Its more of an 'alternative' shoe shop, selling skate type shoes and other similar items. I like loads of the shoes in here, and have bought some on many occasions, they seem to stock different shoes than elsewhere, which is good as I like shops who look for something different to interest customers. The guys who run the shop are really friendly and as its a small shop, they don't have much trouble seeing to everyone quickly and efficiently. The prices are kind of on the high side, but i'm not one to complain about paying for quality.

i'm surprised no one has reviewed my fav shoe shop in york, and in my opinion one of the best shoe…read moreshops in york center! sales are fab for a bargain, the flora pom pom line they had on sale last year are now the most wanted on ebay! i brought a red pair myself, from office 2 years back! and wish i brought more. as they are a classic shoe! the store offers different lines for everyones taste in shoes. there platformed high heels, are exceptional as i always find there shoes to fit well, well balanced and most importantly well made! as in the heel tips dont wear down fast, leather used does not crack or flake 15th nov 08 update:- this is more about there internet ordering then the stores, but i thought it was well worth a mention, as the service is spot on! the cost per order is £3.95, though i'm not sure if there is a limit, but i got 1 pair of ankle boots 2 pairs of shoes and some gators for that very small postage fee, cheaper then the popular uk auction site! thought the order came in 2 visits by UPS, they where easy enough to track on line, so you have a good idea when they will arrive! its well worth looking through the site for sale bargains and some start from £5.00. as for returns there easy enought, return the items you don't want in 28days via recorded delivery or just drop them off at your nearest office store, with order sheets etc and they refund back to your account! and they foot the return postage this way. so if your an office shoe freak like me, visit the site before lookin on the other popular internet auction sites, looking for a shoe bargain, but remember the shoes or boxes might not be in pristine condition, if you have brought from the sale/clearence lines. but at least the returns are free if returning to the store, unlike the popular uk auction site, and its a no quibble returns, as long as you have not worn the shoes, of course! so you have to wait for your shoes, but you will save on parking, petrol and the shopping lunch costs that would have incurred on a normal shopping trip!

Prices are about as expected for good fashionable footwear and the styles are bang up to date! There are always plenty of staff and they are all helpful and know what they are doing if you get stuck. They always seem to have plenty of stock too but if they do run out of a size or style they are always quick to order them in for you or you could use their website. Great service, great shoes!

Yorks best department store as far as I'm concerned!…read more I don't know if it's just me but wondering around the store, I can't help but get the feel that this place is a little old fashioned and I think that that is part of it's charm. The staff on each department are extreemly attentive and are quick to ask if you need any assistance whilst browsing! something that I would usually find quite irritating, but not in Browns as the approach isn't hard sell, it's just good old fashioned customer service. The make up counters are fantastic, and if you're looking to re stock your make up bag, then have a word with one of the cosmetic assistance as they are fully trained and can advise you of which products are for you

its a small department store, been going for as long as i've lived in york (15yr) so it can't be…read moredoing that baddly. fashion wise not much of interest for me, i would say its more for the mature generation. but i like a wonder through, and its not bad during the sales. and layout of the store is easy to navigate through. and the aisles are not narrow and cramped. oh if your looking for bra extenders etc there underwear section has all usefull little gadets (clothing related) that you might not find in other fashion stores in center of york the beauty counters are good though and the sisley and clarins counters staff are always pleasent and ready to help and advise on products, they also have a lancome, dior chanel, clinique and elizabeth arden can find some of the counter staff a little snooty, but thats fine by me as i just take my hard earned cash else where!

She was friendly, knowledgable and up for a chat when I was drowning in a sea of shoes, opinions and general tiredness - nice work! I'm always impressed with the range of shoes on offer at Schuh and it's somewhere I've been buying from for 15 years. Nice work on consistently having a good range of cool trainers, formal shoes and general 'not needed' ones - they're nice looking and I know they're not needed but I still have to have them (my wife thinks I have a serious trainer buying problem... I just think I have a strong interest in them ;-) )

Also, it's a great place to fill the need after shoe blowout, which is what my fellow shopper was experiencing. One cannot survive in the York City center with just one and a half shoes. We each were close to Shambles (sorry, first time). So for a grand total £14, we got emergency shoes, and they were both cute. Not good quality, but priced right, nice enough looking, and the staff were very sweet.
