After four years of working together, the therapeutic relationship ended during a period of…read moresignificant distress for me. Attempts to address concerns did not lead to repair, and the focus shifted toward protecting the therapist's personal boundaries rather than supporting stabilization or closure. I left feeling blamed for my distress and unsupported at the end of care. This experience was destabilizing and painful, particularly given the length of the relationship. I encourage others with complex mental health needs to discuss in advance how conflict, boundaries, and termination are handled.

I reached out to Coastal Counseling after reading the great reviews. It took days before hearing back from anyone and then after giving my information to the receptionist (?) they said they would reach out to the therapists to see who would want to take us on. Weeks go by and so I follow up and then the person asks me all the same questions again and then says the same exact thing...they'll reach out to the therapists. Another week goes by and then I get a text message asking if we could do an apt 2 hours before I told them my husband gets home from work. Which is not doable for us. Still waiting to hear back....guess I should look elsewhere. There services are probably great, if you can wait around long enough to actually get an appointment with someone.

In addition to her work with our son, Jeanette's parent coaching has been invaluable. As a somewhat newly retired late sixty something male, I have been realizing that I have lost my…read moremotivation, joy, and passion for life and fun. I had a great therapist prior helping me with that, but due to health reasons she had to retire. I floundered for quite a while and figured it was time to find a therapist again to coach me out of my rut. I was especially interested in someone that was trained in EMDR since that was something I hadn't tried. (Trust me, I've tried a lot). I talked to friends and doctors looking for a "great" therapist. I talked to many therapists on the phone and tried one for a few weeks and realized there definitely wasn't a connection. Another trusted doctor gave me a referral to a therapist that she knew was good but it turned out her practice was full at the time. She referred me to Kelly who she also held in high regard. After talking to Kelly on the phone for 10 minutes I had a good feeling and made a face to face appointment. (I personally prefer and appreciate she still does office visits.) My intuition was correct. Kelly is smart, caring, empathetic, and an extremely skilled therapist. I am very impressed how well she listens and remembers what we talked about weeks and months ago. (Not all therapists are good at that). She has many techniques she draws upon and is also good at helping me do the work and hold myself accountable in a very caring and nice way. I really don't understand how EMDR works and it seems somewhat strange but it actually does reduce and disconnect some very old and recent traumas. I don't care about the mechanics, it's working. I've been with her about 6 months now and I'm encouraged how things are heading in the right direction for me. I feel very grateful that I found her. She is one of the "great" ones!

I've been going here for a couple years now, and I've wanted to write a review, but have been…read morereticent for several reasons. The main being that I wanted to leave a decently high rating, but have been unable to due to the unexplained disruption in my care by the high rate of provider turnover, and thus couldn't. More specifically, my experience here has been that I went through several individual therapists, and while I made progress with each, none were really exceptional. Combine that with the what felt like constant provider changes, the overall experience was very lacking, and I didn't feel particularly important due to this. This was especially true in my couples therapy sessions, where I never really felt listened to. Despite my better judgment, I continued to go to these sessions, but I felt like nothing ever changed for me. I recommend that if you find yourself with a therapist you don't "click" with, you should "shop around". Which is what I'm doing now. I do also have experience in their IOP program. I'm afraid to say that I can't really recommend their IOP, and if you do check it out, I highly suggest "shopping around" the same way you would for an individual therapist. Also, quite unfortunately, I didn't feel very accepted there, but instead felt very judged at times, which when happened, it was very difficult to fully share and be vulnerable. Which may be related to one of their main catch phrases, where you're supposed to "get curious" about why you feel a certain way, felt like it was used very little with me. While there are a lot of negatives, it can be very difficult to find providers that take your insurance. Which they did take mine, so that was nice.

I reached out when I felt our son needed someone to talk to about his feelings as he was separated from friends and sports, and overwhelmed with online learning. John was absolutely the best! Since John works with kids, he had a program suited for the pre-teen age group and their emotional needs/communication that didn't feel "childish" to my 10 y/o. After about 2 weeks (1 session a week) , our family dynamic changed for the better. And the next time we saw family, they commented on my son's maturity and communication style being leaps beyond previous encounters. As parents we want to be able to provide everything our kids need, but leaning on a caring outsider like John to provide guidance felt like we invested in our child's well being for life.!
