You can't beat reading whilst leaning up against a beautiful tree

I love this park. It's located at the end of my road, just a few seconds walk from Finsbury Park tube/train station and the the sane distance from Manor House tube. Making it very accessible. There's plenty of space for sun bathing, playing sports and having picnics! I love to run in this park. The road inside the park creates a natural running route, which you can freshen up by following different paths that wind through the park, or by heading out to the disused railway track. There's plenty for everyone - outdoor gym, tennis courts, basketball courts, skate ramps, athletics track, a boating lake with lots of ducks and swans, children's playgrounds, a cafe, dog training groups, military fitness, tag rugby, drum playing groups, slack lining, and even a cute communal greenhouse area too. I love the community atmosphere and feel happy seeing an outside space in London used by so many different people. I've always felt safe running here, even at dusk. Lovely for summer sunshine and crisp autumnal strolls.

A great open space, Very popular with music events, had a lovely boating lake £6 for renting a boat. new re-vamped play area and cafe. A lovely day out for families. I take my children here and i was taken here as a child too. Many happy times and loads more to be had too.

Fantastic Park - So many different areas to explore! It's a hot spot for families but it's huge so even when it's busy you can still find a quiet spot. Everything you could want in a park - multiple kids play areas - tennis courts - picnic areas - boating lake - flower gardens - plenty of space for dogs to roam around - little cafe in the middle and plenty of pubs around the outside. Its also nicely maintained and I've always seen gardeners and staff mozeing around when I'm here. Great Park :)

A great park. Tennis courts aplenty. Park run every Saturday morning, with military fitness doing there own too. Not far from the tube of Manor House and of course their name sake. A lake, cafe. Holds major concerts and is connected to parkland walk as starting point. And perfect for walking though or home as in my case through it when sunny.

I'm not going to be any more specific about which bus stops I'm referring to than the ones under the railway bridge. This has to be the armpit of the world. I really can't think of a more depressing place to start your day, standing shoulder to shoulder with all the other poor sods waiting for a crowded bus which thank heavens never seems to take too long to come. It doesn't matter what time of year it is, what time of the day or night, or who your companion is if you're not alone- it's so lugubrious. I think even the pigeons that have begrudgingly made it there home (and delightfully send frequent reminders of their presence to the crowds below) are depressed. I assume its London transport that is responsible for the blue lights that run the length of the walls? Let me tell you TFL, it does nothing to lift the atmosphere. It looks dated and naff. I've gotta find another route to work.

    Autumn leaves in Finsbury Park.

Facilities: Gillespie Park isn't necessarily well equipped with much, if anything but the fascinating thing that they have dotted around the park are eccentricly metalic sculputes intertwined into 2 different styles and had around 3 if not 4 within sight. Unfortunately apart from that and an ecology centre located at the Arsenal side of the park, there isn't much else. Great For: Just because Gillespie Park doesn't have much to offer in regards to facilities, it does have some key elements that give it that much needed browny points which are: -The quickest route from Finsbury Park Station to Arsenal Station and when you have tried many routes, you know this to be true -A great place for anyone that wants to do some train spotting -A peaceful hidden away park (so it does tick the hidden oasis box) that in the summer I could forsee there being one or two sunbathers but nothing more -An ecology centre located near the Gillespie Road exit that I have seen some great reviews for **All in all this park although isn't packed with much, it still withstands some great features suited for the peaceful parker. I walk past an entrance to this park every day to get to Arsenal tube. Seeing as I've lived in this area now for over a year, a sunny Sunday walking back from Finsbury Park seemed the perfect opportunity to visit. We went via the Finsbury Park entrance, the northern tip of it. The first few minutes were... Underwhelming. Some graffiti, a bleak view of the train tracks and a few weeds were all I could see. Then, we came to a clearing and it started to become less 'abandoned alleyway' and more 'awesome green space'! Walking past the wind turbine, we were greeted with a blue ecology house with a cafe and two ponds nearby. The children in the park were having a delightful time spotting wildlife and running about through the small forest area. Other than about 20 people this oasis in the city is practically empty, so is well worth going if you want a few minutes of solitude amid London life.

What else do I like about this park? - Being able to escape the hectic activities of our modern lives for a short while. It allows me to tune out the noises and concentrate on my inner self...for lack of a better word. In fact, when I was writing on my dissertation, this is where I'd find the tranquility and energy needed to sort-of pre-formulate and re-arrange my ideas. A note for dog walkers like myself: what I like about this park is that it's almost impossible for your dog to run away as the park is completely fenced in. This brings down my worry-scale a lot when my dog once again has disappeared in the bushes for a couple minutes...

Queens Wood has a few really nice amenities, such as the Queen's Wood Café with its miniature adventure playground and the organic community garden. But it's actually the more hidden features, that I like best about this North London green oasis: the swings. There are in fact two or three make-shift swings here, none of which seem to have officially been hung here. I love sitting on these swings and pretending I was 5 years old again. My only little pet-peeve about Queens Wood (and the reason I only give it four stars) is that it has a relatively busy street going right through it (Wood Lane/Causton Road), which is not necessarily a bad thing, but it is not fenced off and so I have to pay closer attention to my dog when I'm walking her in this are. In Highgate Wood, for example, I can just let her roam around and because it is all fenced in, I don't have to worry about her running onto the streets.

But then I was the more surprised that the clientele here is actually very diverse: from the teens, who are posing in front of the mirrors in the locker rooms to show off their muscles, the bus drivers working out during their breaks, the house wives gathering in the morning to do engage in chit-chat on the cross trainers, and the grandma from next door who's the most enthusiastic participant in the tummy session... When you join with a yearly membership - which is really affordable - you get a package of personal training sessions, a gym towel, a T-shirt and a water bottle...all this is nothing fancy, but then again it kind of entices you to continue coming. Also, the trainers here are really great, I have to say. What's best about them is that they engage in ever-so-brief conversations with you; they ask you how you're coming along, or when you haven't been there for a while, they notice you coming back and congratulate you on that. This, I feel is great and it makes me feel as being part of some kind of community. Keep up doing the good work!

Its another beach style pool with a tiled island area - perfect for little ones getting to grips with jumping in the water. Much of this pool is really shallow. It has a reasonable wave machine - with a shelf you can sit on and get battered by the waves. Great fun when the kids were under 8 - we came here after school every 3 weeks over a couple of years (we use to alternate with Britannia in Hoxton and Waterfront in Woolwich) - but we have outgrown it . All the kids swim competitively now and the fun here is too tame for them (even with the youngest at 9). It has a really small swim around the island with no jets - just a waterfall that flows over your head as you swim by. A good shower jet for standing under that is powerful and always catches new visitors out as they desperately try to stop the jet removing their swimsuit. There is one slide which is great for first slide experiences....It snakes directly over the pool and is only half tube so if you go fast enough you get to splash the water over the top onto the pool below (and unsuspecting swimmers). Guess I spent too much time here. Main jacuzzi pool was always out of action and the small version was pretty poor. They do offer lane swimming if you want to train after public sessions - they stretch a few ropes across - so many better places to train, not sure why anyone would use this unless they lived next door.. We got to know most of the staff really well - slide was always open and on quiet nights we would get the waves to order. If you are looking to build water confidence in your toddlers or provide fun for under eights then this is great - otherwise travel there are better places about. Showers hit and miss, changing facilities basic and there is a gym. Never used it so cannot comment.
