and what the potential consequences would be, etc. In addition, if you have a difficult or mysterious problem with the car, he doesn't just do stuff to be doing it and rack up charges- he is a real detective on your behalf, sometimes going as far as to contact international contacts/experts to see if they have heard of the problem happening and how they fixed it. Way will always look for the most cost-effective way to repair your car that will really fix the problem; he won't give you a cheap fix that will just buy you a little time (unless you very specifically ask him to do that!) Additionally, as a woman, I have never felt condescended to or ripped off by Way or his staff. Be aware that Way stays busy and you may need to wait to get on his schedule; a wait of a week or so to get in for minor service like an oil change is common. But it's worth it. Also, his shop is a working shop and doesn't have much in the way of luxury waiting rooms, etc., like you'd get in a Mini dealership. (They do offer free wi-fi, though.) However, I'd much rather save the money at my mechanic's and sit in a coffee shop on my own time. Overall, Way Motor Works offers good quality at a fair price. This is not the place to go if you want dirt-cheap everything... but if that's what you want, why would you buy a Mini? Way Motor Works will take care of your investment in your car and charge you much less than the Mini dealers would for an equal quality of work. read more

I'm also a huge fan of Jason the guy who works for him. I know nothing about cars and they are both able to explain complex issues in a simple way that I can understand. Gone are the days of customer service.i purchased a reservoir tank from these guys in feb a little over a month ago. One month later the new part fails so I call them.they let me know that I will need to come back in to have them check it out first before having me go to the dealer to have the part replaced."I'm sorry did I buy the part from the dealer?". I did go in a few days later and showed them the problem.i had decided that I would go ahead and get the upgraded aluminum tank for the difference and was told my only option was to go to dealer to get the standard price of crap tank put on my car!!! What sense does that make? However he was very willing to point out how a list of things wrong with my car and let me know how busy he would be the next few weeks....hmmm. I had a 10AM appointment for service, which I had confirmed via email earlier in the week. At 10:15, business was still locked, no lights on, no answer on the telephone. The guy had no-showed at his own shop! All of my contact info was on the emails we had exchanged, yet I received no call, text or email saying he would be late, the dog was sick, whatever. We purchased a rebuilt supercharger for a mini-cooper in December 2011 from Way Motor Works. The charge for this rebuilt part included an additonal $500 that was to be refunded upon return of the damaged part (they call it a CORE). The core was returned to this business in February 2012. We never received a check or a credit to the original credit card for the $400 refund. During January 2013, after reviewing all of our credit card statements for 2012, Way Motor Works was contacted multiple times - by phone and email. We spoke with an employee who answers the phone and politely explained the problem. He said he would check their records. He later said the owner (Waylen Hunsucker) did remember the part being returned, missing a clip, and that he had refunded us $400. We have asked for a copy of the receipt or cancelled check since we don't think the refund was ever made. After three months of calling, emailing and even posting a BBB complaint, the only response we get is we refunded the money, we don't send any confirmation of credit and we don't have access to any of our credit card records to provide you with proof of the credit. read more

Very unhappy with Way Motor Works. Never will buy from them again. Sold us a leaking water pump and will not refund our money. Now wants us to take the car to the dealer and have them verify and try and get a replacement water pump under warranty. Car will not run without it so we would have to tow the car to the dealer.
