Enjoying the sun. What church is this?
Kirsty H.

A great park to enjoy the great weather. I hadn't realised I had lived near this bad boy of a park for a while now. Since we experienced two of the very few days of sun we get a year, I decided to venture out. This park is huge - but not as big as Finsbury Park, but I'd say a lot nicer. There are two ponds with plenty of wildlife including baby ducklings! I managed to find two cafes and also some enclosed fallow dear! There was also a butterfly dome but apparently this only opens in the summer. There is plenty of room for sunbathers and kids to have a kick about. There is also a decent sized park for the kiddies too. The two cafes are good, offering a wide range of cooked food and ice creams. This park is very close to Stoke Newington high street so maybe take a walk down there for a pint.

Deer at Clissold Park

This park makes me life worth living! No seriously, it's so nice to know I have this gem of natural delights (deer, goats, chickens) a mere minute or two outside my front door. I can't imagine ever living anywhere else, and Clissold Park is a big factor in that. The park itself is superb for jogging, picnics in the summer and a great detour en route to Stoke Newington from Highbury. I especially love the fact that no-one seems to have heard of it expect me, and that it's not full of tourists day in and day out :)

I love Clissold park. It is a perfect sized small park with ponds, deer-enclosure, rose garden, tennis courts, cafe and lots of friendly people. The park is very popular with everyone from the sports interested to dog-walkers and picnickers. There are many events held here throughout the year with Stoke-fest being the most popular. I love going there with my dog and always meet lots of nice people and dogs. Dogs are allowed off-lead in most of the park, but some areas have been fenced off so people can picnic in peace and leave their toddlers to run around without getting lost or knocked over by playing dogs. If you forget or run out of poo-bags they have free ones at the rangers office so there is no excuse for not picking it up.

A group of very well behaved dogs with their trainer... Taken September 2017.

I now live in New York, but grew up by Newington Green, and growing up my family and I would spend just about every Sunday afternoon at Clissold Park! So whenever I'm back, I always make time to visit the park, and last year while I was there I saw this amazing group of dogs with their trainer...she was so good with them, and it was plain to see that each and every one of them simply adored her!

Gillespie Park - Think this was the 'ecology cafe'?

Facilities: Gillespie Park isn't necessarily well equipped with much, if anything but the fascinating thing that they have dotted around the park are eccentricly metalic sculputes intertwined into 2 different styles and had around 3 if not 4 within sight. Unfortunately apart from that and an ecology centre located at the Arsenal side of the park, there isn't much else. Great For: Just because Gillespie Park doesn't have much to offer in regards to facilities, it does have some key elements that give it that much needed browny points which are: -The quickest route from Finsbury Park Station to Arsenal Station and when you have tried many routes, you know this to be true -A great place for anyone that wants to do some train spotting -A peaceful hidden away park (so it does tick the hidden oasis box) that in the summer I could forsee there being one or two sunbathers but nothing more -An ecology centre located near the Gillespie Road exit that I have seen some great reviews for **All in all this park although isn't packed with much, it still withstands some great features suited for the peaceful parker. I walk past an entrance to this park every day to get to Arsenal tube. Seeing as I've lived in this area now for over a year, a sunny Sunday walking back from Finsbury Park seemed the perfect opportunity to visit. We went via the Finsbury Park entrance, the northern tip of it. The first few minutes were... Underwhelming. Some graffiti, a bleak view of the train tracks and a few weeds were all I could see. Then, we came to a clearing and it started to become less 'abandoned alleyway' and more 'awesome green space'! Walking past the wind turbine, we were greeted with a blue ecology house with a cafe and two ponds nearby. The children in the park were having a delightful time spotting wildlife and running about through the small forest area. Other than about 20 people this oasis in the city is practically empty, so is well worth going if you want a few minutes of solitude amid London life.

They're doing a good job with clearly marked paths and with the first tentative shoots of spring coming through, it was a most agreeable walk I spied a board advrtising a series of free events and walks in the park The local citizens are lucky to have this park to enjoy

What else do I like about this park? - Being able to escape the hectic activities of our modern lives for a short while. It allows me to tune out the noises and concentrate on my inner self...for lack of a better word. In fact, when I was writing on my dissertation, this is where I'd find the tranquility and energy needed to sort-of pre-formulate and re-arrange my ideas. A note for dog walkers like myself: what I like about this park is that it's almost impossible for your dog to run away as the park is completely fenced in. This brings down my worry-scale a lot when my dog once again has disappeared in the bushes for a couple minutes...

Queens Wood has a few really nice amenities, such as the Queen's Wood Café with its miniature adventure playground and the organic community garden. But it's actually the more hidden features, that I like best about this North London green oasis: the swings. There are in fact two or three make-shift swings here, none of which seem to have officially been hung here. I love sitting on these swings and pretending I was 5 years old again. My only little pet-peeve about Queens Wood (and the reason I only give it four stars) is that it has a relatively busy street going right through it (Wood Lane/Causton Road), which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is not fenced off and so I have to pay closer attention to my dog when I'm walking her in this are. In Highgate Wood, for example, I can just let her roam around and because it is all fenced in, I don't have to worry about her running onto the streets.

Rather poor tables and chairs, everything in need of updating. Marvellous, varied, menu with a large range of mostly vegetarian meals and snacks. All well and good until I discovered that the food was much more expensive than I'd expected - the chick pea curry was nearly £7. They don't take credit or debit cards either so you'll need plenty of cash. They do themed children's parties too.
