After four years of working together, the therapeutic relationship ended during a period of significant distress for me. Attempts to address concerns did not lead to repair, and the focus shifted toward protecting the therapist's personal boundaries rather than supporting stabilization or closure. I left feeling blamed for my distress and unsupported at the end of care. This experience was destabilizing and painful, particularly given the length of the relationship. I encourage others with complex mental health needs to discuss in advance how conflict, boundaries, and termination are handled. read more

My husband and I were hoping to take advantage of our insurance covered therapy sessions before the end of the year to have a relationship tune up. I reached out to Coastal Counseling after reading the great reviews. It took days before hearing back from anyone and then after giving my information to the receptionist (?) they said they would reach out to the therapists to see who would want to take us on. Weeks go by and so I follow up and then the person asks me all the same questions again and then says the same exact thing...they'll reach out to the therapists. Another week goes by and then I get a text message asking if we could do an apt 2 hours before I told them my husband gets home from work. Which is not doable for us. Still waiting to hear back....guess I should look elsewhere. There services are probably great, if you can wait around long enough to actually get an appointment with someone. read more

I was never one to be in tune with my thoughts and feelings. I struggled throughout my teen years and saw a few therapists who I could not stand with their overly emotional jargon and unrealistic views. I met Dr. Semmes in my early twenties and cannot imagine where my life would be without her. She's not a therapist that just parrots back what you say and validates all your thoughts even if they are irrational. Dr. Semmes has an amazing way of building relationships (even with unruly, bitchy young people like myself) and finding the correct therapy to address your needs. I had major trauma that I couldn't move past. Dr. Semmes recommended EMDR, a specialized therapy for trauma, and I cannot thank her enough! After a few sessions I finally felt relief. Talking with her always helps me overcome whatever obstacle I am facing. Dr. Semmes has been my therapist over the last decade and I can honestly say I will keep her for life. Originally she was covered under my insurance which made billing/funding easier but even though she's not now, she is well worth an out of pocket expense. read more

Therapy is all what you put in it to help your self, but also to have a therapist that is willing to learn what you need to help pull you from the pits at times and get you back on that path to heal. First off, getting scheduled was really fast. Eran got back to me within 24 hours and even though we kept playing phone tag (he was out of town for a conference I believe), he was more than helpful at helping me set up my first appointment with Casey. I've been seeing Casey for about a month or so now, and she is so personable. She is very insightful and every session I've had with her thus far I feel like I've made progress and/important realizations. She is flexible with her time too - at one point I couldn't make a session until 8:30 pm, but she made it work! Also, the rumors about tea and coffee are true. I have sought therapy with countless therapist over the past 15 years. I started with Coastal Counseling more than 3.5 years ago and I have found the Therapist/s that meet my needs. As stated, I have been through countless Therapists over the years and the professionals at Coastal Counseling truly understand the rigors of life and provide the counseling and help I need to cope with the daily grind of life. As a 20-year retired Marine who participated in in major conflicts I experienced issues which, made it difficult to deal with life in the "real world". Coastal Counseling provided the counseling and tools one needs to deal with such life altering events. Having a standing appointment every week, I was able to seek sound counseling to discuss the issues of the day, without judgement, that taught me how to better cope with what I was/am going through. Every week, I leave Coastal Counseling feeling better about the situation I am dealing with and have a better understanding of ME and why I feel/think the way that I do. My Therapist works to keep me calm and takes the time, meeting me off-schedule, to ensure that my needs are addressed. Recently, in a highly crisis situation, my Therapist meet with me three times over a four-day period to ensure I had what was needed in order to deal with the situation I found myself in. Her calming advice, warm smile, and understanding was exactly what I needed. She kept me from spiraling into thinking about the weeks ahead and kept me focusing on "the now" while assisting me in how to cope with what I could only describe as a life-altering event. Knowing me, she has given me homework over the years as a continuation of our sessions. I gave them a 23 hour notice but they said their policy was a 24 hour notice and I got charged $80.. needless to say, I immediately stopped using their services. My experience with Jennifer Semmes, who is a service provider at Coastal Counseling, is that she is dishonest and unethical. She is contracted with my insurance provider (Cigna) and when my wife and I met with her, she stated that she would not submit the insurance claim because "its a pain dealing with insurance companies" but she could provide us with a "super bill" which we could submit to our insurance ourselves for reimbursement. Since I don't mind doing the admin work, we proceeded with the sessions. At the end of the month, we submitted the "super bill" and it was denied as it apparently needs to be submitted by Jennifer because she is CONTRACTED and should not be accepting payments directly from patients beyond their copay. Long story short, she is knowingly violating the terms of her contract, misinforming patients on medical billing, and is refusing to reimburse us and process the invoice the proper way via our insurance so we are out $600. For these reasons I believe she is dishonest, unethical and taking advantage of people and I would highly recommend anyone who is seeking treatment to look elsewhere. read more

I have had a lot of things happen to me health wise that have needed to be resolved for years. My doctor recommended I go to therapy and she recommended Anne at Coastal Counseling. The first day I had a session I was extremely nervous because of another experience with a couples therapist (not in this office). It was not beneficial and that therapist basically told me it was my job to fix myself for the marriage. Anne made me feel so comfortable from the start. She's the best thing that could happen for me at the time and has continued to be the only person I can confide in-in years. The office has loud air-like noise machines at every doors that anyone in the waiting room can't hear another person's conversation. I was not sure what to expect when i was searching for a therapist in my area, but like a lot of things in life, you just kind of know when it feels like the right fit. Jen from Coastal Counseling was immediately responsive and happy to answer all of my questions. Price was a bit of a concern for me as I hadn't hit my insurance deductible at that time, but Jen was able to work with me on a sliding scale price that was well within my comfort range, which allowed me to focus on therapy and not stress out about the cost. Since coming to costal counseling about 6 months ago I haven't been back or gone to any other therapists well knowing I need too and being because I was scolded and told not to take my medication before our sessions or at all ( by someone who doesn't work in prescribing medicine) which I need to take so I was very offended when Robyn told me if she didn't know if she could help me when I was talking my medicating for a fall down the stairs and a second time for passing out. I left crying because I reached out for help and was denied it. So I called on my way home and told them I would no longer be a patient. And like I said before in my previous review I was completely coherent and heard what she had to say and yes I was probably crying my eyes out telling her what happened but I was trying to talk to someone and get help for the horrible things that have happened yet I still have to find the courage to do so after I was made to feel like a bad person when I know in my heart she/ this group just has a personal problem with medication because the response I just read on my last review was just a nice was of saying you do you but don't come here. I wish I could have gotten some help/ not been too afraid to go anywhere else due to my anxiety and ptsd. Long story short if you don't want to be harassed about your medication that is prescribed to you I would keep looking. read more
