Many summers of my childhood and teenage years were spent at the St Albans pools, laying around gossiping with my friends, splashing boys in the water and just all around making memories to last a lifetime.
I also learnt to swim here when I was 4 years old, by a teacher who taught us that if you couldnt learn to blow bubbles in the water, you'd never swim to the deep end (So true).
During university, my friends and I would go and sweat it out our blood alcohol content from the night before in the aerobics or spin classes, and occasionally hit the gym to tone up in time for summer.
And my mum would come swimming here, or take a water aerobics class in the indoor heated pool when recovering from knee surgery- the same pool that I came to during school swimming lessons every year.
Even with upgrades, the buildings are old, the floors feel kinda gross coming out of the pools, and Ive seen so many saggy boobs in the changing rooms that Im scarred for life. But this place is for the locals. And I never realised, until writing this review, how many memories it holds for me. read more
