It is a huge park, that if you were to traverse the outer path you'll have walked 5Km doing that one circuit. It was named in honour of our queen Victoria herself. It stands proudly in East London, underneath the fine borough of hackney and above tower hamlets! It's my favourite park in London, if not the world! It's not particularly crazy in design or has architectural or agricultural delights or even much elevation, however it's just perfect. On a fine sunny day, the park screams community, relaxation and escapism from the bustle of the city. I run around the park 2-3 times a week and never get tired of it. It makes me breath fresh air and the people there are lovely! Please go to the park and treat it some respect as it will certainly treat you with a wonderful experience, right back at ya!

It was such a delightful discovery! I was so thrilled by this place and I still am. Very raw and natural, not as artificial as most parks in Central London. The pond covers quite a large area and I usually hire a boat for an hour which only cost £10 during summer time. Around the pond, there is a track for walking and cycling. There are full of animals and it's so nice to be part of this natural environment no words can described my liking for this place! A definite five star-er!

The general grassed area is not huge, as there's quite a lot else going on. There's a huge supervised adventure playground open each afternoon. It was closed due to an electrical problem when I was there, but look quite simply awesome. Acres of wooden climbing and walkways, areas to ride bikes, a model dragon Another large area is turned over to tarmac courts. That seemed less successful. They weren't being used, and dust devils were blowing across them. (I'm not kidding it was a hot dry day and they were dusty!) There's also a second play area with an attendant present when I was there, and toilets. I only noticed the sign saying they were for kids and parents using the play area after I'd used them. Whoops Anyway, worth knowing if you are desperate and need to be sneaky! For a small local park it's definitely way above average. Very nearly earned 5 stars, and I might give it that if they had loos for adults and improved the courts.

It's massive, and only walked through a minute part of it, but I liked what I saw, quite a hilly park and beautiful views. We walked past tennis court down to the bottom of Spring Hill along the river marina, where narrowboats were moored, and canoeist paddling along the river. In one of my walks around Shoreditch/Brick Lane area I stumbled upon this park with a playground for grown ups. I mean, SERIOUSLY? Me and my friend couldn't resist ,and we spent about 2h playing in all the games that were there. A lot of people come to have pic-nics, walk their dogs and play (like me!). The view is quite nice, and you can also watch the London Overground running above you. If you walk all the way till the end, you will face the Hackney City Farm's fence, and you can even see some animals hanging out. Something there is also very curious (but I don't have any information about) is the big house in the middle of the lawn - I'm not sure if someone still lives there, but from far away it looks a little haunted. This garden was for residents use only, but not so long ago, considering the development and growth of the area, it became public. I should have won you with "playground for grown ups", but if I still haven't convinced you this is a nice place, go check! :)

They have a little zoo, a pond with swans, a paddle pool, a little restaurant (that's now been done up), a wood chop running track, picnic areas and wide open grassy areas. They allow dogs, which is great for me. There are also nice little cafes across the road. If you looking for a park to escape the crowds and just to relax, come here

I love how even though I live in London I have access to this wide open space which feels like the countryside as some parts of it are quite overgrown. If you venture along further into the marshes you will find horses, little bridges and lots of exciting nooks and crannies which makes for a splendid and refreshing afternoon cycle. I would totally recommend Hackney Marshes if you want to get in touch with nature.

Further back in time it was the haunt of highwaymen when London was a smaller place and this was countryside. The centre of the park is an open grassland with what seems like hundreds of football pitches. In fact it's definite overkill as I've yet to see more that a couple of them in use! Oh well, if you fancy a game of footie, here's one place you can be sure of a pitch to yourself (unless there's some time they all get used that I don't know about!) It's also the site of a very nasty experience for me I was out for a run, and thought it would be nice to run out into and across all that lovely grass. So there I was, cruising along, clouds of dandelion clocks rising around me when I realised they weren't sweet fluffy dandelion seeds, but daddy long legs. And every step I made was raising clouds of hundreds of the things. They are like giant flying spiders. I had a hard time keeping calm on the way to the edge of the park! And even on the path it wasn't totally safe. Along the north side of the park the wind was blowing a steady supply across the path so I had to dodge them like some alien videogame come to life! I now avoid the park in the warmer months! All around the edge of the park there are paths and strips of woodland. The River Lee Navigation runs along the West side, and the River Lee itself along the East. I've seen woodpeckers and a kingfisher alongside the Lee. There are of course positives to having an environment free of pesticides! I suppose I really should be less scared of the bugs
