Horrible!! My family was looking for a new doctor after ours retired we decided to continue our 20 + years with the unity point clinics. All six of us had visited once and my husband twice. My visit was for refills and routine bloodwork to get my refills so no illness and nothing to diagnose. I was told i would get a call with the results in 2 to 3 days never happened i called after a week passed and was told they weren't allowed to call or mail my results they had to send to corporate first but i could come in and get a copy..?? Then i get the bill and i was charged 260.00 for a office call the total bill was almost 500 dollars total. Come to find out they ran unauthorized bloodwork, ran a test for something i was diagnosed with 5 yrs ago and then checked my cholestrol and several things that didnt involve the thyroid or the four hormones i requested. I went to my daughters appt with her so i could get some kind of explanation from dr hembrey his response was we talked about four or five things and then he takes the bill to the office mgr and they decide to lower it $52.00 dollars so i paid the bill before we left the office and i got two receipts showing payment. First they told me it was because i was a new patient and it clearly stated on the bill established patient(20 yrs)so they were confused and then told me i must have had a extensive procedure done???? Refills and two routine bloodtests?? My 29 yr old daughter had her appt with same dr and was with him longer and was only charged $121.00 for a office visit and she had given her insurance card filled out pages of paper work and paid her copay and they billed medicare and not her insurance company??? My husband went in with a work injury and dr hembrey was in with us about half hour writing work comp report on his laptop and did a physical exam. They charged 121.00 for a office visit to our personal insurance instead of work comp and lost all the information we gave them for billing and i had to fill out a new work comp report because they lost it and the second visit they again billed our personal insurance after giving them the billing info twice!!
Both my inlaws went in together(first time) to get flu shots mind you they both have the same insurance of course and they billed my father in laws to insurance and sent my mother in law a bill, their insurance pays 100% for flu shots.
I have tried to get this mess cleared up but they refuse to give me the credit of 52.00 and they have refused to file my husbands work comp and when asked they said that they did file and got no response . My husband had a rotor cuff tear and funny thing the hospital the surgeon the radiology office and unity point johnston etc had no problems billing out and getting paid and the kicker is the claim information was all in the unity point system.
Thanks to ashley and dawn at unity point johnston for trying to clear this up with the billing dept and faxing the documentation to them you both are awesome!!
Waukee unity point has since turned it over to collections. We have always paid our bills in the 20 yrs going through this medical system and all its changes and it took one visit to waukee unity point to sour it. Wish we would have gotten the heads up on this clinic so i hope i can save somebody a huge headache. read more
