My husband had a week long stay at this facility recently, I wanted to give kudos to this establishment. He stayed at another facility the same month so we had some comparison.. We found the staff at Watsonville Post Acute Care to be kind, cheerful and attentive. My husband got competent care, excellent PT and OT therapies. As a Kaiser Patient, we found the networking between the facility and assigned Kaiser Doctor challenging though. The one thing we were disappointed with was the food which wasn't very appetizing. I also found the Director of Nursing, his case manager and the rest of the administrative staff to be present and accessible. Overall, I think this facility was reasonably well run, had pleasant staff and the patients seemed to be happy and well cared for. read more

My grandfather stayed at this facility for a few weeks, and the level of care he received was heartbreaking. Staff failed to properly change and care for him, which led to him developing one of the worst bed sores I have ever seen. No patient, especially someone elderly and vulnerable, should ever be neglected like this. This place appears severely short-staffed, and the lack of proper attention and compassion showed every day. Families trust nursing facilities to provide basic dignity and medical care to their loved ones, and I feel that trust was completely broken here. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone of any age. My grandfather deserved better treatment in his final days. I hope this review encourages the facility to make serious changes so no other family has to experience this pain. May my grandfather rest in peace. read more

the paramedics of the city watsonville and the post acute center cover up a wrongful death that occurred thursday evening. when a man who was admitted just hours before started having a heart attack and was screaming for help for over fifteen minutes when no one came to his side. he died next to my brother who was a patient in the same room, number 13 station 3 the man should have never died like that. they let him die!!! and i'm calling sacramento nursing facility investigations read more

Awful! I checked in after open heart surgery at Dominican. The halls looked dirty. My room was dingy and dirty. The bed pan in the bathroom was dirty. This place reminded me of those run down places in some movie. The first night I felt some heart palpitations. I rang the bell for a nurse. Nobody showed up. I rang a second time. Same result. Then I grabbed my walker and tried to find a nurse. Apparently there are very few RNs there. There are people who work there. Whether or not they know the difference between the bell or the diaphragm on a stethoscope, I didn't have any confidence they did. I finally found a nurse who felt my pulse. She said it's irratic. So, I asked her what she was going to do about it? Is it Afib? She didn't know. I told her I was going to call 911 and have the paramedics take me back to Dominican (where they have real RNs, doctors with MD degrees, and every heart device you could imagine. And it's clean there.). I need to know if I'm going into Afib. That's the leading cause of stroke. And, I had gone into Afib once already at Dominican. When that happened at Dominican, the nurses came from everywhere to get me into a regular heart rhythm. Was that going to happen at Watsonville Post Acute? Hell, the only RN I saw there didn't have a stethoscope. What were they going to do? Call 911, I presume. But then you need to wait for the EMTs to arrive. AVOID this place. If you need to go over the hill or Monterey, do it. But, before you go anywhere, check them out beforehand. How many RNs? How many NPs (an RN with an advanced degree)? How often are the MDs on-site? How clean is it? What's the food like? What is the nurse turnover rate (new grads every 6 months means there's a 200% turnover rate!)? Ask questions! read more

Esmeralda, one of the nurses, stopped long enough to explain what was happening to our family member. She went above and beyond and we really appreciate her sweet bedside manner. We tried calling the center last week and no one answered. We called 2x. That was very disappointing. It seems as though the nurses and caretakers are very kind to the patients for the most part. read more

Patient Communication Have you ever played the "telephone" game? That is what it is like to communicate with anyone in this facility or your doctor. You have to push a non-interactive alert button (a light above your bedroom door) that ques a CNA to respond to your light (so 1930's). Your message is then passed up the line. If you wish information to reach your doctor, your message could be passed to as many as 4-5 people before reaching the doctor (personal experience). Worse yet, the original message can be very convoluted and incorrect. If you attempt to correct the information, the staff will attempt to quiet your input/correction. You are not provided anyone's email or phone number, this includes the business office, medical staff (including your doctor), to contact or follow up on your issues. When asking for this information, staff will either change the subject or laugh and walk away. These types of communication can put patients at risk by limiting or delaying medical services/care. read more

If you have a loved one here, please be vigilant. First the positive, it's very clean. Housekeeping department does a great job. Physical therapy department is adequate. My father was admitted here for rehab but was discharged in worse condition then when he was admitted due to poor nursing care. I wanted to wait awhile after my dad was home to post a review just to make sure. But he is actually doing better at home. I am sure the nursing department is under staffed (especially night shift) but that is no excuse for poor care. If you have a loved one here make sure you visit frequently and that the staff knows you are involved in their care. Make sure all belongings are listed or you will lose them. Make sure you call every day and speak to someone. Be vigilant, be present. read more

Each have their own experience, with everything! However, when hospice steps in and offers a "rest-pit" for your elderly loved one(s), you tend to resort to worry and wonder, even though you're assured that things will be just fine. I wish I were writing positive feeback, but unfortunately that isn't the case here. Our loved one was in Watsonville Post Acute's care for appox 5 days. Upon return, we noticed a very large sore on the bottom of our loved ones foot, walking/mobility had decreased, drastically and clothes were misplaced/lost and wearing another persons shirt. Now our family must reap the reprocussions. Again, this was our experience and unfortunately an unpleasant one to say the least. People entrust in such facilities to provide care and compassion, but when that appears to have not taken place, one begins to question the staff and managements motive and morale because rest assured, no one wants to come to the realization that your loved one(s) care and concern weren't a priority and likely just as the name would have it, acute! read more

I guess people write a review for very good or very bad experiences. My cousin just got out of this place and though he is in his 50s, the other patients there are much older. He felt uncomfortable, but the nurses were good, the therapy was good. They made him get up and exercise even when he was lazy and wanted to skip a physical therapy treatment, and this worked; he regained his ability to walk without a walker, and now we are having lunch. this is the first time I ever walk into a rehab place. My father just released from the hospital after lung infection, and became weak. We have been at his Watsonville post rehab place 5 days, and they are very good. therapy here is good, very attentive to detail. my father is going to go home sooner than expected. the bad. food could be better. but I guess if you have a heart problem, the don't add salt, so taste is compromised. but for the best I guess. read more
