had a deeply distressing experience at Fitness First Bayside Platinum on Monday 19 January 2026…read more The day before, I called the club three times to make a booking, however no one answered. When I later raised this, I was told that bookings are not taken in the morning, which added to the confusion and lack of assistance. On the day itself, while using the pool, I was approached by staff and spoken to in a derogatory and intimidating manner, then publicly admonished and required to leave the pool, despite complying with instructions. This was humiliating and occurred in front of other members. This incident did not occur in isolation. On previous occasions, I have experienced rude and dismissive behaviour from staff, including when my phone would not sign on with the new system. Rather than being assisted, I was offered no help and was labelled "impatient", despite the issue being technical. Over time, these interactions have felt bullying rather than supportive. I am also concerned about inconsistent enforcement of pool capacity rules. I have frequently observed the pool operating with more patrons than permitted without intervention. On this occasion, enforcement felt selective. Following the incident, my membership was immediately suspended based on allegations of aggressive behaviour and verbal abuse, which I strongly dispute. I was not given an opportunity to provide my account before the suspension was imposed. A premium gym should manage issues calmly, respectfully, and with fairness. Unfortunately, this experience left me feeling embarrassed, distressed, and unwelcome. I hope Fitness First reviews its booking systems, staff training, and consistency in policy enforcement so that other members do not experience similar treatment.

I've been a member of this gym for a little over 4 months now. I'm starting to get into the classes…read moreafter finding ones I like and don't feel like a total unco at. You know the ones - BodyStep, BodyJam, and Zumba - where some ripped 20-something stands front and centre and leaps and bounds through the class like her other job is as Britney Spears' backup dancer. There's always someone who tries to outdo the instructor, such as the over-tanned 50 year old in BodyPump who was doing her lunges so far out she was basically doing the splits. The gym is new, it has a swimming pool, and there is plenty of equipment. I HATE to exercise, so joining in the first place was a huge deal for me. This place makes me actually not hate exercise. The staff are always friendly and greet you by name when you arrive/help you out if you ask in classes. If you have an early session, you can even take a free Herald Sun when you leave (or, when you arrive, like some tight people do because they're worried they will miss out if they wait until the end of their workout). Minus one star for: expensive, classes are on at inconvenient times, and they open too late on a weekday (6A.M. is too late when I have to leave for work at 7) and a Sunday (9 A.M. - I've been sitting around nearly 2 hours waiting for the gym to open).

This development has taken a long time but it's great to finally see all brand new gym equipment, clean and large change rooms, more gym classes, childcare options and even a separate mind, body and spirit room! The staff are just as friendly, even as they try to adapt to the huge increase in the number of members. It's still a gym for locals! This site only opened mid-2012 so it's perfecting the group fitness timetable slowly and there is a planned extension for the free weights apparently (it's a little small at the moment).

Average Gym. Overpriced. Awful management…read more I was signed up to Genesis Mentone for a few years, the facilities are good, the machines are generally all working, though the only thing I'll remember about the place was the atrocious customer service. After being lied to on sign up about the terms of the contract, I was lied to by a receptionist either through ignorance or apathy, then told to come in and sort the whole thing out with the manager. Revolting individual, he sat there with a grin on his face and told me, the customer, that /I/ was lying, /that/ never happened and /he/ knew everything that was going on with his business and proceeded to berate and belittle me. If you never have to deal with the manager, it's an average sort of gym, lots of machines. Way overpriced though, there's a cheaper one in southland 2 stations away that have really great staff and facilities.

Oh Westfield... you do get around.. the world, that is!…read more Super deceivingly large mall.... it's not upper crust mall findings, but I did find a stellar cafe! And, being a tourist, it's nice to walk the whole length (and many levels), as a purveyor of culture =) The cinema here would be a lot of fun to patronize... I enjoyed seeing the food offerings outside of the court.. Man alive...food ain't cheap in this country! shocking, although i've been warned many times. The clothing boutiques were pricey, and the styles were not commensurate to their tags. My nephew gloats over the EB Games store for his many systems of squandered, wasted hours of life with eyeballs glued to a telly. I fancied a nice cafe for a large strong, flat white after the miles of walking. Too, the meat pies at some of the more gourmet end shoppes (the ones near the butcher shoppe and the Italian gourmet store!!) caused me to salivate. Think this place spans a block...easily. Simple and straightforward.. think somewhere in nondescript middle of Kmart-land and Nordies/Sak's world.

I used to love Southland when I was younger (18) but when I was in Melbourne recently and went…read moreback, I can barely remember what the appeal was. It is a massive shopping centre, spanning two sections on either side of the road and a walkway over the highway. The walkway and section on the west section of the road was added about 15 years ago so that part is a bit nicer than the "old" section. Wiki tells me there's over 400 shops in Southland and it has a pretty good range for whatever you're looking for. But I would recommend knowing why you're going there because there's nothing worse than realising you need to go to David Jones when you're on the Kmart side. Probably the best section is the walkway as that's where there's the more upmarket clothing brands like Country Road, Witchery etc as well as Mimco and Kikki K. I'm not really a fan of the eating options at Southland - there's a food court and more restaurant-type options near the cinema. There's lots of parking for a shopping centre this size and you probably won't have too much problem getting a spot - undercover parking is the most sought-after in the summer. And it's free parking, so that's good. All up, Southland is ok - definitely wasn't the highlight of my holiday, more of a needs-must place to visit but for the selection of shops, I can't really complain. Note: we had trouble finding a centre directory and had to ask at the assistance counters. I think they have a few touch screens around the place with maps on them.

Blackbird - Fly Gym (aerial yoga) class

This is a badass place in the very best way possible! Located off warrigal road, Blackbird studio…read moreoffers aerial hoop, yoga, hammock and pole classes. There is street parking or parking out the front of the studio and you need to walk through the carpeted hallway to get to the main area as there is no official reception. Once inside you'll see the warehouse has been converted into a studio split into 3 sections. The largest area in the back is for pole dancing with wooden floors then the front area is divided into a social area with carpet and round pillows to sit on and the last part is the aerial hoop and hammock corner. Amenities: bottled drinks, cubby holes, toilets and i think there is a change room though I did not use it. Bring: water, small towel, pair of socks or stripper heels, chalk for hands if you have it and your awesome moves. I tried 2 classes: Pole 1 trickster is a beginner class where you warm you learn a few twirls, twists and floor work and combine it at the end for a mini routine. It was quite challenging as it tested my core and upper body strength and my muscles were sore afterwards. Wear booty shorts and a tank to this class and you may wish to bring a pair of socks or heels to do turns more easily. Aerial yoga was right after Pole 1 and it was more of a stretch class which was great cause my whole body was wobbley after not doing pole for so long! You start off on the mat after hooking in your hammock and then slowly learn to do a few poses and stretches using the hammock. My favourite part of this class was at the end we did bat pose hanging upside down in the hammock and of course the relaxation... yoi basically are in your own private cocoon. Cool studio was strong dancers and instructors who make it look way easy and there is a resident mascot named Murphy the dog who likes to put her nose in your crotch. Try it out, I used bodypass for this and will try aerial hoop next.
